Their standing in the US is at an all-time low. US audiences seem to hold them in the same contempt as people in the UK

Gosh, looks like I did write that! @jeffgoldblum

So what’s wrong with it?

I put it through grammarly and it came out fine.

Nice Work!

Might be because I’m American. Or maybe Grammarly doesn’t work.

If it’s wrong, it’s the least of my faults.

@PreparationPreparationPrep

One thing I see often here is someone will say to another poster like “But you continue to do this…”

I don’t know if you are confusing me with someone else but no, I personally have not “continued” to say it was current affairs.

I cannot speak for others and I will not take the blame for everyone on the planet who has been unfair or unreasonable or hateful in some way toward them.

If you feel all criticism equals bullying then you probably aren’t going to want to read anything I write. I’m going to express my opinion and it won’t always be positive. Some people are going to criticize me for my posts and grammar check them, too and that’s also not bullying.

But if someone could explain what an “utter bampot” is I’d appreciate it because I just ordered a tshirt with that on it after someone said I was one. It’s like a sexpot, right? 😂

PreparationPreparationPrep · 19/02/2023 01:20

Apologies yes I agree My wording / grammar is not great. I say you instead of they and should be more specific at times. But my posts usually refer to a pattern which you are right does not always mean you as an I individual poster.

🤣🤣 oh that is funny! It's more of a made up word but I think it means something more like nutcase. I'm not sure if you can still wear the t-shirt or pass it on.

AliceOlive · 19/02/2023 01:37

I didn’t really get a shirt but I think it would be damn funny. I had not heard the term but in context knew it was some form of calling me crazy. 😁

MissTrip82 · 19/02/2023 01:40

Didn’t know this show was still made.

It must have changed a very great deal over the years since I last saw it if so many mumsnetters now find it insightful satire.

Mumskisail · 19/02/2023 04:18

The Harry and Meghan episode was spot on, absolutely brilliant writing. My American friends say they're definitely B list and that Americans look badly on the way they've trashed their own family for money.

pilates · 19/02/2023 07:25

I heard there may be an episode 2 of SP as it went down so well over the world?

TrashyPanda · 19/02/2023 08:31

IcedPurple · 18/02/2023 21:01

I think Meghan brought out the very worst in Harry, but his faults are his alone. He's an adult, chronologically speaking at least. That deeply unpleasant side of his personality was there all along. It had just been well hidden from public view.

Ironically, the public had a much more positive view of Harry when the dreaded 'palace' was doing his PR. Far from being 'fed to the wolves', he was being protected and cossetted. Now that he's on his own, he is being seen for what he really is. And his popularity levels are plumetting as a result.

Totally agree.

now we are seeing Harry in his true colours, and just how unpleasant he is. He has been exposed by his own words. Which is pretty damn funny,

the Internet is full of memes, all laughing at him and the South Park episode just adds to this.

renaming his petulant diatribe “Waaaagh” is perfect.

ThighMistress · 19/02/2023 09:01

I do heartily agree that Harry has completely missed the fact that Palace PR made him look like a thoroughly good egg.

Harry in the raw appears to be a spoilt brat and a not very intelligent man.

I don’t “hate” M&H in the least. They provide entertainment and where would the sales of Spare be if no one were interested in them? And if the book hadn’t included dog bowls, todgers and other “private” titbits?

pilates · 19/02/2023 09:15

Yes I think without the royal protection, Harry’s true colours are coming out. Very unpleasant character.

Gilmorehill · 19/02/2023 09:47

AliceOlive · 18/02/2023 20:24

The BBC Science Focus article? Not much to it really. It didn’t say quite what that little excerpt was suggesting.

I remember the press releases, too. I was really shocked at how poorly they were handling things. The “service is universal” comment had to come from Meghan. I don’t think Harry would have ever spoken to his grandmother that way.

It was an incredibly disrespectful remark. I’d also forgotten about the attempt to monetise Sussex royal.

Bampot is a very popular Scottish term for being a nutcase.

CPL593H · 19/02/2023 09:58

I think people outraged by Southpark lampooning H and M should have a look at the cartoons of James Gillray (and others) of George III and IV and the Court. Merciless and very, very popular.

wishingyouwell · 19/02/2023 10:00

Actually, Harry comes across very well in 'Spare' and seems a thoughtful and interesting young man.
He speaks some very inconvenient truths so those who wish to continue to hide the truth will continue to undermine him. Some have lapped up the Daily Mail/Murdoch spin, as intended. They rely on the ignorance and inability of their readership to question their agenda and think for themselves.

Is there more than one episode?

I am going by the posts and assumed it stretched to more than one episode but I have never watched SP and wouldn't watch it just because it is a MN hot topic and they are taking the piss out of H&M this week. ^^ I have heard of the programme but it has never appealed to me and the reference to William and Kate being on there I didn't watch that either.

Why engage with people you think are vile?

because there has been bullying H&M for as long as I've been engaged on the topic and I haven't seen anything different since. It is very mean girl style and they have an excuse every time. They even managed to drag Meghan's name onto the Nicola Bulley thread.
They remind me of playground bully girls and a couple even tried to allude that it was a highbrow debate - one poster often aligns their credentials to the anti topic of the time but has been accused of copying and pasting from Wikipedia. I don't know how true it is - if the constant bullying was at anyone else without cause I would do the same - but it isn't it is deranged and mean spirited but you continue to call it current affairs -

There was a thread asking where Meghan was? Because posters had woken up to the fact that they didn't have anything new to so because they didn't know - they made up all sorts of ludicrous claims about them ,I'm sure you saw it_. Not started by the supporters but the anti brigade, I mean what excuse can you have for that?

You have Royalists who are obsessed and have taken H&M as personally offending them so would go as far as standing up for RF members like LM and Andrew than concede that they are as dodgy as f**k. Because they have not even been charged with an offence. What offence were M&H charged with?

Do you know who sounds obsessed and over-invested. YOU.
When you get to the point where you can write an essay on the fact that internet strangers don't agree with you on a single topic then I think you need to step back for your own sanity.
As for quoting from Wiki, I have no idea who did it but I cannot see how it would ever be relevant to these discussions about vapid celebrity culture.

purpledalmation · 19/02/2023 10:17

I think the South Park episode was quite kind to Harry and very accurately portrayed Meghan as a vacuous narcissist. In reality Harry is in fact just as bad as her. A spoilt, entitled petulant child man

As pointed out, criticism doesn't equal bullying. Nobody made these two people expose their faults so clearly to the world. Their actions have been of their own doing, and therefore they've opened themselves up to all this ridicule. It does show the RF's tight control on personal information and stories, even if it means doing deals with the media to give stories they want (royal mums on the steps of the hospital with a newborn) is the right one. I don't believe for one minute the RF feed the media negative news stories (as Harry says) because it makes no sense to denigrate members of the family, especially a new valuable member.

wishingyouwell · 19/02/2023 10:21

He is thriving actually. Much better off. Another inconvenient truth some would rather not acknowledge.

There is nothing unpleasant about speaking up against oppressive behaviour, whoever is the perpetrator. Silence is complicity and abuse thrives and multiplies within the 'safety' of silence.

He should have done this years ago especially in relation to the disgraceful British media. He could have said a lot more, I thought him quite gracious.

jeffgoldblum · 19/02/2023 10:26

@AliceOlive , apologies I was in bed, and with the time difference I'm assuming you're in bed now! .
I don't know what's wrong with that post , it actually looked ok to me! ( it's been years since I was taught English at school) .
I was simply pointing out to that poster that you had quoted someone else.
They were saying, I believe that obsessed with hate , was incorrect syntax.
Your gramma was fine as far as I can see!

karamazing · 19/02/2023 10:27

"thriving" as in professional victimhood, drowning in drugs, fake philanthropy, selling his family for more and more money to satisfy greed.

SirChenjins · 19/02/2023 10:27

As has been said many, many times on MN and elsewhere there’s speaking up against what you perceive to be oppressive behaviour, and there’s over sharing incredibly personal details which the world really doesn’t need to hear over their cornflakes and which makes you look like a whiny prize idiot. Harry chose the latter, unfortunately.

Gilmorehill · 19/02/2023 10:46

H isn’t thriving. He’s a global joke.

LoekMa · 19/02/2023 11:09

Gilmorehill · 19/02/2023 10:46

H isn’t thriving. He’s a global joke.

Yes.because what you and your kind says is real, is the global truth.

😂seethe

SirChenjins · 19/02/2023 11:23

He’s certainly given the world a lot to laugh at, courtesy of his own words in Spare/Waagh

Gilmorehill · 19/02/2023 11:35

On one hand the Jimmy Kimmel jokes, South Park etc are funny and it’s good to have a reason to laugh these days. On the other, he has tarnished the reputation of the royal family. I’m glad HMQ wasn’t alive to see this.
