The "Where's Meghan" Question Has Been Definitively Answered ...

She's been busy!

I hope that those who expressed concern will be happy to know that she has been working with the Archewell team on their just released Impact Report.

Meghan and Harry are polarising figures but there is no doubt that they have galvanising power to get projects, both little and big, off the ground.

Harry, with William and Kate, was a co-founder of the Royal Foundation in 2011. They had a start-up fund of just under 5 million pounds, of which 1.3 million pounds was given away in grants.

10 yrs later, Harry and Meghan set up Archewell, with start up funds of 13 million dollars, and give away three million dollars in grants.

As with both foundations, the reserve is carried over.

The range of their projects is interesting, from working with the Vaccine Alliance to raise private sector contributions to distribute vaccines, endowing academic fellowships, working with partners in resettling refugees from Ukraine and Afghanistan, working with World Central Kitchens, to smaller projects like the Uvalde community playground and park and a really cute project to a small charity that gives free hair braiding to young black girls in Texas.

I am so pleased for them, their advisors and staff as this is a dream start for any start up. I have long been sceptical that they may have spread themselves too thinly, so I am glad to see they are now focusing on just three areas, as they find their groove.

€13m raised and only $3million distributed. Doesn't sound like a raging success story to me.

Especially against the context of 17 members of staff leaving and the fortune this couple have made from Netflix and “Spare”.

MichelleScarn · 30/01/2023 12:00

Are you from there press office @MrsMaxDeWinter? Can't open that link so wasn't sure if your post is just copied from there?

peepholepringle · 30/01/2023 12:00

😂 Good grief

MichelleScarn · 30/01/2023 12:01

Oh balls! *their! Anyone else getting a really jumpy screen?!

No different from the Royal Foundation raising 4.8 million and giving away 1.3 in its first year.

Start ups would go broke if they gave away all the money they raised in the first year. They need to build endowment capital, etc.

I have no idea about the details. But it is usual for Trusts to build up an amount that can be invested and generate a sustainable income that can be given out as grants.

MrsMaxDeWinter · 30/01/2023 12:20

@Mynelast

I think you may be confusing Archewell Productions and the foundation.

AP is a commercial entity, that's who made the commercial deals.

AF is a charitable foundation.

Think of it like this: the Duchy of Cornwall is the commercial entity owned by the Duke of Cornwall, now William. The Royal Foundation is a charity run by William and Kate. Earthshot, one of their projects, is not funded by the Duchy of Cornwall.

H and M have a similar set up: a commercial arm that makes commercial deals, and a charitable foundation that is separate and gives grants.

Hope that's clear.

Precisely.

The most successful foundations are the ones that last because they are based on endowments and raise working capital for costs and grants.

Not keen on the partnership claims, throw a small amount of money and PR to a charity and then claim the achievements of the charity. Otherwise the more money the better, ugly to do comparisons

Aldibag · 30/01/2023 12:27

MrsHazdeWindsor? Is that you?

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 30/01/2023 12:31

Oh but we know what she's been doing.

Making her own frock for the coronation.

HareAndBear · 30/01/2023 12:31

Weird post.

Viviennemary · 30/01/2023 12:33

Why does anybody even need to know where she is. She will probably be in America as that's where she lives.

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/01/2023 12:34

Did Meghan write that report or something? If H&M are interested in uplifting women, fostering community, restoring trust in information and mental health, why on earth are they trashing their brand?

doubleshotcappuccino · 30/01/2023 12:36

@MrsMaxDeWinter glad you posted .. they're amazing - working hard and raising millions despite all the racism trolls haters for whom
Daily mail is their only source of news .. luckily the world has other news sources hence their global reach and support

You may not be keen on the approach but it is a common approach in grant making.

Because otherwise, the foundations end up replicating work that is being done well by others. Archewell is clearly a grant making foundation. They identify projects that need support and partner with them.

Look up the Open Society and the Clooney foundation among others, who follow a similar approach in giving grants to partner organisations who are working on the ground.

The partners seem happy enough, judging by their various statements.

@Boulshired we are not talking just small amounts of money: in addition to their own grant giving, MM and PH convened a private sector roundtable on vaccines, at which Mastercard gave 25 million to the Vaccine Alliance, just one example. The CEO of Global Citizen has given an interview about this.

There have been smaller grants too but with a big impact, eg the hair braiding charity received 20k from AF which was matched to 40k by another foundation (Americans have a matching donations approach) which in turn had a ripple effect for their fundraising. And more importantly, allowed the charity to grow and make many little black girls happy in Texas.

What a ridiculously obsequious OP 😁

I am so pleased for them, their advisors and staff as this is a dream start for any start up.

It’s incredible… all they had was a dream, the drive, tens of millions of pounds, the allure of being associated with royalty and a huge publicity team. It really gives you hope.

Such a peculiar post. Weird choice of terms. Weird phrasing. You really are working overtime for someone.

Hair braiding charity? My, oh my, we really need that, don't we?
