The royal family

The Royal Family is incredibly dysfunctional

They are an incredibly dysfunctional family with lots of internal rivalries, poor parenting and a strange culture of stay silent and we will protect you from actual crimes, but speak out and we will destroy you.
They really are a mess and I suspect they are so dysfunctional, they do not realise just how messed up the family dynamics are.
But maybe such a dysfunctional family is inevitable within a hereditary monarchy where your accident of birth means you have access to more money and power than your siblings and other close relatives?

@Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious Harry turned to substance abuse just like his parents - Charles (alcohol) and Diana (prescription drugs) to numb his emotional pain. What you grow up around you either mirror or (if you are lucky and receive the right help) begin to reject.

Don't excuse Harry's by blaming his parents. He's an adult. Prince William didn't turn to drugs.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 17/01/2023 17:19

It's funny how people will excuse Harry's drugs and drink but vilify King Charles because they are rumours he drinks a drink a day. Not facts but rumours. Facts about Harry though.

barnbaby · 17/01/2023 17:21

@Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious I am not excusing, I am explaining. That alcohol is a drug, drinking too heavily is drug abuse, and the adult children of addicts often turn to drugs themselves. I don't know whether William drinks or does drugs, but perhaps the endless affairs he is rumoured to have had whilst he was dating Kate were his way of staving off difficult emotions that he didn't have the tools to deal with?

One drink a day is not excessive.

He drinks more than that. His martini every day is the baseline. Camilla said he is an ardent gin drinker. He drinks alcohol at events, as does Camilla.

Again rumours. You have no proof of anything. Its like teenagers at school spreading rumours. No actual real proof. Because you're a Harry fan and you all love to excuse his behaviour. You have no idea about Harry's real home life or what his dad drinks to state Harry's behaviour is because of his dad. All you believe is a fictional book.

Ohnonevermind · 17/01/2023 17:25

@babsanderson what are your opinions on marijuana and cocaine use ?

Harry has admitted to both - and worse

Oh my god, he drinks at events?!? Oh wow

That's alright according to the poster as it's someone else's fault. Not like Harry's an adult or anything.

barnbaby · 17/01/2023 17:28

@Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious I have met hundreds of adults who struggle with addiciton that is rooted in their childhood and the environment they grew up in. It is a long, difficult and brave journey to change that mindset. Worth it though.

And there are many that haven't. Harry clearly hasn't grown up. You're excusing his behaviour. He's an adult. He is solely responsible for his alcohol and drug behaviour.

Harry says he has struggled with alcohol and drugs. It is what you would expect.

And those talking about fault are misunderstanding. Saying someone is a heavy drinker so has alcohol problems is not a slur.

It is if you have no proof, and don't know the person!

babsanderson · 17/01/2023 17:41

Fine. I have posted links showing that he drinks every day and more than one drink. You will not accept the evidence though.

It's not proof. It's rumours. Not evidence.

jeffgoldblum · 17/01/2023 17:45

Because it's not real evidence!
I'm surprised that Mumsnet have left this standing!
You and another poster have openly and blatantly stated the current monarch , King Charles of being an alcoholic, with no real proof but celebrity gossip magazines ( which didn't say this themselves) and what he looks like to you!
If posters made such unfounded allegations about Harry and Megan their would be hell to pay! .
Frankly I'm disgusted!

You haven’t. You posted a link to a gossip website that’s full of “rumoured” and “allegedly”, a puff piece for a Belfast distillery and two articles about his rosecea. Why do you persist in this nonsense when we can all see that not only have you posted no evidence but there’s none to post? Your persistence is surreal.

babsanderson · 17/01/2023 17:48

I have repeatedly said I do not use the term alcoholic, repeatedly.

I have posted links showing in Charles own words that he has a martini every day. He even has a special glass for it he takes when travelling. And a link where Camilla says that Charles is an ardent gin drinker. We know he also drinks beer and wine at events, there is lots of online evidence of that.
So his baseline is one alcoholic drink a day, but in many occasions much more than that.

babsanderson · 17/01/2023 15:05

Call it heavy drinking or functional alcoholic, it does not matter. It is still someone who is excessively drinking alcohol on a weekly basis.

What does this mean then?

babsanderson · 17/01/2023 17:54

There were lots of arguments between other posters about the terms. I am saying the label does not matter. You have to view it as part of the conversation.

Indeed. It’s been used more here in the last couple of weeks than in the previous decade.

jeffgoldblum · 17/01/2023 18:08

Did you not read what I wrote?
Never mind it's too much bother discussing this!

jeffgoldblum · 17/01/2023 18:11

@Blossomtoes , yes sick of it now , context , misquoted , his truth ! All to excuse the things he himself wrote!
New posters popping up to parrot the same guff over and over again!
Obviously don't realise that those of us who've been about a while can notice all this.
