What happened to just call me Harry? Why would they want their children to be burdened with titles?

“When reached by PEOPLE, a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: "I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor."

It was the intimate nickname of the woman who was this country's longest reigning monarch, whose legacy is immortalised in the history books. It's use was personal to those who were closest to her. It should have never been used as a given name. To have done so is completely crass and beyond creepy in the circumstances.

I think pretending some special insight into 'intimate' nicknames and spitting out your tea in high dudgeon is actually quite stalkerish and downright creepy.

The late queen isn't related to you, I'm 99.999999999999999% certain. You don't have a horse in this race.

Deary me, if you needed a "horse in this race" to comment on anything related to the royals, these boards would be empty. What's your horse called?

If you knew anything about royal history, and the history of this particular royal, you would know that the name is an intimate one, originating from her own childhood difficulty pronouncing her own name, used only by her parents and grandparents and then her husband. It's therefore incredibly weird that Harry - who has completely trashed the way in which she had led the royal family during his lifetime - would use the name, let alone why Meghan would want to use it, given her complete contempt for the RF. I don't need to pretend insight (it's a matter of record) nor do I need to be related to her to have some empathy for QE2 being simultaneously attacked and having her nickname used by people who appear to hate her - or at least to hate her legacy. I'm not spitting out my tea. I'm thinking about how she must have felt. I feel nothing but sadness for an old lady whose whole life was devoted to doing, what she thought, was the right thing - and being faced with a pair of narcissistic, trolling liars using her pet name.

Wow reading all of this vitriol, one can understand why harry and Meghan left the country. They know none of you and are making bank either way.

Has their behaviour since they left escaped your notice?

They have brought this on themselves by their words and actions.

It's the height of hypocrisy to walk away not wanting to do the 'boring duties' that come with being a royal, wanting to be independent and then doing it by monetising his family - and then use titles for their children???

No wonder she has only her mother.

Wonder did she invite her dad... thought not.

I don't pull up the poster on Chuck either. Or those who used to say Liz. I already explained why.

There are those for whom Brenda was HM the Queen's name, Cheryl was Diana and Charles was Brian!

Howsimplywonderful · 08/03/2023 15:51

At least the Christening is a nice distraction from Harry’s Gabor interview, move the story along by issuing a press release about your daughters christening

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 08/03/2023 15:51

HufflePuffllePuff · 08/03/2023 14:40

Is the birth certificate published? She was born in the US so you'd have to access it from there if it is. Have you seen it? You don't 'register' a child's name during a christening. That's what the birth certificate is for.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if so she had been crassly registered on the birth certificate with Princess as a first name to make sure it's on there!

Let's face it both children's names are ridiculous for royal children - Lillibet and Archie. One a stolen nickname (obviously maliciously intended to show the Queen she didn't 'own' that name the same as the word 'royal') and the other sounds like a East End barrow boy. Was Archie registered as Archibald or just Archie does anyone know? If so why give him the name but not call him that?

In fact why does Rachel not use her first name? Has she ever talked about that?

They called him Archie because that was the name that Prince George had been taught to use to strangers or people outside the family , to help to hide his identity (potential kidnap risk). It came to light when he identified himself to someone he literally ran into near the Serpentine.

I found this difficult to believe at first, but as the parents produced endless rationales ( commanding officer, one of Meghan’s childhood pets) it became increasingly credible.

Zilla1 · 08/03/2023 15:53

Aren't all young ladies princesses with some groups (Cockneys, Essex residents and Royals) choosing to use the title explicitly?

vera99 · 08/03/2023 15:55

I think I have reached peak Mumsnet batshittery - Justine was right some posters re Meghan are simply deranged, shame I don't profit from it like she does though !

It's easy, as a human being and a man Harry loved his mum, his grand mum and now his wife all the rest seems to be spite and speculation.

jeffgoldblum · 08/03/2023 15:56

@Allthegoodnamesarechosen , is that really true?
I've only read it here , so assumed it was just supposition, not doubting you but is there actual proof? .

Says the deranged poster accusing a teenager (and later Allied war hero) of being a Nazi for attending his sister's funeral.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 08/03/2023 16:08

@jeffgoldblum

‘ Hello, I’m Archie’

the chap to whom it was said vouches for it. Then it got into the Press, was reported but not as a big deal. That was about eighteen months before Archie was born, so probably true, certainly not retrospective.

Presumably he doesn’t use it now.

jeffgoldblum · 08/03/2023 16:10

Ok @Allthegoodnamesarechosen thanks for that .

SnottyLottie · 08/03/2023 16:15

@jeffgoldblum not saying it’s true but it was definitely reported as being a thing

They'll be expecting people to bow and curtsey to their kids next. And I'm not even joking.

Rank hypocrisy at it's worst.
''We slag off and berate the RF but are desperate to cash in and merch and punt out our kids with their ''Tidles''.

Shameless.

jeffgoldblum · 08/03/2023 16:17

Thanks also @SnottyLottie , for the link !

shockthemonkey · 08/03/2023 16:18

adrianmolesmole · 08/03/2023 13:24

Harry and Meghan made their choices, but the children deserve to be recognised as members of the RF, because they are. It's their birthright and I'm sure the parents didn't want to take that away from them, and it's not their right to do so, no matter how they may have chosen to live. It's probably Harry's way of keeping the family connections for his children, whatever his own relationship with them may be.

I'm sure the children's mental health will be fine, growing up with (some) freedom and privacy, unlike Harry's experience.

I think it's pretty shitty that not one of the crap four made an effort to come, yet they expect Harry to jump when he's called for the big Corona thingy.

I'm not sure there's any evidence, at all, that Harry is expected to "jump when he's called for the big Corona thingy", as you call it, adrian.

On the contrary, there's every indication that it would be cause for relief all round were the H & M circus to decide to stay quietly at home.

Howsimplywonderful · 08/03/2023 16:18

And we are taking a break from our privacy tour to make this public announcement

PicturesOfDogs · 08/03/2023 16:19

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 08/03/2023 14:52

Kate Middleton eh? They mean HRH the Princess of Wales, presumably.

I clocked that too 😂

Love it, almost as good as the ‘service is universal’ statement and ‘no one owns the word royal’

Palace appears to have responded that website will be updated ‘now they’ve expressed a preference’

Rapid volley from BP, and ball back in Sussex court. 😂

jeffgoldblum · 08/03/2023 16:21

To be honest, I find it a tad hypocritical but I'm not really fussed , the titles mean nothing in America so it makes little difference.

Ridemeginger · 08/03/2023 16:23

I hope they afford the same curtesy to Thomas Markle. His life and achievements are part of their birthright too.

Prince Aldi and Princess Lidl Grin

RoseThornside · 08/03/2023 16:25

I thought Archie and Lilibet were possibly not going to be allowed to be titled Prince and Princess due to their grandmother being a woman of colour, as implied on Oprah? Was it overtly stated or just implied?

themessygarden · 08/03/2023 16:26

purpledalmation · 08/03/2023 14:31

Talking of dresses. Did anyone else think that white dress made her look like a tampon?

Totally unfair, she was post partum, she had just given birth a few months previously. 🙁

Some posters (we all know which ones)

Harry could piss on you and you'd still be like some sad fan

Fuck me

This is more than bloody deranged. You want them to disappear but yet you jump on and add to the thread

A couple of paragraphs in the news and there is another thread and they are still not irrelevant despite the number of poster saying they are it doesn't look like that's happening anytime soon.

Anyway.... I'm sure Princess Lillibet looked adorable and apparently Prince Archie was dancing with her.... cute 🥰

If it wasn't overtly stated, it was definitely very heavily implied!
