The royal family

The Royal Family is incredibly dysfunctional

They are an incredibly dysfunctional family with lots of internal rivalries, poor parenting and a strange culture of stay silent and we will protect you from actual crimes, but speak out and we will destroy you.
They really are a mess and I suspect they are so dysfunctional, they do not realise just how messed up the family dynamics are.
But maybe such a dysfunctional family is inevitable within a hereditary monarchy where your accident of birth means you have access to more money and power than your siblings and other close relatives?

@Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious There are rumours all over the internet plus the links to articles where Charles and Camilla talk about Charles drinking habits.

I have no idea why you all want to deny that at the minimum he drinks some alcoholic drinks every single day.

Because even if he does, it doesn't make him an alcoholic which you are implying

barnbaby · 17/01/2023 15:03

'High-functioning alcoholics', or 'functioning alcoholic', are colloquial terms for someone who is dependent on alcohol but is still able to function relatively effectively in their daily life. They will be able to continue doing many of their daily tasks like going to work and looking after family members.

babsanderson · 17/01/2023 15:05

Call it heavy drinking or functional alcoholic, it does not matter. It is still someone who is excessively drinking alcohol on a weekly basis.

Are you always so judgemental OP?

Were your parents alcoholics? Is that why you are so angry?

barnbaby · 17/01/2023 15:18

@MissMarpleRocks ACOA (Adult Children Of Alcoholics) are often angry - with very good reason. There are lots of support systems in place for them to receive the sort of therapy and assistance you need to a)recognise b)recover from a parent's addiction problem.

MissMarpleRocks · 17/01/2023 15:40

Thank you but that’s no excuse for implying I had issues with alcohol. I do have the odd glass but I’m very careful due to my medication.

Po faced? I find people with alcohol issues often insult those who point them out.

I probably shouldn’t have said po faced though.

barnbaby · 17/01/2023 15:42

My friend who is an ex alcoholic said that he can always spot alcoholics by how they react to how he talks about drinking. Its like an alike-radar apparently to those who have been through it.

babsanderson · 17/01/2023 15:45

@MissMarpleRocks You were mocking me for saying drinking some alcoholic drinks regularly every day is an issue.

Not everyone with rosacea is a heavy drinker, but it is a common cause.

I do not say he is an alcoholic, I say he is a heavy drinker.

You have no idea whatsoever how much he drinks. You are stirring a martini.

babsanderson · 17/01/2023 16:56

I posted links about the amount he drinks.

pompomdaisy · 17/01/2023 16:57

Yes but it's good viewing.

Ohnonevermind · 17/01/2023 17:09

@babsanderson

Perhaps Harry is more in need of your insights with the amount of drugs he’s admitted to taking

Slurping his wife’s gas during Labour,
smoking joints while she’s sleeping, admitting to taking lots of drugs sure
that seems more in need of your attention than a daily g&T or martini

Blossomtoes · 17/01/2023 17:11

babsanderson · 17/01/2023 16:56

You didn’t.

babsanderson · 17/01/2023 17:11

@Ohnonevermind People who regularly drink alcohol often minimise the impact of a few or more alcoholic drinks every day. I think we can see the impact on Charles. He looks like a drinker.

OP posts:
barnbaby · 17/01/2023 17:12

@Ohnonevermind Alcohol is a drug and is treated like one by the NHS and rehabilitation centres. All drugs can cause mental health issues and illness. The only difference is you pay duty on one.
And yes, the children of addicts often use substances because they have seen it as normalised - the substances don't always match what the parent chose to use, but the medication of the emotions is mirrored.

One drink a day is not excessive.

I would say that's the more pressing one. Why don't you judge that OP? I think it's evident what drugs are doing to Harry's state of mind

barnbaby · 17/01/2023 17:14

@Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious well the NHS prescribes 6 a week max so it is excessive on their criteria.

barnbaby · 17/01/2023 17:16

@Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious Harry turned to substance abuse just like his parents - Charles (alcohol) and Diana (prescription drugs) to numb his emotional pain. What you grow up around you either mirror or (if you are lucky and receive the right help) begin to reject.

Blossomtoes · 17/01/2023 17:16

And here we have it at last “He looks like a drinker”. So did my dad. He had approximately one drink a week, a bit more red wine on holiday or at Christmas.
