My friend just sent me this. I adore Gabor mate and the work he does. His book 'in the realms of hungry ghosts' was life changing for me who had suffered serious addiction issues. But am I being too harsh to feel disappointed he's jumping on this band wagon of garbage. I'm sorry but Harry we're sick of listening to your trauma and no offence you've sung it to death, (and I don't even think it's that bad relative to how much he has gone on and on about it) and trauma aside you're a complete hypocrite with how you've treated you're family and the trauma you've put them through!!

@Starseeed I don't need to know what a psychologist describes as one's authentic self, I'm just sick of Harry using such phrases, then not being asked, or not explaining what his authentic self is. I know what mine is, but to me Harry is just parroting therapy speak without actually understanding what it is.

Meant to add as well that I think he manages to imply at the same time that people from “broken homes” join the armed forces because they have no other purpose in life and are maybe expendable. It’s really not very nice.

Facts do matter. A lot of posts on these threads are results of misrepresentations of what was said. People get upset at what was actually a misrepresentation and then start accusing, and being offended, when it was never said or done in the first place. Often the original misrepresentation was not an accident. It was deliberate to fire people up unnecessarily and upset them. It’s cruel.

Then there the projections into the future. I’ve seen some nasty predictions of what H&M and W&K lives are going to be in the future and it’s just nasty, mean spirited, made up bullshit. But some people seem to get off on doing this stuff. It excites them. Rip people down in order to feel clever and better about themselves.

Where do you think that line in the film came from? James Bond novels which are decades old and based on the author’s life experience. It’s a really old trope that the forces attract and give structure/discipline to lost young men who haven’t had a good family structure around them. There was an interesting podcast recently of a guy advocating for some sort of national service on this basis - there was a lot of sense in it.

Going to assume you’re genuinely asking. Your authentic self is your feelings - what you really feel. It’s very common to ostracise children and people in society for feeling/expressing their real feelings like anger particularly, and other so-called ‘negative’ feelings like disgust, fear etc. Which is why we get so much drama on MN/the internet about people venting their real (authentic) feelings - because they feel they can’t be honest about how they feel in real life. It also leads to outbursts of anger (aka your post) because pent up emotions tend to explode when there’s a small trigger. It’s emotionally damaging to suppress feelings and leads to all sorts of dysfunction and enmeshment etc, not to mention physical health problems, if parents don’t allow their children to have their real (authentic) feelings and instead shame, deny, ostracise or punish them for certain feelings. It’s actually a very common experience and I believe the reason some people can’t stand what Harry says and get so riled about it is because they’re deep down jealous that they don’t/won’t/feel they can’t speak their own real feelings in their own lives.

This is very interesting. Thank you. I think this sort of broadcast is far more useful than wall to wall repetitive news.

Yes, agree with pp it does feel like you’re slightly grieving when you hear Harry speak now 😞 He’s not the person we all thought he was. The fact you have to pay to hear his meeting doesn’t sit well either. Another money making transaction. It leaves a bad taste. They are a crass couple.

I would love to know how many so incensed on this thread have actually paid and listened to the Gabor Mate/Harry conversation. Not many I bet. It seems like posters are just grabbing on to the sensationalist bits reported.

It was just the same with the book. It was nowhere near as bad as some made out, these threads are like reviewing a book you haven't actually read. The more controversial parts were leaked, posters just jumped up and down going crazy about those bits and didn't put it in any sort of context by reading the book which was really not all like that which many positive reviews show. He speaks warmly about his family throughout. But that doesn't suit the narrative of how awful Harry is of course. We can't have anything positive can we?!

Yes, he says too much, yes he should button it at times, yes he has made some really stupid mistakes, but these threads are just thinking of new ways to insult either or both of them.
Some of the things I've read about Meghan, for instance, in the last few days are disgusting. About her mothering, how damaging she is to her two little children. How her DC will need therapy because of her and him, and how they will hate their parents. Just horrible.

And some of these posts just wrapped up as fake concern for the family. Concern, my arse... no one who writes endless insults actually cares.

(Disclaimer... there are posters out there who actually do care and don't throw endless insults about)

I suspect that there is a lot of projection going on here and it is this poster who is actually feeling ‘incensed’ and ‘jumping up and down going crazy’ in her increasingly futile task of defending the indefensible. It must be exhausting tying yourself in knots attempting to explain and justify his actions repeatedly - even when you your self acknowledge they are too much. I suggest that this poster is unconsciously cross and disappointed with PH.
