Shocked to see in this mornings Telegraph that Harry is concerned for the other "spares" He just wants to break the bad parenting pattern and stop it happening to Charlotte or George. If I was W&K I would be absolutely LIVID by now. What does anyone else think?

@vera99

And there we have it, it’s not about lofty ideals, it’s about making money.

Phew! As long as the Harkles are ‘highly monetizable like the Kardashians’, they should be happy, right?

After all, that’s what they left the UK for, right, ‘to working to become financially independent’.

(As an aside, my phone does not like ‘monetizable’ - are you sure that’s a real word?)

Apparently so but probably horribly American just like the "Harkles" (a term btw that I hate keep trolling me !). They need oodles of cash to fund their 'freedom' that's no surprise to anybody surely. If we flipped the gender it would be "Marry" - sounds much better.

en.wiktionary.org/wiki/monetizable

monetizable (comparative more monetizable, superlative most monetizable)
Able to be converted into cash with relative ease.
Stocks and bonds are monetizable assets.

Newsweek has also carried out a poll and H&M's popularity has plummeted in the US.

Prince Harry has dropped 45 points in United States public opinion while Meghan Markle has dropped 36 points in just more than a month, according to exclusive polling for Newsweek.

Redfield & Wilton polled 2,000 U.S. eligible voters for Newsweek on January 16, six days after the publication of Spare.

Prince Harry was liked by 31 percent and disliked by 38 percent giving him a net approval rating of -7. Data collected by Redfield & Wilton for Newsweek as recently as December 5 put Harry at +38, meaning he dropped 45 points in just more than a month.

Meghan was viewed favorably by 26 percent of Americans and unfavorably by 39 percent, giving her a net approval rating of -13. This compares to +23 on December 5, a drop of 36 points.

When you have ultra lefty anchors like Don Lemon criticising you, you know you are in trouble:

Jimmy Kimmel is super lefty and LA based - he knows the Hollywood elites and is not afraid to have a spat with people in power. If he is laughing at you, not with you, you are not winning.

1/3 of Americans like Harry though and Stephen Colbert is a super fan and John Oliver is yet to call... Jimmy Kimmell would roast W&K to be fair so that doesn't count. I'st less than half-time and they are still in the game...

Ohnonevermind · 20/01/2023 15:13

@vera99

They’ve invested a lot and those Newsweek numbers aren’t encouraging

They should have followed Michele Obamas lead

BabyStopCryin · 20/01/2023 15:14

My sister called me from the states to say how awful everyone thought they were.

Ridemeginger · 20/01/2023 15:17

William and Kate aren't seeking popularity and to make a living in the US.

I am a seasoned Colbert watcher. He is old school. I have no doubts that he has sympathy - as everyone does - over Harry losing his mother young (as Colbert did with his father and brother). But the childish complaints of the already over-privileged are not going to wash with him, and as for the puerile penis stuff. No. Sorry, but I very much doubt he is a H&M super fan.

Don't forget those polls though. Americans love a poll. TV bosses love a poll too.

They both have a negative net approval rating, and dropping.

"W&K" don't need the American public to like them. The Harkles do. Don't their defenders always say that it's the American market that really counts? These numbers really don't look good for them and since they seem to have no 'product' other than complaining about how hard it is to be royal, it's hard to see how they can turn this round.

Peverellshire · 20/01/2023 15:18

The money they now have will buy them hugely increased power & status over time, which will mean huge success & popularity Stateside…

vera99 · 20/01/2023 15:18

Anyway turns out the Windsors are usurpers to the Crown if Henry V111's will had be followed this guy would be King.

What money?

In A list celebrity terms, they're paupers.

Peverellshire · 20/01/2023 15:23

@IcedPurple you’re right, but I feel this might be only the start in terms of wealth.

If not, then power/status popularity will fall.

What’s the net worth of the wealthiest in Montecito? Or Clooneys?

So where is this great income stream going to come from for them? What are their marketable talents?

The Montecito elite are worth hundreds of millions. A few billion in Oprah's case. The Harkles don't come anywhere near that level of wealth, yet it's the standard to which they obviously aspire.

They've got the seedcorn money banked now - probably 20 -50 mill maybe net. Their advisors will be war gaming how you get that to 100 and above. Investments obviously , more books and tie ins and then maybe selective product endorsement. Scotch whisky in Asia for Harry , Meghan an ethical clothing and jewellery line with say 5% going to Archewell/Invictus.

Organic / vegan stuff and self-help book and mentoring program. Finding Freedom - the Sussex Way.

Talking with foxes like monkey tennis just a placeholder at the moment. 😁

Peverellshire · 20/01/2023 15:28

To add, the Royal factor boosts profile too, Harry being seen as more articulate, intelligent & aware than previously by many Stateside.

Peverellshire · 20/01/2023 15:29

@IcedPurple how do you see things playing out?

You're forgetting that a very expensive lifestyle has to be paid for from that 'seedcorn money'.

And to be frank, I think you're in denial about just how badly they've destroyed their own 'brand'. The kind of projects you suggest might have been viable 3 years ago, although you'd wonder why they didn't try to launch them then if they thought they were a good idea, even with the pandemic. But now, they're just an international joke and are associated with negativity and rancour. Hardly the best starting point for a 'wellness' brand. And no company is going to be want to be associated with that. Willy warmers by Harry might be as good as it gets.

vera99 · 20/01/2023 15:32

Indeed it has begun already....

Blossomtoes · 20/01/2023 15:32

I suspect Netflix are already regretting their £100 million deal, it’s very unlikely to be repeated.

Peverellshire · 20/01/2023 15:33

@vera99 yes to Asia. How much do you think they could conceivably make? Could they become Billionaire philanthropists in time?

Do we know if the Queen left Harry money? We know they were very close & she may have thought it prudent to make him very independently wealthy???

Are you having a laugh? Have you seen the polls?

And surely the 'royal factor' is fading by the day? We might see them at the Coronation in a minor way, but that will be it. No more waving from the balcony or saluting at the Cenotaph. There are only so many books and 'documentaries' they can write about their brief period as a royal couple. Surely?

The Queen didn’t have enough money for that even if she left him the lot. She wasn’t even the wealthiest woman in Britain. She, too, was a pauper by US standards.

err highest ratings ever and the fastest selling non fiction book of all time. I think you're projecting your distaste onto the facts. H&M get to play themselves in Crown S7.

Where in 'Asia'? Asians have their own celebrities and royal families. Why would they be interested in an exiled British prince pushing 40?

As a generalisation, they also tend to value family very highly, and respect for elders is a cornerstone of many Asian cultures. Why do you believe Asians would be clamouring for him?

DaughterOfPsychiatrist · 20/01/2023 15:43

The Queen’s Will is private. Phil the Greek’s will is private for 90 years.

Likely all the major assets and cash went to Charles (if only for tax avoidance purposes) and the other family members will be limited to personal objects (most stuff will have belonged to the Crown, not the Queen).
