Their standing in the US is at an all-time low. US audiences seem to hold them in the same contempt as people in the UK

I really doubt that they've consulted with lawyers. I sometimes think these rumours come from journalists getting together and one makes something up so then the others can legitimately report "they heard from a source".

wishingyouwell · 20/02/2023 14:16

William's indiscretions were well known way before he got married and whilst he was dating Kate. It was a price she was and is prepared to pay to wear a tiara.
SP were well aware as are most clued on people now.

Absolute rubbish about H and M suing. More Murdoch lies.

sydneysunset · 20/02/2023 14:20

@wishingyouwell

bit rich to talk about ‘lies’!

Ooo, interesting. What were all those indiscretions? Do tell.

Did anyone else see the clip of W and C at the Bafta's last night? If they're not happily married then C is the best actress that's ever married a member of the royal family.

Sorry, @wishingyouwell , I don’t know the difference between Murdoch Lies and Your Truths… Confused

It means use whatever you can to further your own argument / battle

Perfect example of what @Novella4 was suggesting.

@TrashyPanda

"Americans have standards, just like the rest of the world.
suggesting otherwise is discriminatory."

Yes we do. They are just not what the British people think they should be because they are not British standards. Being depicted on South Park means you have arrived in the US so to speak. I am not sure how you can conflate discrimination to standards though. Seems a stretch.

onlylarkin · 20/02/2023 17:11

Here is what is hilarious about this entire topic from an outsiders perspective.

Other than being in the background in a photo at a private event, no one has seen or heard from Harry nor Meghan in 6 weeks.

All anyone in the UK has to do to stop the "onslaught" of Harry & Meghan is stop reading articles on the internet and stop buying the papers.

The only reason anyone in the UK is still reading endlessly about them is because you want to. It is published because it sells. It sells because people WANT to read it.

I noticed not a single negative post about them holding hands on the red carpet. Apparently, it is fine when they do it in public.

Catherine looked amazing though and I really liked William's suit jacket. I do like how she reworked that dress and added the gloves.

mixedrecycling · 20/02/2023 17:15

I don't know how much has been published, the sources I read haven't had anything. The only 'coverage' I have seen are these MN threads, and they have died down after the flurry of interest caused by the publication of the book.

But there is a minor event called a 'coronation' coming up, so there's speculation about whether H will attend, plus of course Sasha Walpole has been pushed into giving her side of the story. The ripples do continue even when no more stones are being thrown by H&M.

onlylarkin · 20/02/2023 17:34

It is not H & M's fault that people in the UK are focusing more on if they will attend vs. the very important event itself though. I feel like the excitement about Coronation of the King would overshadow everything else.

It proves my point that people are still reading and talking about H & M because they want to.

mixedrecycling · 20/02/2023 17:38

Stories are driven by conflict 😂H&M are wonderful soap opera characters

They didn’t hold hands on the red carpet last night though. Would be quite odd indeed for someone to post negatively about something that didn’t happen.

onlylarkin · 20/02/2023 17:57

That's right. He didn't hold her hand. She just tried to hold his?

"Prince William, Kate show rare royal PDA on 2023 BAFTA red carpet"

I could care less either way to be honest, because I do not think holding hands in public is a huge deal.

Yes, I notice that the title of the article really has nothing to do with the article, which apparently is about their clothing. But it is interesting to see the press make anything that looks like PDA with William and Kate a good thing. If that were Harry and Meghan, the press would be tearing them apart for leaning to close.

It is a double standard on the part of the press.

AliceOlive · 20/02/2023 18:04

ABC news?

jeffgoldblum · 20/02/2023 18:11

I've just clicked that link and read the article, apparently at one point Kate tapped him affectionately! , hardly a pda and no holding or attempt at holding hands was mentioned or pictured !
Not that I care if either couple wish to hold hands in public personally.

I think it depends on where the hand holding takes place though. It’s one thing to hold hands at the BAFTAs or a film premiere, it’s quite different to do it at a solemn state occasion like a funeral vigil or a remembrance service in church. (The Tindalls are guilty of that too)

BeatricePortinari · 20/02/2023 18:22

Couple occasionally hold hands is not worthy of comment.
(And they didn't last night anyway)

Couple who cling together as if inseparable on every occasion is comment worthy as it's unusual for public figures...and anyone.

I thought the gloves with the dress were awful. Looked like she had robot arms.

onlylarkin · 20/02/2023 18:25

Yep, totally tacky. For M & H to do. But not anyone else.

Not sure who criticized it but I find it extremely odd to criticize people at a funeral for showing support and affection for one another.

Harry & Meghan are no longer working royals. So it’s weird enough if you think none of the royals should ever hold hands in public. Or that should not because they were all “on the clock” for the funeral. But Harry and Meghan resigned, so especially odd and controlling to think they have to adhere to kind of protocol.

It feels like the people who would criticize them must think “you work for us so you have to behave as we wish, even at your Grandmother’s funeral”. And I think that’s what they left to avoid

onlylarkin · 20/02/2023 18:35

Everyone criticized them. While also failing to notice that the leaders of 3 other countries did the same thing. At the same funeral service.
