Their standing in the US is at an all-time low. US audiences seem to hold them in the same contempt as people in the UK

Are people in the UK able to see the whole episode? I've seen the bits posted on YT, but would love to see the whole episode. If anyone has a working link, I'd be most grateful. The South Park writing is absolute genius, but I think most of their material was written for them in this case.

Ohh yes @AliceOlive ! , my favourite is cartman as the police officer...., respect my authority! 🤣.
Snd the classic... ' screw you guys I'm going home!' .

I had a coworker that changed his computer sounds to Cartman sound bites. When he would shut it down for the day, it would say "Screw you guys, I'm going home!"

I watched it on paramount plus.

I'm an American. It thought the South Park episode was a classic send-up, perfectly in keeping with the show's satirical style. I think that most Americans see H&M as eccentric and mildly amusing celebrity B listers. I don't think it crosses over for most of us into anything stronger than that.

Ridemeginger · 17/02/2023 14:08

Super, thank you @ZeroFuchsGiven

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 17/02/2023 14:09

If I was getting lampooned in South Park I would be delighted! 😂

Serenster · 17/02/2023 14:10

I watched it on paramount plus.

It was on Comedy Central last night too.

Ridemeginger · 17/02/2023 14:19

Oh was it, @Serenster ? Thank you too!

Ridemeginger · 17/02/2023 14:22

It's on again tonight at 12.40, just lined it up to record. Thanks again!

Yes she wears some lovely clothes.

I'm not a fan of her messy hair but she has great style in casual clothes. She suits dresses without a waist and that dress looks fab on her.

jeffgoldblum · 17/02/2023 14:44

@AliceOlive , that's hilarious! , I used to do that back in the day, computers seemed easier to fiddle with then !
As I recall I changed mine to ghostbuster quotes!
My favourite was ' yes it's true , this man has no dick!' .
Couldn't do it now , don't have the know how and I need child friendly quotes.

Ha, ha, me too, way back in the 1990s. My sign off back in the day was the Monty Python Holy Grail French Knight - "I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper. I fart in your general direction. Your mother was a hamster and your father smelt of elderberries."

jeffgoldblum · 17/02/2023 15:17

🤣 @Ridemeginger I fart in your general direction, was a popular one in my house too! , love Monty python!
' come back and fight , it's only a flesh wound!' .
Yes was early 90s when I felt confident to tinker with my computer, changed themes and sounds all sorts . And my first internet thingy was AOL on cd you loaded , still remember ' you've got Mail' .
I'm so sad I bought that in the tone store for my iPhone, so I can re live the experience when I get emails ! 😳

The South Park creators are geniuses. This is absolutely spot on, and hilarious.

Yes we can. It’s on catch up on certain platforms. I am watching it that way.

For the benefit of those people who don’t watch South Park, it is a long-running US cartoon show (but most definitely aimed at adults) which covers the activities of primary school children in the town of South Park in Colorado. It is famed for both its profanity and dark humour, often sexual (the very first episode was titled “Kenny gets an Anal Probe”!), and its satire of various people and topics.

The Meghan and Harry episode, heavily based as it is on their recent activities and the publication of Spare, is clearly satirising them. South Park has famously done similar episodes in relation to Tom Cruise and Scientology (he hides in a closet and refuses to come out 🤣) and other celebrities.

The “Prince William rips Kate’s arm off at the altar and sticks it up his backside” excerpt that keeps being posted however is clearly just an example of the show’s pretty normal use of silly violence and sexual humour for shock value. It’s clearly not satire, as there was in 2011 absolutely no context for that act (as there is now due to Sussex fans’ love of pushing related hashtags on twitter - which actually makes me ponder if the South Park episode maybe wasn’t a catalyst for that rumour? It’s a curious coincidence…). And I think most celebrities have been the target of similar scenes in the show’s 15 year-plus run. If this episode gets high ratings, I would bet my bottom dollar they’ll feature the royal family again around the time of the coronation.

(I do from time to time watch South Park, and have for many years. It is sometimes very funny. I think that its creator’s best works were however The Book of Mormon and Team America: World Police, which my husband and I still quote to each other all the time 🤣 ).

Thank you. I've heard of South Park but have never watched so I appreciate your summary.

Doris86 · 17/02/2023 17:43

On again on Comedy Central at midnight, if anyone wants to set their recorder.

feellikeanalien · 17/02/2023 17:56

Maybe Meghan and Harry are pleased that they are important enough to be lampooned on South Park.😁

Perhaps those famous words of Mandy Cohen should be heeded by the Harry fans!!

jeffgoldblum · 17/02/2023 18:35

@Ridemeginger 🤣🤣
' he's not the messiah, he's very naughty boy!'
I loved that his name was Brian too! Classic!

notanotheroneagain · 17/02/2023 12:47

Oh, it's been turned into a mouth now?

So what was empty? She did not eat anything? What's the joke again ?

The joke is;
Harry says "It's what's inside that counts".
Meghan just stands there.
Harry "Isn't it darling? I know you agree with me, it's what's inside that counts."
Meghan doesn't answer, so Harry opens her mouth, looks inside and she's completely empty inside. He shouts "Hello" into the void, and it echoes.

So the joke is that Harry thinks it's what's inside that's important, but Meghan has nothing inside.

notanotheroneagain · 17/02/2023 18:40

Serenster · 17/02/2023 12:55

The joke was that “The Prince of Canada” had a revelation that branding yourself with attributes to make yourself popular was less important than what was on the inside of yourself. And then discovered that his wife was in fact empty on the inside, all she actually had was her brand.

(The Canadian Prince bit is relevant because on South Park all Canadians are depicted as having detached heads from their mouths up, unlike the Americans who are drawn with normal heads. It’s a running joke).

Since when does anyone ever look at someone's mouth to see that they are an empty shell?
Even previous posters saw this as opening her head and finding nothing - an airhead. That is what they presented it as.

Have heard of someone looking into your eyes for what is inside, never in your mouth. Ever.

What a ridiculous excuse !

SirChenjins · 17/02/2023 18:44

Oh ffs - it’s a cartoon, it’s not meant to be taken literally. He does not literally search her mouth to see what’s inside, he does not literally decapitate her and they aren’t literally going on a world tour.

StormzyinaTCup · 17/02/2023 18:49

I thought it was funny (I've seen other episodes over the years that have also been amusing) they had this one completely nailed.😁

You are also funny @notanotheroneagain 😆
