I keep hearing this rumour and I'm just curious to know where it comes from? Where is the evidence?

Anyway, I'm off now - lots of differences of opinion, much to reflect on. Thanks to those who can discuss without getting personal or unpleasant. I feel sorry for those in the public eye and on here who have suffered because of all this kind of stuff.
Happy Easter 🐣! 😊

Not by me they haven’t.

You certainly agreed down thread with those that did.

I have to go and attend to Easter prep but I can only repeat what I said much earlier which was…

Not all Republicans are necessarily unpleasant people devoid of any sympathy for the individual members of the RF.

I have nothing against K and W and have previously stated that they are doing a good job. I think it must be torturous being in their shoes tbh and I am worried for their dc.

I think it is really important for the future of the uk to challenge the status quo and to freely discuss all the stories we are being fed on both sides!

And I stand by my assertion that it is the people that support and perpetuate the monarchy who do far more harm to the individual members of the RF than those who want the whole shebang abolished!

Sorty but it’s a shame that you were pretty personal and unpleasant down thread then Maireas.

Thank you for the discussion everyone.

I forgot to say that I agree with your post Bouledeneige

Happy Easter everyone!

Onthenextcourt67 · 08/04/2023 14:39

Sorry not sorty! 😀

ArcaneWireless · 08/04/2023 14:50

To you as well jeff 🐣

Do remember to pm me when you are able. 😊

And Derxa - I hope you can now hold your head high. It took me a while - and I trust few now. Those very few people who stood by me and piped up I will fight to the death for. Those who gossiped, shunned me or stood by and did nothing? They are nowt to me. I absolutely understand and I wish you every happiness going forward. I really do. 🌻

Those saying that a republic is better, if you are thinking about the impact on the individuals and their children, I don’t think the treatment of Hilary and Chelsea Clinton, the Bush twins, Michelle, Sasha and Malia Obama and Melania Trump by partisan voters and press corps would support that argument.

I think France is a better example, where the press and public genuinely don’t seem that bothered about the personal lives of their presidents. Mitterrand concealed a mistress and daughter until his death. Sarkozy and Hollande both had separations and new relationships while in the public eye. They caused far less of a stir than anything we see here. But that’s a cultural issue as much as a constitutional one.

You can either follow the American system or the French.

Only affirming Harry's point that the dynamics must change and you have a choice.

Onthenextcourt67 · 08/04/2023 15:23

Very good point Serenster about different national systems - apologies -
I missed it in the fray!

It's more than a job. It's a family.

You don't even choose to 'apply', you are just in.

There is the family and the job. You can leave the job and not the family. Lots of family businesses are like that. People are shocked, people catastrophise and then life goes on. I've seen it in businesses I've worked for. It is ridiculous to say they can't leave as they wouldn't be the first.

He's a lot of things @ancientgran but normal isnt one of them

CurlewKate · 09/04/2023 01:08

@ancientgran Doing normal things like that I agree. Not when he's "on show".

MonsoonMadness · 09/04/2023 06:30

Poor child. He can’t even watch the football with his Dad in peace.

ancientgran · 08/04/2023 20:42

For anyone worried about George have a look at these pictures, he looks like a very normal happy little boy enjoying the football with his dad.https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/prince-george-prince-william-aston-villa/

I don't think any of us are saying George isn't normal, or indeed happy. I do think he looks overawed and a bit uncomfortable on occasions. Which is completely normal behaviour for someone of his age.

Whereas Charlotte comes across as more of an extrovert and very comfortable on the public stage. I'm not worried for George - that's the weird and wonderful system of being born into something you have no control over - and I'm sure he'll find his own path.

I think he just has a serious face for serious things and when he's doing fun stuff, like watching his team with his dad, he has his happy face although I suppose if they'd lost he might have a sad face. I think that goes for lots of kids but people don't analyse the serious occasions which might be much more low key than George's serious things but just as important to them.

Have a lot at ssd's post a couple of posts above yours. Still think no one is saying he isn't normal?

ancientgran · 09/04/2023 09:25

That should have been have a look not have a lot.

CurlewKate · 09/04/2023 09:31

@ancientgran Fair enough. I hope you're right, but I had an anxious child and I know the look.

dew141 · 09/04/2023 09:40

This one? I interpreted that as his circumstances aren't normal as he's in the RF (which is true). Not an observation on his personality. Still, it wasn't my post so it's just conjecture on my part.

Overall, I'm pretty indifferent to the Royals so it's not a big deal to me either way. I interviewed Princess Anne for a BBC programme when I was ten and she was properly kick-ass so she gets the thumbs up. Edward and Sophie seem ok too. But I have no respect for some of them (particularly Andrew and the H&M circus) and I think the monarchy needs to slim down to survive.

I know it as well. I look like that in virtually every photo until I hit my teens. I have no idea why as I was a perfectly happy child, I wouldn't even say I was a serious child but looking at my photos you'd think the NSPCC should have been involved.

Well it quite clearly states he isn't normal, maybe that wasn't what they meant but it was what they said.
