Their standing in the US is at an all-time low. US audiences seem to hold them in the same contempt as people in the UK

The BBC Science Focus article? Not much to it really. It didn’t say quite what that little excerpt was suggesting.

I remember the press releases, too. I was really shocked at how poorly they were handling things. The “service is universal” comment had to come from Meghan. I don’t think Harry would have ever spoken to his grandmother that way.

jeffgoldblum · 18/02/2023 20:33

Normally in the past I would agree @AliceOlive , but since his book I'm not so sure ? , he's says things that are terribly disrespectful to his so called beloved grandmother! , I'm inclined to believe it's all pomposity from him!

jeffgoldblum · 18/02/2023 20:34

Not saying Meghan is not responsible somewhere but on this 🤷‍♀️.

karamazing · 18/02/2023 20:41

I agree with Alice. It has all come about because of the all-consuming ego needs of one person who has him by the cojones. None of it was a problem in the past and wouldn't have become one. It's slash and burn all the way as long as it feeds the hungry money monster.

Find a more fulfilling and meaningful activity to fulfil your days, months and remaining years than obsessing over a happily, married couple whose lives you could never emulate.

This genuinely made me laugh. My life is very fulfilling, thank you very much! Harry and Meghan actually crashed my long-standing interest in the British Royal family (I’m a history buff! Always have been..) and not the other way around. And given I have quite a lot of experience in the arenas in which they are active, I have continued to watch, read, and enjoy fact-checking some of the ludicrous things said on these boards.

I couldn’t give a monkey what you or anyone else thinks of me or my credentials, I am perfectly confident in myself and my many achievements, thank you very much.🤣

jeffgoldblum · 18/02/2023 20:50

I'm not saying your both wrong, however the things he wrote in that book were shocking, no sense of shame , actually confirming some of the gossip about Meghan , displaying his lack of empathy for anyone else privacy or mental health , insulting and embarrassing tales! .
I'm amazed, he's proven he's a boorish misogynist of the highest order and a liar to boot! .

Ohnonevermind · 18/02/2023 20:54

i quite enjoyed the episode, they are clever writers.

We all know people like Meghan and Harry.

They're the ones who just have to get the last word, no matter how petty the discussion might be. Usually, that doesn't make the person look like they've 'won', rather it shows them up as brittle and insecure. Which is fitting here.

I see where you are coming from. Whatever the case, it didn’t come across well.

I think Meghan brought out the very worst in Harry, but his faults are his alone. He's an adult, chronologically speaking at least. That deeply unpleasant side of his personality was there all along. It had just been well hidden from public view.

Ironically, the public had a much more positive view of Harry when the dreaded 'palace' was doing his PR. Far from being 'fed to the wolves', he was being protected and cossetted. Now that he's on his own, he is being seen for what he really is. And his popularity levels are plumetting as a result.

Ridemeginger · 18/02/2023 21:01

@Ohnonevermind I think you posted something up thread about "Castle" and a nephew. Just wondering what that's all about (if you don't mind elaborating - and sorry if it wan't you!).

jeffgoldblum · 18/02/2023 21:08

@IcedPurple , exactly, we all believed the image presented to us about Harry, excused his failings , now the mask is no longer there to hide the real man!

It makes you wonder what the rest of them are like (Andrew excluded as he has already had a go at showing us, in his own words).
Perhaps the survival of the monarchy is entirely down to great PR.

Yes, the “Sussex Royal” interlude must not be mentioned ….

Sounds like a variety of potato !

ChewtonRoad · 18/02/2023 22:00

South Park can be tasteless, violent, unpleasant, and often pushes boundaries far past what's usually seen on television. It is also funny as hell as it often does little more than hold up a mirror to society and make that reflection known.

As I'm not a 15 year old boy I know how to discriminate between the show itself and to think about what made the creators write the script as they did.

I don't think the Sussexes are terrible people - I think they've lost their way a bit. At the same time I thought the show was hilarious as it was fantastically OTT.

Kudos to Parker and Stone as well for "Trapped in the Closet", "Fat Butt and Pancake Head", and "Board Girls".

'Find a more fulfilling and meaningful activity to fulfil your days, months and remaining years'.

Grin says the poster with a 97% posting on H&M thread ratio.

@ThighMistress Yes, let's believe the Daily Mail and Murdoch's press and remain completely ignorant and brainwashed.

I read neither. I form my opinions on the couple from personal interviews they give and their TV reality show.

I think the rest of the royals have the sense to know that royals are best seen and not heard.

Most of them at any rate.

I would rather be an uncritical fan than be obsessed with hate.

Uncritical fan vs. obsessed with hate. This is very black and white thinking.

Do you think the creators of South Park are obsessed with hate for them?

B&W thinking - have you reread some of your posts? South Park on H&M is a couple of episodes - if they were releasing unkind episodes every day specific to H&M - similar to yourselves on MN and tabloids such as the DF then maybe I would. I would also say they are earning a great deal from what they do - what's your excuse?

PreparationPreparationPrep · 18/02/2023 23:50

jeffgoldblum · 18/02/2023 16:16

@AliceOlive was quoting another poster, not her syntax error.

"Obsessed with hate" vs "obsessed with hate for them"

AliceOlive · 18/02/2023 23:57

Is there more than one episode?

I don’t thinking earning money is a great excuse to portray people that way if it’s completely untrue. It’s obviously exaggerated and satirized. But it wouldn’t be entertaining to people if they didn’t “get it”.

I have not said anything horrible about either of them. It’s obvious some H&M fans have a different standard for what they consider horrible when it comes to H&M though.*

I occasionally enjoy the discussion. It’s a current topic now due to Spare, Harry’s interviews, and now South Park. Does one need an “excuse” to discuss current affairs? I’m also fascinated more by the people who engage here (pro, con, indifferent, rational, irrational, etc) than I am by H&M. I almost never seek out any info about them unless it’s mentioned here or shoved in my face on the news.

You? Why engage with people you think are vile?

*see additional post

AliceOlive · 19/02/2023 00:07

*By different standard I mean, another thread running a poster called someone “nasty” for correcting a posters’ grammar and spelling repeatedly.

That’s not a word I would use about correcting grammar. It’s petty. It’s annoying. But nasty?

Similar to whomever used the word “debase”. I know the dictionary definition, but don’t agree that the South Park clips I saw were debasing. They were making fun of specific behaviors, not indicating they are horrible people beyond redemption.

Yet, one poster really enjoys posting seriously nasty things about other royals. The kind of things I’d never write about anyone. I have standards that include not questioning someone’s marriage and commitment, not speculating about divorce, not engaging in speculation about violent acts unless there is solid proof. Not calling their parenting into question. Not bringing up past relationship and marriages to degrade them. Not talking about someone’s looks or body in negative way. Generally, I don’t say anything that I find all that terrible.

But I see certain obsessive H&M fans do these things without hesitation. And when I happen to see this, almost no one on team H&M comes along to tell them it’s wrong. (I remember the names of the posters that do and have a great deal of respect for them.)

No idea if it was you. I copied and pasted it. Feel free to go have a look for it if it means something to you.

I am happy to admit to making errors in grammar and spelling and in more important ways. I realized I forgot a friend’s birthday today and I feel like crap.

I’m not even sure why that particular phrase is wrong, though. I didn’t make it up, but nothing about it struck me as terrible. Which is pretty funny, right?

Gosh, looks like I did write that! @jeffgoldblum

So what’s wrong with it?

PreparationPreparationPrep · 19/02/2023 00:25

Is there more than one episode?

I am going by the posts and assumed it stretched to more than one episode but I have never watched SP and wouldn't watch it just because it is a MN hot topic and they are taking the piss out of H&M this week. ^^ I have heard of the programme but it has never appealed to me and the reference to William and Kate being on there I didn't watch that either.

Why engage with people you think are vile?

because there has been bullying H&M for as long as I've been engaged on the topic and I haven't seen anything different since. It is very mean girl style and they have an excuse every time. They even managed to drag Meghan's name onto the Nicola Bulley thread.
They remind me of playground bully girls and a couple even tried to allude that it was a highbrow debate - one poster often aligns their credentials to the anti topic of the time but has been accused of copying and pasting from Wikipedia. I don't know how true it is - if the constant bullying was at anyone else without cause I would do the same - but it isn't it is deranged and mean spirited but you continue to call it current affairs -

There was a thread asking where Meghan was? Because posters had woken up to the fact that they didn't have anything new to so because they didn't know - they made up all sorts of ludicrous claims about them ,I'm sure you saw it_. Not started by the supporters but the anti brigade, I mean what excuse can you have for that?

You have Royalists who are obsessed and have taken H&M as personally offending them so would go as far as standing up for RF members like LM and Andrew than concede that they are as dodgy as f**k. Because they have not even been charged with an offence. What offence were M&H charged with?
