The point is that a lot of what Harry says seems to contain some truth but is not wholly truthful or accurate. He doesn't seem to think that matters. And the publisher doesn't seem to have fact checked. So a flippant anecdote about TK Maxx presumably intended to imply a lack of cash, no big deal. An exaggeration of the gesture made to Thomas Markle intended to show generosity, not the biggest deal but makes you wonder about accounts of their other dealings with him. An inaccurate description of hearing about the Queen Mother's death - saying it was from a nameless courtier while alone at school rather than with your closest family on a luxury holiday, a bigger deal. And then if you apply the same logic to the rest of the book there are accounts of events that are a very big deal indeed. And if they are also not wholly truthful or accurate, well...

My ex used to do this. There would be a grain of truth but it was covered in bs and it was very bad for my mental health as you feel like you’re going mad. He was also a master of lying by omission. The toll it took on my health means I have zero tolerance for that kind of behaviour. Harry does this so I find him very hard to like or believe.

liveforsummer · 13/01/2023 12:06

But it's like saying "I flew first class to New York with Ryanair". That route and class just do not exist. It's a lie.

Unrelated to subject but I could have sworn I'd seen that Ryan air now flew to New York but checked after reading this and see I'm wrong. I'm convinced I'd even priced flights. Mandela effect! 😅

ScribblingPixie · 13/01/2023 12:12

What he says has complete truth. The issue is some of you want to go on a word smithing exercise. People’s memories on such minor details may not be precise. That’s the nature of autobiographies.

No, what he is saying does not have complete truth. That in itself - what you are saying - is untruthful. Fact-checking and 'wordsmithing' ie improving work for readability & style are two different things.

theworldhas · 13/01/2023 12:46

That route and class just do not exist. It's a lie. Now, the editor should have picked up on this, but I suspect they are RF fans and have just let Harry dig himself deeper and deeper.

Yeah, deeper and deeper so terrible. 1.5 million sales on the first day. People still don’t get it. They don’t really want to reconcile because the Royal Family are not nice people at all. Which isn’t to say the H&M are wonderful humans either. The whole thing is a circus and we should copy Ireland and have a rotating elected but symbolic head of state or - if not that, then at least slim the whole circus down 10x like other European monarchies.

As a start let’s at least stop the media deification/bullying. None of them are anything other than bog standard run of the mill people who just happen to have (or marry people with) famous/historically significant ancestors. The whole media fetishisation of “baby royals” in this country is grotesque, and it’s no wonder they nearly all end up angry and fucked up.

No amount of harassment by the unhinged British press and some people in the U.K. will change the swathe of people who believe that Harry and Meghan have been treated horrendously and that that the British media and the Royal Family are in bed with each other. These are the main take seats. Oh and also that the Royal Family is a cold and dysfunctional one.

The British media may control how you think but outside of the U.K.? Nope!

You should look at the Yougov poll on support for the Royal fairytale. Very interesting.

I believe Harry and Meghan.

Whyarewehere · 13/01/2023 11:12

Exactly! It beggars belief. Funny how no one wants to ask why Harry's uncle paid £12mill to a girl he's allegededly never met...

Well you would wouldn't you !

Slimy creep of a non sweaty person isn't he

They're not asking because it's not in the book - there are other threads about Andrew

And TKMaxx were the originators of the "that's wrong, we don't have an annual sale" comment, so I think I'll take their word for it

Well this is the royal family section of mumsnet & I am here to discuss this hilarious, completely fabricated shit show 🤣 And I won't apologise! There that's MY truth😉

I think the nitpicking by the media and obvious glee of ‘catching them out’ just reinforces their point.

they are continually harassed and scrutinising by a vindictive baying mob desperate to trip them up.

yes they’ve misrepresented/lied about a couple of things. They’re human 🤷‍♀️

the malice towards them on threads like this only gives credence to their point of view

I know right.. So much bullshit to call out🤣🤣🤣

Naughty, I know, but that made me laugh. 😂😂😂

Kateforqueen · 13/01/2023 13:38

@FurAndFeathers then they should shut the hell up ffs & live the private life they are roaring & shouting about... They involved everyone from Oprah to the Taliban in this "cry for privacy". ++

You should look at the Yougov poll on support for the Royal fairytale. Very interesting.

Which Yougov poll? Their main headline is 'Prince Harry's popularity falls further as Spare hits the shelves. Four out of 10 Britons say the motivation behind the book's release is to make money'. Only 21 per cent think the motivation was to tell his side of the story. A reduced number - 24 per cent of Britons - now have a positive view of Prince Harry (it's 70 per cent for Prince William). But the row has damaged the monarchy in general: Britons think less well of the monarchy since the last poll and more likely to be embarrassed by them. However the same number (59 per cent) think the monarchy is good for Britain and 64 per cent want to keep it.

Please can you direct me to when they said they moved / left for privacy?

Also, have you posted other threads under different names OP? There have been similar M&H hate threads where the OP’s style and tone is identical to yours. You really are obsessed aren’t you?

ThighMistress · 13/01/2023 13:45

So, do you believe the job of Fact Checker is redundant? I believe it is The New Yorker which prides itself on having the best fact checking of any publication. When they messed up a while back over an article on sports scholarships they were most contrite. Is this all a waste of time? Is libel a non-crime?

westcoast · 13/01/2023 13:48

I am not a Harry fan BUT I 100% think he means the Air NZ flight from LAX to LHR. It originates in Auckland and has a stop in LAX.

Her father was living just over the border in Mexico and it would be very common for people in that area to drive back and forth to the US.

Sure, San Diego is closer airport (possible with a direct flight to LHR???) but Megan was also based in Canada and probably flew Air Canada A LOT, which is Star Alliance, Air NZ is also star alliance so she probably used miles or her FF status to get him special treatment/an airline escort though/low key back entry terminal at LAX etc.

notimagain · 13/01/2023 13:50

Complete truth. These minor things are just that, minor.

Problem with that approach is once even minor holes start to appear in accounts the reader might be justified in asking how much of an entire account/book is accurate (regardless of the author or source).

westcoast · 13/01/2023 13:50

As for the “First Class” I think he just made a mistake, although Air NZ business class is top notch.

theworldhas · 13/01/2023 13:52

@ScribblingPixie

Imagine how fast that 59% would drop if the BBC et al. didn’t speak in hushed tones during their royal coverage and stopped feeding the myth of sacred royalty. Imagine how fast it would fall if we had a broad two sided public debate every few years about how well an inherited monarchy serves/represents 21st century Britain. It’s easy to (just about) win the public’s support when dissenting voices are nearly completely kept out of mainstream media.

If they did I don't know what you'd find to fill your mind.

Laiste · 13/01/2023 13:56

So they're allowed to ''make mistakes'' because ''they're human' ie: bend the truth a bit ... but no one else is.

🙄

Bloody hypocrites the pair of them.
Look at us don't look at us.

theworldhas · 13/01/2023 13:57

IMO a better and more creative, more meritocratic and dynamic Britain will never come to pass in a country still stuck singing a dirge like ode to God and King.

ferneytorro · 13/01/2023 14:05

It's just a bit unnecessary to mention the type of seat isn't it - we said we would get him a flight to the UK, no need to say whether economy, economy delight, premier, business or first.

@theworldhas
You make thoughtful points and you are right of course re demographics .
The 62% covers all ages over 18 - there is a majority against the 'royals ' among 18-24

And support for the monarchy is falling by roughly 10% per decade .
The £100 million coronation is a mistake and wont result in the bounce in support that royalists expect .
The bbc is currently a propaganda mouthpiece for the royals and the Tories - for example they made a big splash about the protestor in Oxford who was arrested for shouting ' not my king'
It went under the radar that the CPS reversed the police decision and there is no case to answer
Hopefully once the tories are out this sort of one sided reporting will be corrected to some degree
Reform of the House of Lords will start the process of sidelining unearned unelected influence

babsanderson · 13/01/2023 14:28

pairofrollerskates · 13/01/2023 10:56

FFS! So he said "First Class" instead of "Premier Business Class" - how is that a big deal? Give the guy a break!

Agreed. Someone is combing this book for tiny tiny discrepancies.
This does not point to them lying. I think they were telling the t6ruth.

pocketvenuss · 13/01/2023 14:33

OP your obsession is worrying. Does this whole debacle really cause you enough distress to dedicate so much time to it? Really Petal, and I say this with kindness. Get a life.
