If King Charles asked people not to boo the couple and did a deal with newspapers and TV to not print pictures of them or comment on their appearance, do you think they would come.

If there was a total news blackout where they were concerned (which I would just love!) so we didn't have to even see them, (apart from a passing glimpse), i think I could bear them coming. Daddy clearly want them there. Fatted calf and all that.

Would this get around the problem of them taking the spotlight away from the actual ceremony?

They were not friendly. You can keep stating this as a fact but it is not true.

Obviously I can't say for sure but I too have read that Diana and Charles were on good terms in the last months of her life.

How can you say so categorically that this is untrue? Were you there?

ExistenceOptional · 07/03/2023 20:20

I was reading the press at the time.
This idea they were on friendly terms was a rewritten narrative after her death to try and ease Camilla in.

How do you know exactly?
Are you Clive Goodman?

I was reading press at the time as well and it was reported they were on much better terms.

Oh, yes, the press was all true at that time.

They only started making things up when Harry turned 16. I forgot.

Fine carry on rewriting history. Royalists do it all the time.

I too was reading the press at the time, but unlike you, I take it with a pinch of salt.

I'm saying that the "peasants" as you say didn't usually have their parents divorce splattered all over the papers a d every teacher, pupil, man and his dog knowing the intimate details of the break up.

If you think that's easy I don't know what to say.

Well if it's made up, then it was "made up" and accepted at the time of the Inquest.

So I suspect better sourced than mere tittle-tattle - no I've not flogged back through all the under-oath testimony, but the state of the relationship was certainly a matter touched on, and that's when accounts of better terms were emerging. Are you saying there's nothing in the Inquest material on this?

KrasiTime · 07/03/2023 20:45

You could tell Charles was distraught & shocked when Diana died. He looked stricken.

I seem to remember that they were getting on better. Sometimes happens when the dust settles a little.

It is true. Prove it's not.

Why would her friends lie about it? Not the palace, her own friends?

ExistenceOptional · 07/03/2023 20:51

The only evidence they were friendly comes frim Tina Brown who pretty much writes whatever Charles wants published.

What 'evidence' to the contrary was there in 'the press at the time'?

Not everything is a conspiracy.

On June 23, 1997, two months before she died, Diana attended a cocktail party at Christie's in New York to celebrate the upcoming charity auction of a number of her dresses. When fellow guests commented on the Verdura bracelet she was wearing, gold with a diamond clasp of interlocking C's, she quipped, "That is for Charles, and that is for Camilla."

Diana died in August 1997.

And...

ExistenceOptional · 07/03/2023 21:01

July 13, 1996: Diana would retain her home and office, share custody of her sons with her ex-husband and receive the reported sum of at least $22 million, plus yearly office expenses of $600,000. And yes, Diana was still Princess of Wales—but she would no longer go by HRH. Diana planned on fighting for the HRH, but dropped it when then-14-year-old William assured her it didn't matter to him. She would still be "regarded as a member of the royal family," the palace stated.

The palace lied by the way. When she died the Queen initially said it would be a private family funeral as she was not a member of the Royal family.

You think that sounds like someone close to her ex husband? I think it sounds like someone who still feels bitter.

Roundlampshade · 07/03/2023 21:10

Diana’s astrologer have a TV interview saying that they were in friendly terms. Charles was being driven past KP and was caught short so he entered Diana’s apartment to use the facilities and as he was getting back I to the car Diana shouted out from her window “Same time next week?”

Do you have a link? I have never heard that story before.

Yes. Apparently Diana was good company and could be very funny.

You can make jokes about your ex and still get on with them. Just because you didn't approve of what they did to you and the marriage, doesn't mean you can't move on.
