No surprises here. Days before the wedding the dresses didn’t fit. Couture gowns, made by Givenchy from measurements sent in. This tailor worked day and night but they had all six dresses to fix. It’s obvious they couldn’t get it all done. They really needed remade.

I think we can see why Kate was upset and why Charlottes dress and some of the other younger flower girls dresses looked awful.

I used to be a wedding planner/wedding and events manager.

I have seen many a 3 year old cry over a dress/page boy outfit/kilt/button holes/not being in a bridal gown/ not having a colour dress they wanted/having to wear formal shoes

I mean I've also had many brides cry for various reasons also and the odd groom.

Weddings are stressful.😬

My brother's ring bearer cried because he had been told he'd get to wear a "monkey suit". When the suit wasn't really a monkey suit, he was very upset.

Wow @StatisticallyChallenged

That pic really shows the the mangled hemline.
I think they’ve taken in and up at the waist and it’s affected how the hem is sitting. There must have been too much fabric in the skirt.

which shows that it was beyond simple alterations, this was a cut and shut

The dresses needed remade. Kate was correct

I think they've taken it in down the sides, possibly even taken the sleeves off and lifted the shoulders to try and bring the neckline in (there's a front on picture of it where the neckline looks kind of odd to me, the shape seems wrong) but there's a limit isn't there.

You can see the bodice is still very big

ItWasDobbinAtTheMareAndSpare · 10/01/2023 22:06

In the book it doesn’t say they’re texts, the words are correct but they seem to be in a face to face meeting.

Correct in that they weren't great but to say that to a bride with a hugely public wedding & family drama, not helpful imo. I pretty sure M knew there was an issue with them.

With Kate’s connections I’m sure something could have been done. Instead they got sent to a tailor

It could have been a situation where Meghan refused palace (and Kate’s) help with the wedding/bridesmaids dresses as she didn’t need their help as she had her own designers/networks!

Meghan of course went for the most expensive dresses she could possibly find (she wasn’t paying!). The dresses were a shitshow and Kate cried in frustration as she felt responsibility for helping with the wedding as she’d already gone though one herself. Understandable as post partum and dealing with a rude and abrasive character. Also the fact that Kate went along with no shoes/tights (which looked odd) shows she was trying to keep the peace.

The text exchange is a MOCK UP. I doubt Kate started a text with ‘dresses need to be remade’ with no preamble.

WinnieFosterReads · 10/01/2023 22:07

I wonder if Givenchy will comment. The implication is they messed up and had to pay the tailor to fix it. They should have been able to muster up someone from the company to oversee a royal wedding with an audience of millions fgs.

Check1Check2 · 10/01/2023 22:04

It wasn’t Kate’s wedding though was it. She needed to zip her mouth, so what if her over-privileged daughter’s dress didn’t fit properly? How pathetic of her, just shows how fake she is with ‘normal’ people pretending she understands. She hasn’t a clue.

It's Kate's child though. I wouldn't be sending my kid out in front of what, 600 people directly plus the world's cameras a) looking like shit and more importantly b) being upset

my kid isn't overpriviledged by little kids can get very upset over stuff like this. I'm sure Charlotte bursting in to tears half way down the aisle would have gone down a treat

The unsaid thing here is that Meghan paid for her wedding dress which has created hatred by Meghan haters. She paid for it, which meant it was the best she could afford. Who knows, maybe her budget was being spent on food instead of that extra top-up on the wedding dress.

I'm sure I read that Prince Charles had paid for it, it cost nearly 200 grand!

I'm no fan of Meghan but I thought she looked beautiful on her wedding day. I saw the dress on display at Windsor and it was simple but elegant. The veil was stunning - all the emblems of the Commonwealth (now renamed by H&M as Empire mark 2) embroidered on it. I thought she looked even more beautiful in the evening in her halter neck dress. Stunning.

I thought it seemed a tad too big. I loved the evening dress much more, that was amazing. She looked beautiful in both though, also not a fan, but I do have eyes and she is beautiful

I don't think we should be dragging a 3 year old into this and neither should have her uncle. As it happens I can imagine some 3 years placed in a flouncy dress might have a huff as 3 year olds are very entitled to do without it being any chastisement on their character.

Absolutely! When my dd was 3, she’d have been very quick to tell me if something wasn’t right with her clothes. Ironically now, when she orders things for herself, she’d rather trip over too long joggers than admit she got it wrong!

ethelredonagoodday · 10/01/2023 21:52

Ha ha ha! Me too, I'll be crossing them off my (non-existent) list...

Me too 🤣🤣🤣

Orangefir · 10/01/2023 22:09

I wonder @WinnieFosterReads
Meghans designer has left Givenchy bit not sure if she oversaw the flower girls

Stressfordays · 10/01/2023 22:09

I think its all been blown out of proportion. Kate panicked about the dress, Meghan had a lot on her plate and snapped back, both were upset and Kate apologised and sent flowers. I don't see why it needs to be mentioned at all?

Blueeyedgirl21 · 10/01/2023 22:09

Really mean to bring the little girl into it
already she’s being called spoiled etc
she was a toddler yes a royal one but can we leave the kids out of it

Internetstranger · 10/01/2023 22:09

Absolutely bizarre situation.

Why no fittings for the biggest wedding in the world that year?

Why did poor Ajay and his team have to work til 4am, 3 nights in a row, to fix someone else’s mistake?

Bizarre.

beeny · 10/01/2023 22:10

I can't believe how you all take against Meghan for everything

JudgeJ · 10/01/2023 22:10

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 21:25

The wedding date was announced in November 2017. Seems like plenty of notice to me.

They got married in May 2018!! I looked at venues & suppliers for my wedding & some were booked 18 months in advance!

Royal weddings are usually about 6 months after the engagement, they don't have to worry about venues being available etc.!

Bunnycat101 · 10/01/2023 22:11

It’s looking rubbish for Givenchy though isn’t it. if they can’t do a royal wedding well it’s not a great advert. By bringing all this up again they are basically slagging off Givenchy and if there is a story behind a breakdown in relationship that’ll get leaked nda or no nda.

Gingersay · 10/01/2023 22:11

I wonder if there was supposed to be 6 flowers girls and that's why the time wasn't spent on the dresses. There was only 5 bouquets and 5 flower crowns which was a bit odd. Looks to me like one was added last minute.

Hankunamatata · 10/01/2023 22:12

It's a standard wedding spat that has been over inflated and blown out of proportion.

Both were probably in tears. Meghan probably did have a hysterical crying fit as I know I would if my brisdesmaids dresses were a disaster.

TimeToFlyNow · 10/01/2023 22:12

I can just imagine what the press would have said if she'd had them all remade a few days before the wedding

And you can bet Kate wouldn't have come out and supported her

ancientgran · 10/01/2023 22:12

Check1Check2 · 10/01/2023 22:04

Then she'd have probably been critisised for not letting Meghan know there was a problem. I can see it now, "Kate knew the dresses were wrong, I think she was sniggering on the day as people were all commenting on it." I think one's as likely as the other, just like it is likely that they both cried, one a stressed bride one a new mum recovering from a difficult pregnancy and then childbirth.

WisteriaLodge · 10/01/2023 22:14

So am I right in Ajay doesn't work for Givenchy? He's an independent tailor fixing their cock up?

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 22:14

The knots people twist themselves into are unbelievable. I mean I'm not a huge fan but I'm not a idiot, she's no Rosemary West!
