Where is Meghan?

I haven't seen hide-nor-hair of Meghan since the book release which is uncharacteristic of her. Even with the Montecito floods there was no news. So I'm wondering how this is playing out? Happiness or anger behind closed doors?

@skullbabe I'm only commenting on what she said re Harry and Meghan. She maintains other stances, and that's her prerogative

She said H&M were liars re: unconscious bias vs racism. It was very clear from that conversation what she was referring to and you only referring to her calling them liars when she very much believed that they called the royal family racist does not support your point. Hence why I brought up what her actual position is.

skullbabe · 05/03/2023 11:08

I agree @notanotheroneagain - but this type of nuance is lost on some.

Serenster · 05/03/2023 11:08

Harry was loved by his mother until 12, his father loved him but was not demonstrative. Pretty common for families of that generation.

There are a lot (like really, a lot) of photos of Charles being physically affectionate towards Harry. Some caught by paparazzi from a distance too, so not at all posed. There’s video footage too of him hugging his sons (the famous shot of Diana running to hug them on the Britannia? She was followed immediately afterwards by Charles also hugging both boys, but that didn’t make the papers). Harry’s recollection of his childhood is clearly that he didn’t get affection, but that doesn’t mean it’s the case.

Persona non grata with the royal family and the Hollywood elite - they are still in the press and probably will be for years

I know non stop articles on them - meanwhile as you said earlier there was an entire royal tour of the Caribbean in the past month……….barely a word.

Its amusing.

PH&MM have become the two main characters in a real life soap opera and all forms of media are having a field day with it. Not sure if that's what the couple set out to achieve but it's what they've got.

Tontostitis · 05/03/2023 11:14

The South Parkles seem to have achieved global notoriety I'm sure if they just keep telling their story, updating the past to fit the latest version of course, eventually it will be global sainthood.

Why won’t you fly Air France @skullbabe ?

I used to track crashes as a child and into my 20s (I know - I’m fun at dinner parties). That’s all I will say about Air France.

DuchessOfPort · 05/03/2023 11:21

the way that Louis climbed on to Grandpa’s lap at the jubilee shows that Charles is perfectly comfortable with physical affection. He’s not as black as he’s being painted.

There were no royal rota reporters accompanying Edward and Sophie on their tour though, hence no stories in the UK press. They don’t drive clicks or readers clearly, hence the limited coverage. Clearly, people read stories about the Sussexes, hence all the stories. It’s simple economics.

Why though?

Why would Edward & Sophie not expect their Royal Tour to Cayman, Bahamas, Turks & Caicos, to be reported. Seems a bit odd. The RF always like this sort of thing in the media, I wonder if it is because the K&W had some bad publicity on their royal tour.

Economics or not, the RF need as much good media coverage as they can get.

purpledalmation · 05/03/2023 11:25

@skullbabe If she didn't call them liars, why did she feel the need to apologise to Piers Morgan (of all people). Split hairs all you like, but in my book a liar is a liar.

All these are staged.

There is even a video of that second one where H seemed to have forgotten his brief, is reminded, then leans in.

But this is exactly the point - people say they’re tired of them but until the press stop writing endless articles they won’t stop hearing about them.

And the press won’t stop because the demand for any content about them drive clicks and page views and makes them money. They have proven to be extremely lucrative - so for the people who say they are winding down into obscurity and want them to go away, they need to take the first step by not consuming any content about them, swipe past that headline, change the channel when they come on, don’t read the articles, don’t read the books, don’t listen to the podcasts - just leave them alone. This will do exactly what many people claim to want (not you specifically Serenster) - make them go away.

milti · 05/03/2023 11:29

They took the short term money shot - attacking the royal family and playing victims- but failed to think long term and now they have nowhere to go- together anyway- there may be a way forward for Meghan on her own

  1. without the royal connection, nobody is really interested in them
  2. they have no credibility - they exaggerate, lie and ‘misremember’
  3. The victim card doesn’t play well for multi millionaires in the current climate - bitterness, blame and word salad
  4. Meghan has a reputation for being unpleasant to people - see rebel Wilson this weekend
  5. They underestimated William’s influence
  6. They are faux humanitarians - they give nothing of their own and a small percentage of other peoples money
  7. They are running out of things to say and people are bored of the same old stuff - trauma, healing, waaggh

And yet here you are....

We have all seen carefully curated social media profiles of friends, families and celebrities which have beautiful pictures and amazing posts and the we know the reality is not always the same. No one really knows.

Are you saying Meghan was lying?

Serenster · 05/03/2023 11:31

Maybe they are trailblazing new ways of managing tours? Both the Wessexes’ and Princess Anne’s recent “no royal rota” tours garnered loads of positive media from the local press. (As did the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Caribbean tour, by the way, too).

If they are focussed on local charities and local issues maybe they feel that just the local press attention will do, and the agendas that other publications are keen to push are a double-edged sword, so can be sidestepped?

milti · 05/03/2023 11:32

@skullbabe you’re right - but even I am getting bored of reading the same old stuff - I haven’t looked at the latest interview - it’s just the same rehashing of his difficult childhood - does he have any idea of the suffering some children endure?

If that's the case, I think that is a good thing.

However, you will get people saying "what do they actually do for all this money" and not knowing!

milti · 05/03/2023 11:35

@Roussette yes I am here - as I have every right to be - for as long as I like 👍🏻

Course you can!! It wouldn't be the same without you lol

(I must cut down on the !!, I was told last night that meant I was rattled and desperate!)

Weird then isn't it... that the papers are full day after day after day with countless articles about them. Someone needs to tell the media they're finished and they're persona non grata!

There's some catching up to do on that.

I agree. They're like catnip, love them or hate them, people can't stop talking about them. Even Chris Rock devoted a segment of his Netflix show to Meghan. Everyone's talking about them.

So - this is common use in the UK. I always thought that it had different etymology in US vs UK English - hence why a slur in the US and ok here. Just had a quick read - yep, etymology which is interesting. It really is so common place here I would never have thought. Thanks @Morestrangethings for giving me food for thought.

We used Alexa for shopping list and I can't put faggots on it - wont let me and tells anyone trying off.

Faggots I'm trying to order are a meat product - usually Mr. Brain's Pork Faggots. These are according to my Dad not a patch on my Great Grandma - who worked as a butcher -own.

South park did a whole episode on entomology of faggots and changing meaning.

It started out as meaning end of/small bits then scaggy unwanted bits that get looked down on - in books you'll sometime see talk of faggots of wood. One of my head of year in secondary used to confuse us by talking about a fag/fagging being a drag or something you didn't want to do never come across that usage again.

Back of a fag packet and fag paper from roll your owns are much less commonly used as smoking in general has decreased so even less common in younger people.

I've had to explain to my teens what being sent to Coventry meant- we used to live near the city possibly comes from the civil war events but all possible origins come from pervious centuries.

I confused DD2 with if you start to flag - she had vision of waving flags rather than being too tried - yet to flag something up - raise concerns - she understood and to flag something down, to stop someone usually a vehicle in emergency, she also understood.

Meghan's family do make me feel a bit sorry for her with their behavior- though others do seem to have helped her - it seems a mixed bag like many people's families and 6 of 1 and half a dozen of the other -noone one behaving perfectly around events.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/03/2023 11:54

Interesting points about the lack of the royal rota on Edward, Sophie and Anne's recent tours, Serenster

I'm still surprised tthough - I get leaving a lot to the (largely positive) local media, but the palace have always liked to make the most of the "Look at all we're doing" coverage and it seems one heck of a change

Samcro · 05/03/2023 11:54

faggots are still a thing www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/products/282049626
as here. fag papers and having a fag, yes smokers say that.
