Lillibet's christening

Lillibet was christened in California last Friday by the Archbishop. Meghan's mother was there. Charles, Camilla, William and Kate were invited, but neither Harry's father or brother attended.

Too true ! , wonder if it comes from the French ' mon petit Chou'
Which I supposed to be my little cabbage?
At least that's what I was taught at school 🤷‍♀️

Yes, I have read in several biographies that is the reference. Philip spent the early part of his growing up years in France and spoke fluent French.

jeffgoldblum · 08/03/2023 16:57

Ohh @SenecaFallsRedux , thanks for that , I wasn't sure and was just speculating! , didn't realise Phillip spoke French but should have guessed.
And the French I was taught at school wasn't necessarily the best example.

To those thinking it's awful the Royals didn't attend...

My BIL's DD is getting christened overseas and we've been invited (it's my DH's brother) along with DH and BIL's parents. The thing is, BIL has spent the last two years slagging us off to anyone who will listen and it's been a horrendous experience for everyone involved and very hurtful. He obviously feels aggrieved about aspects of his childhood but he says we weren't welcoming enough to his wife and also blamed our family dynamic for driving her to the edge of suicide. I accept to outsiders we may seem dysfunctional and it's fine if he wants a different life, but he just won't stop with the personal attacks. It's made family get togethers increasingly fraught and I've been personally singled out for making SIL feel comfortable and on one occasion making her cry. (This was during her wedding planning when I was three weeks' postpartum and my DD was bridesmaid and it was a misunderstanding about her dress that I did apologise for, with flowers, and thought was dealt with but they've both brought it up as an example of how awful she's been treated.)

Anyhow, we're all worn down by the constant drama. I'm pretty staggered they even want us at the christening given how much they seem to hate us and it's going to be tricky to go with work and having three children of school age. Am I BU in not wanting to go?

jeffgoldblum · 08/03/2023 17:29

@Inkpotlover 🤣, I see what you've done there! , very good.
Yanbu!

applejack18 · 08/03/2023 17:33

@Inkpotlover spot on!

I've recently had drama with my SIL and Bro, and I've realised they take offence at the drop of a hat and love being the victims because it's always all about them. In my mind I now refer to them as Prince and Princess Waaagh of Canada. Makes me feel better able to cope with their nonsense 😄

bloodyplanes · 08/03/2023 17:35

IF they did invite the King and Queen and Prince and Princess of Wales you can bet it was a last minute invite knowing full well that their diaries are booked out months in advance and they wouldn't be able to attend even if they wanted to ( highly unlikely). That way they get to play the victims yet again by saying that they did invite them but they didn't come. I hope they don't turn up for the coronation but I don't believe they will be able to pass up the opportunity to get her smug perma-grin and his constant scowl in the papers!

SnowdayYay · 08/03/2023 17:37

Unfortunate. Lets hope that Charles makes them center stage at the coronation and does everything he can to welcome and reassure them.

jeffgoldblum · 08/03/2023 17:40

I'm not sure but don't royal visits by the monarch to another country need some sort of approval?
I mean if the king was assassinated in the US wouldn't that cause some sort of diplomatic scandal?

DorritLittle · 08/03/2023 17:49

The royals will have received a non-invite.

Harry is daft to inflict a title on his ‘such a normal life’ kids - but his one-upmanship and lack of self-awareness makes it fairly unshocking.

walkersareback · 08/03/2023 17:52

Bekindbekind · 08/03/2023 13:08

Presumably they had to work, like most people.

Only when it suits them

margegunderson · 08/03/2023 17:54

Christening. Nobody cares.

queentim · 08/03/2023 18:06

I love my niece and nephew and I would not fly to another country for a 30 minute ceremony.

Hell I wouldn't even fly to the other end of my own country.

Zoom and videoconferencing have become extremely popular during the pandemic.

Howsimplywonderful · 08/03/2023 18:11

The rest of the RF have to be careful to attend parties where drugs might be offered.

Fernanfrank · 08/03/2023 18:24

You have a very vivid imagination OP. You should try joining a creative writing class or something.

purpledalmation · 08/03/2023 18:30

Ridiculous. It's just a christening.

magicthree · 08/03/2023 18:41

OutOfChocolate · 08/03/2023 15:35

So none of the family can be bothered going to Lillibets christening?
Maybe Harry and Meghan can not be bothered going to the coronation?

That result would probably make the RF jump for joy. If they were part of my family I wouldn't attend the christening even if I lived in the same town. They are an entitled pair of idiots.

upinaballoon · 08/03/2023 19:42

jeffgoldblum · 08/03/2023 16:24

Or Phillip really liked cabbage? 🤣

Philip's first language was French. Of course he knew about a little cabbage being a French term of endearment.

Riapia · 08/03/2023 19:45

Megs is the mother of a princess.
What title will she adopt?

FurAndFeathers · 08/03/2023 19:48

KingDog · 08/03/2023 14:17

God, the name is so cringe. I know it's been a while now and it's not the point of the thread but whenever I read it I cringe. She'll probably decide to go by lily or betty. What is it with rich celebs and wacko names?

It was the Queen’s preferred name

Charles is not bothered about his grandchildren. William said publicly he does not see much of William's children.
And William is constantly leaking to the press how much he hates his brother.
They were never going to go.

Source?

HedwigIsMyDemon · 08/03/2023 19:50

@Bekindbekind work???? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Nope. That definitely wasn’t it.

LindorDoubleChoc · 08/03/2023 19:57

I've been very unmoved by most of the "bad" or "ill-judged" things done by H&M. But appropriating his Grandmother's nickname for their daughter was the one that really turned me off them. It was cynical and tacky.

UrsulaPandress · 08/03/2023 20:12

I’m not sure about the logistics of the King rocking up at a small event in a foreign country.

I'm not surprised they didn't go to be honest they are despise Harry and Meghan, why would they go??

caringcarer · 08/03/2023 20:34

Yet another lie. Not an Archbishop as none in US church.
