Lillibet's christening

Lillibet was christened in California last Friday by the Archbishop. Meghan's mother was there. Charles, Camilla, William and Kate were invited, but neither Harry's father or brother attended.

A certain cohort of people were fascinated by Trump too, it’s like driving past a car crash really.

Heres a Quiz

one of them (trump/Meghan) claimed (in an Elle article) to have gotten a standing ovation at a UN speech led by Ban-Ki moon - can you guess which one it was ……..

answer Meghan

Meghan fantasy ‘standing ovation led by the head of the UN’ reality ‘polite applause while remaining seated’

The delusion is funny, and some posters on here wonder why we don’t believe her.

Perhaps you could get the child’s actual name right, for a start. No such person as Lillibet, or Megan for that matter.

Yes agreed and genuinely thank you for raising this. I really should do better and will from now on. I just checked on the RF website and it is Lilibet.

Lilibet was Elizabeth’s nickname from childhood, only used by her parents, and then much later by Philip.

It wasn't used only by her parents and Philip. It was used by her sister, her nieces and nephews (and their children), and by her cousins, including the ones on the Bowes-Lyon side of the family. She was also called Lilibet by various members of other royal families, including Queen Margrethe of Denmark and King Felipe of Spain. The younger ones used "Aunt Lilibet."

Oh yes, I just meant to explain that the name wasn’t invented for her by Philip. She had used it since she was a small child.

I do think that the intention announced at the time of Edward and Sophie's wedding that their children would be styled as children of an earl was a foreshadowing of Charles's intention at the time to issue new LPs when it was up to him. But events have intervened.

Nothing was said at the time that Edward's children would have a choice when they turned 18. That came from an off the cuff remark from Sophie.

It was nothing to do with Charles. The Wessexes married in 1999, when HMQ was in her early 70s, in full health and had not started to cede any duties to her heir.

I can't remember the wording of the announcement that their DC would use the Earldom not royal titles, but I'm not sure there was any need to spell out the underlying principle, which is (and always has been) that the parents choose for minors and adults choose for themselves

Letters Patent. The governing ones as to Archie and Lilibet were issued in 1917.

Thank you

SnowdayYay · 09/03/2023 10:56

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain which ones are you talking about?

Charles on his dad? Belittling, a bully? Or Charles's on mum, cold and distant?

Or William on dad or who?

It was reported at the time that this was done in consultation with Charles. And that Andrew was concerned about it because it held implications for his daughters.

jeffgoldblum · 09/03/2023 10:58

To be honest @Howsimplywonderful , I'm not particularly interested in any of them , I didn't see the wedding of w&k or H&M , didn't read articles or newspapers, thought the criticism of stomach touching and other such things were fairly negative.
What I can't stand are the lies and untruths, the complete lack of respect and constant complaints and digs .
No accountability whatsoever for correcting the untruths when it becomes obvious.
It's like watching a train crash in slow motion, horrifying but your unable to look away!

jay55 · 09/03/2023 10:59

I'd not say one word in Harry's earshot ever again.
Which would make me look very impolite at the baptism, so better to stay home.

At George's Christening, Meghan rebelled against the dress code. Everyone was asked to wear blue or cream. She wore olive and stands out like a sore thumb in the official photo. She can hardly expect the Royals to drop everything and fly all the way to California for a Christening.

Wasn't George born in 2013?

How did Meghan manage the incredible feat being invited to his christening before she even met Harry??

Serenster · 09/03/2023 11:08

Louis’ christening, I presume the PP meant. He was born 3 weeks before the Sussex’s wedding.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 09/03/2023 11:17

Oh I see.

But how do we know everyone was asked to wear blue or cream?

Just like Meghan, Mrs Middleton wore a dark colour to George's dunking, and looked different from the other women.

@jeffgoldblum

I just find it a mirror image of the whole Trump thing, which is quite fascinating.

Serenster · 09/03/2023 11:23

She’s wearing the same colour as six other people in that photo. I genuinely couldn’t pick her out at first! 🤣

Hooklander · 09/03/2023 11:28

@jeffgoldblum yes that Oprah interview is fascinating to look back on, especially Oprah’s big performative gasp and her dramatic exclamations as the narrative of supposed hideousness unfolds.

Even during the interview, Harry comes along and contradicts Meghan, but Oprah avoids ‘going there’. She’d got her big story on camera and wasn’t going to dilute it by checking facts.

And now, there are even more reasons to be cynical about that three-way interview. Many, many more reasons.

Mrs Middleton isn’t in a dark colour, is she? She’s in very pale blue, I think. I think Meghan looks fine in this. She doesn’t stand out and is in the muted earthy neutral colour of the carpet.

Howsimplywonderful · 09/03/2023 11:46

@jeffgoldblum

i agree stomach touching, avocados, all ridiculous, commenting on marriages and affairs - all frankly beneath us - on both s

But focusing on all of that means there is no time or energy to talk about the lying, complete distraction

MrsMaxDeWinter · 09/03/2023 11:49

@Serenster @Verylongtime

I am talking about her clothes at GEORGE'S Christening, further down, not at Louis's.

jeffgoldblum · 09/03/2023 11:50

You may be right @Howsimplywonderful , all a distraction from the obvious truth, neither would know the truth , even if it sashayed up and slapped them with a kipper!

Howsimplywonderful · 09/03/2023 11:52

What intelligent person cares what any of them wore to a christening 😀

drag yourselves out of loose women territory ladies before your brains permanently atrophy

You are so right. I am suitably chastised.

Sorry to have followed down that rabbit hole 😁

I’ve often wondered whether the claims about Elizabeth being a fluent French speaker are true… Languages need to be well used to keep them fluent and it’s very easy to lose fluency. Even if she did have a governess teaching her French from a young age, I doubt that equates to fluency in an adult who doesn’t speak or hear it often.

There are videos of her doing whole addresses at state banquets etc, as an adult, in French.

Serenster · 09/03/2023 11:58

Thank you for tagging me and shouting at me in the one post, MrsMaxDeWinter but clearly SO WAS I 😀

Obviously that was a mistype and I meant Louis. It must be so lovely never to make a mistake.

StormzyinaTCup · 09/03/2023 12:39

Louis christening photo always makes me smile, it's seems almost everyone got the 'blue' memo and almost everyone had no problem with this request (even Harry) with the exception of just one person😆. Did she not get the memo? did Harry not pass that info onto her? or did she just think 'F**k It I'm wearing Khaki'?😁

Once it was bought to everyone's attention, an equally amusing grasping piece was written in 'Hello' magazine:

Green is thought to be one of the most calming colours there are, while her exact shade – olive green – represents the traditional colour of peace. Green is also known to connote love and nurture, as well as a love of family and nature. As somebody who has recently joined the royal family, it could have been that Meghan was wishing to represent these qualities to bring positivity to Prince Louis' special day – which also happened to be her first royal baptism.

🤮🤮Some of us aren't stupid enough to buy that manure - really😂
