https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11620179/Tailor-centre-Meghan-Kates-bridesmaid-dress-row-speaks-out.html

No surprises here. Days before the wedding the dresses didn’t fit. Couture gowns, made by Givenchy from measurements sent in. This tailor worked day and night but they had all six dresses to fix. It’s obvious they couldn’t get it all done. They really needed remade.

I think we can see why Kate was upset and why Charlottes dress and some of the other younger flower girls dresses looked awful.

For all we know, Kate also cried but she's not going to speak about it

I thought the press told us M made K cry?

They did. Then Meghan said no, she was the one that cried. Maybe Kate cried and Meghan did not know about it. I guess we can believe that Meghan cried since she said she did and Harry says he found her on the floor.

I don't think just because the media says something means it is true. And Kate is not going to go on Oprah and tell us her truth.

It’s not a random theory. It’s what was first reported and this gives credence to that

why would she need too? people already thought M made K cry.

debbrianna · 10/01/2023 21:56

The unsaid thing here is that Meghan paid for her wedding dress which has created hatred by Meghan haters. She paid for it, which meant it was the best she could afford. Who knows, maybe her budget was being spent on food instead of that extra top-up on the wedding dress.

Meghan looked gorgeous on the day but I thought she could have done with an extra fitting too.

It looked awful around the neckline, it didn't 'sit' properly.

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 21:56

I don't think just because the media says something means it is true.

That's not true for most of the population though

If Strictly can knock up outfits in a few weeks I'm sure a massive couture company could too.

Here speaks someone who doesn't understand the insane level of care that goes into couture stitiching. Couture work is a whole other galaxy it's so far away from knocked-up dresses for strictly.

StatisticallyChallenged · 10/01/2023 21:57

I feel for Ajay, it sounds like Givenchy royally (ha) cocked up.

Charlotte's dress was a poor fit post alteration though, it was obviously too much for them to get done.

I am quite surprised a 3 year old would be upset about the dress to be honest.

I used to be a wedding planner/wedding and events manager.

I have seen many a 3 year old cry over a dress/page boy outfit/kilt/button holes/not being in a bridal gown/ not having a colour dress they wanted/having to wear formal shoes

I mean I've also had many brides cry for various reasons also and the odd groom.

Weddings are stressful.😬

ShamedBySiri · 10/01/2023 21:57

Anyway, no one would even remember that this even happened if Harry and Meghan didn’t keep dredging up this shit over and over and over again!

Staggering that Givenchy did such a shoddy job.

Should have gone to Specsavers

My 4 yr old cried for 20mins last week because her new dress was to big and needed to be returned for a smaller size so i can well believe charlotte may have cried. She also once cried because her shoes didnt fit anymore

That’s interesting - my DS isn’t particularly interested in clothes so it didn’t make sense to me a 3/4 year old would be so upset about it but it depends on the personality.

I didn’t notice at the time but looking now you can see the bridesmaids’ dresses are baggy and don’t fit properly, especially compared to Pippa M’s bridesmaids’ dresses (absolutely hated Pippa’s pageboy outfits tho).

and i remember at the time thinking Meghan’s dress wasn’t flattering at all - the sleeves gaped and looked too short, the bodice wasn’t fitted and the fabric sat in a very heavy, inelegant way on her body and especially around the skirt.

Seems to corroborate Kate’s take and legitimise her reaction. He even explains what a big deal it was, on the world stage after all.

Kate might have received messages from the other mums, and they weren't as busy as Meghan and so exchanged texts, and she might have learnt that none of the dresses fitted.

How can you fit dresses when you are hundreds of miles away, though? With little ones growing rapidly, the wrong sizing was bound to happen.

canyoutellemehowtoget · 10/01/2023 22:00

This thread is baffling me.

If your SIL spends hundreds of thousands on a wedding dress plus bridesmaid dresses and it hasn't worked out then surely you approach that with sympathy.

People saying it gives 'credence' to Kate's side? What, her smacking Meghan over the head with it being disastrous?

Surely she could muster some empathy, no? Instead of barking out drama about a 3 year old crying because the dress didn't fit (I remember being three, I used to love clopping around in my mother's too big shoes and dresses).

Was there not a monsoon in Windsor?

My thought to, I've been to a couple of weddings where the little girls had Monsoon frocks and they fitted too.

Hollyhead · 10/01/2023 22:01

A bit pathetic that this issue happened with designer stuff. They’d have been nearer the mark with a John Lewis ‘age 5’ type job.

It's not exactly a random theory, is it? It's what was originally reported.

Orangefir · 10/01/2023 22:03

Wow @StatisticallyChallenged

That pic really shows the the mangled hemline.
I think they’ve taken in and up at the waist and it’s affected how the hem is sitting. There must have been too much fabric in the skirt.

which shows that it was beyond simple alterations, this was a cut and shut

The dresses needed remade. Kate was correct

Mine would absolutely cry over a far too big dress. Especially in what looks like quite stuff fabric. For her it's about it feeling wrong.

She went through a phase at hauling on the necks of some of her dresses. Couldn't figure why until I realised they were all the same bodice pattern and even though it fitted she didn't like where the neck was sitting. Slightly different position was fine. Kids can be fussy as hell!

confusedcentral5 · 10/01/2023 22:03

As if the dresses were ever going to come from Monsoon or John Lewis! There would be more chance of the Royal kids attending state schools 😆

Cath667 · 10/01/2023 22:03

I'm no fan of Meghan but I thought she looked beautiful on her wedding day. I saw the dress on display at Windsor and it was simple but elegant. The veil was stunning - all the emblems of the Commonwealth (now renamed by H&M as Empire mark 2) embroidered on it. I thought she looked even more beautiful in the evening in her halter neck dress. Stunning.

Check1Check2 · 10/01/2023 22:04

It wasn’t Kate’s wedding though was it. She needed to zip her mouth, so what if her over-privileged daughter’s dress didn’t fit properly? How pathetic of her, just shows how fake she is with ‘normal’ people pretending she understands. She hasn’t a clue.

Correct in that they weren't great but to say that to a bride with a hugely public wedding & family drama, not helpful imo. I pretty sure M knew there was an issue with them.
