What do you think?

I'm not surprised. I wonder if Harry and Meghan will buy a new UK residence.

Why don't you all just say you hate her and would look for any reason to criticise her? That would be more honest.

Mumsnut · 02/03/2023 11:59

She did better in her acting career than 99% of aspiring Thespians, I would say.

I don't think she would have gone any higher without an astounding stroke of luck (and I'm sure many in the top rank have just been luckier, not necessarily better, than the ones who don't make it).

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 02/03/2023 11:56

Yawn.

I'd rather keep my dignity than simulate fellatio to entertain strangers.

You should be yawning with boredom at such hoary old misogyny that blames an actress for the role that was probably written and directed by a man. Or just the lazy reductive nature of taking a sex scene entirely out of context.

Luck certainly matters. Al Pacino credits his career with it. There are zillions of talented actors who never make it and it's not because they aren't any good.

But that doesn't make Meghan talentless, unsuccessful or a terrible person for taking the opportunities she had.

Its not black and white. I just don't ever see the need to berate a woman earning a living. End of. It's quite disgusting really to drag another woman down because of the job she is doing. She hasn't done anything to warrant this level of hatred.

Roussette · 02/03/2023 12:05

However, her acting skills are very poor by anyone's standards

How in god's name can you make over $2million in an acting job if your acting skills are very poor. That is just pathetic to say that.

Plitvice · 02/03/2023 12:07

You make the point that there are too many actresses willing to take any role to get ahead. It is a choice, especially for somebody with enough money to refuse it and still afford to live well.
A cossetted, "only child" of Lotto winner, "feminist since childhood" decided to do these roles rather than put on the spectacles and hideous wig and play the other type of role mentioned upthread. Fact.
That is fair enough but people are allowed to judge it.

ReneBumsWombats · 02/03/2023 12:08

Her skills aren't poor. I never watched Suits properly, but I've seen a few clips of her in it and she's absolutely fine. She's much better than Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, they must be the worst actors around at the moment.

I definitely don't hate her. I know the industry. I know she chose to take those parts. We aren't going to agree, obviously.

Two children? Okey dokey 🙄

Well of course people are allowed to judge it but that doesn't mean their judgement is good.

You're scrabbling around for absolutely anything you can think of to demonise her, including working for a living when you don't think the job is illustrious enough and even admit that if she didn't do it, someone else would. With a bit of "too many actresses willing to take any role to get ahead" thrown in, blaming women for the roles that are largely devised by men.

You're allowed to do that, but why should anyone respect it?

ThighMistress · 02/03/2023 12:11

I have no opinion on her acting skills, but she did well to get any work at all in such a ferociously-competitive world and Suits was a real achievement.

Her moving and shaking was, however, due to hobnobbing with that Marcus Anderson person and hanging out at Soho House and it’s satellites.

You think people in their 30s are children?

Roussette · 02/03/2023 12:14

I am very amused by this thread. Even when a woman makes it on her own in the cuthroat business of acting, she is maligned for about twenty different ridiculous reasons. What about how she got there! What about that 2 minute burger clip she did! What about this, what about that... It is pretty pathetic you know...

She could be anything, do anything, and the criticisms would just roll in... again and again and again... it doesn't half show posters up, it really does.

Plitvice · 02/03/2023 12:21

It is a non comparison. They were child actors chosen because they fitted the image dreamed up by the author as portrayed in her books. It was a unique situation which got them established. They probably wouldn't have made it without the Harry Potter franchise but once their foot was in the door, they became known names and that was that.

Meghan was raised on set in Hollywood which was better than any drama school training. Despite all that, she only achieved recognition through her marriages and friendships and side hustles.

And her dad's connections. I think she had a decent career many can only dream of, but the papers saying she was a global superstar is....a reach and a half.

AliceOlive · 02/03/2023 12:22

It’s really stupid. Suits was quite successful and had a big fan base.

But what difference does it even make? It’s a dumb criticism even if she hadn’t been successful.

I've had a vision of Andrew in a leotard doing downward-dog on a floating yoga floor.....
Fair put me off me lunch, it has

Roussette · 02/03/2023 12:24

Totally agree Aliceolive. What is the point? She made a lot of money from acting. She did reasonably well. She wasn't A list. She had a career. I just do not know what detractors are trying to prove?

You heard that, everyone? Radcliffe and Watson, two crap actors, got their success because they fitted the image. But that was a unique situation. Meghan Markle, whose fitting the image of various "hot chick" roles is a non comparison. They didn't do anything wrong but she totally did!

You couldn't make this crap up, I swear.

PreparationPreparationPrep · 02/03/2023 12:26

I wonder if QE was aware of the blow job scene.

I'm sure QE was enlightened long before Meghan. Didn't Ann and Camilla share Parker Bowles at one point. and then Charles description of how he wishes he was Camilla's tampon. Her own sister had a colourful life, drink, drugs and bisexual husband and affairs.

At least Meghan's was not her real life just acting. Not sure what excuse your RF could give

Plitvice · 02/03/2023 12:26

That is not a lot of money per working year of her career. The side hustles (Soho House earnings, working her way up socially) paid much more.

Like what? 🤔

I genuinely don't know - and unlike others on these threads, I am not prepared to speculate.
