Harry had little access to money

Harry was given Nottingham Cottage a 2 bedroom cottage presumably rent free. He was given security paid by the taxpayers. He was also given a clothing allowance from Charles to pay for clothes for formal public occasions.

But he obviously had little access to money. He bought his casual clothes cheap from TK Maxx and talks about drying shirts on radiators.

When he told Charles he was going to marry Meghan Charles said he could not afford to pay for Meghan and Harry as he was already paying for William and Catherine. Charles suggested Meghan continued working to pay for Garry and Meghan. Meghan paid for furniture from Ikea and sofa.com to improve the furnishings in Nottingham Cottage.

Charles paid for Harry and Meghan's wedding. Although Meghan paid for her own wedding dress. The taxpayers paid for the security.

Remember Harry and Meghan were working Royals.

The taxpayers paid for the renovation of Frogmore Cottage. A cost that Harry and Meghna paid back when they left the Royal Family.

The Civil List used to give a defined amount to each working Royal. But that was changed and all the money went to the heir to dole out.

The Queen and Charles appear to be remarkably stingy towards their own child and grandchild.

@GloomyDarkness They say they bought a secondhand sofa.com sofa, but not that they bought it directly from sofa.com/
I bought a secondhand ikea sofa and say that. The fact that ikea do not sell secondhand sofas does not mean I am lying.

@Coffeetableposhbooks Where did Harry say he regularly bought drugs?
He said he had taken cocaine. Now you have him pegged as a heavy drug user?

If he was bagging everyone else's drugs rather than coughing up for his own share he is an even bigger bellend than I'm giving him credit for!!!

babsanderson · 13/01/2023 12:07

Harry was not a drug addict. You people just make things up.

So when he wrote he was talking to bins whilst high that wasn't him that was his ghost writer lying again?

QueenSmartypants · 13/01/2023 12:10

No.

Harry had personally inherited two fortunes. Firstly from his mother, which was worth £25m in the mid 90s and an undisclosed amount from the Queen Mother. We do know he received more from her than William did, the implication being that it was to give him a good income because he was not the heir.

Many in the aristocracy are notoriously frugal - the Queen was known to be as well during later life at least. He had his own enormous fortune that he controlled, there is no reason why he couldn't pay for things himself except that he didnt see why he should.

I support them both in many areas but this really takes the Biscuit and shows him to be an entitled pratt.

Muliti millionaire couple short of cash shocker !

As if.

RedToothBrush · 13/01/2023 12:11

Sorry I'm missing the cognitive dissonance that's essential to understanding Harry's narrative of poverty.

MandyMotherOfBrian · 13/01/2023 11:59

Bullshit.
One in three children in the UK living in poverty - or one in two from single parent households - the working poor in professional jobs that still need to rely on food banks, the disabled, those on an unlivable NMW or Zero Hours Contract, the homeless - they’re the ones in this country that have little access to money.
This over privileged twat might not be able to spend his millions exactly as he wants when he wants (maybe King Charles has at least some regard for the optics) but that is not the same as having no access to money. The insufferable prick.

This.

QueenSmartypants · 13/01/2023 12:12

There's a difference between taking drugs and being an addict. Ones a choice, the other is not.

jay55 · 13/01/2023 12:12

He should have asked John Major for more then, given he was the trustee of his massive inheritance from his mum.

Sarahconnor1 · 13/01/2023 12:13

Poor impoverished Harry, shall we start a gofundme?

babsanderson · 13/01/2023 12:13

@RedToothBrush He took cocaine. Lots of people on MN take cocaine.
Taking cocaine at some point in your life does not make you a drug addict.

That is like saying William got really drunk once so he must be an alcoholic who should have little access to money.

It is a ridiculous claim. And illustrates perfectly what Harry has talked about.

Can you imagine the indignity of having to use your own credit card to buy your own furniture.

The Royal Family should hang their heads in shame.

Hi megs

Ylvamoon · 13/01/2023 12:16

My heart bleeds!
Clothes from TKMAXX and a second hand sofa! Ridiculous ... meanwhile in the real world the second hand furniture market is booming and I am sure TKMAXX will have a tidy profit.

StatisticallyChallenged · 13/01/2023 12:16

He inherited millions from his mum which were invested and he then got access to at 30
He inherited the bulk of the Queen Mother's fortune
He received a stipend from his father
he had free accomodation which included housekeeping and security

There's no evidence he had little access to money, just that he was tight

I reckon MN users could rustle up some spare Billy bookcases for them.

Sallyandsam · 13/01/2023 12:18

Perhaps he blew his allowance on drugs. Or holiday to Botswana. Or first class plane tickets to/from Canada.

He seemed to find some lose change down the back of his sofa.com sofa to fund those.

Choconut · 13/01/2023 12:18

The own a 14 million dollar house in Montecito. It is in a double gated community is 13,000 square feet and has a private spa, wet and dry sauna and pool. He really didn't ever have to buy his clothes from TK Maxx if he didn't want to. He's such an arse.

hopelesslydevotedtoGu · 13/01/2023 12:20

He inherited £25 million from his mother. He inherited an undisclosed sum from the Queen Mother. He had a free home, and free security in the UK. He DID have access to many millions of his OWN inherited money, in addition to whatever Charles gave him yearly.

He definitely had money. So either he spent very excessively, or for whatever reason he felt he shouldn't be expected to buy his own sofa.

DrMarciaFieldstone · 13/01/2023 12:20

Something was paying for all his coke and drinks at Boujis?

babsanderson · 13/01/2023 12:21

The house in Montecito seems to have bought using his inheritance and Meghan's money.

Sooooooo like the rest of us?

MichelleScarn · 13/01/2023 12:23

I feel for him. Can't imagine the pain and torment of having to dip into a multi million fortune to upgrade my furniture by choice.
