No surprises here. Days before the wedding the dresses didn’t fit. Couture gowns, made by Givenchy from measurements sent in. This tailor worked day and night but they had all six dresses to fix. It’s obvious they couldn’t get it all done. They really needed remade.

I think we can see why Kate was upset and why Charlottes dress and some of the other younger flower girls dresses looked awful.

In the book they miss out a few texts - it’s completely contrived to make Kate look bad

Yup. It will be cherry picked.

The article doesn't vindicate Kate. On the contrary the text message exchange makes Kate look vindictive.

So so so glad to read this. 100%

Absolutely. No big deal - and certainly no need to make new dresses. Happens often - rushed last minute alterations. But leaked to the Daily Fail/Scum news to make Meghan look bad and create bad feeling between the. Just confirms everything Harry has said about the press. I'm reading the book and it's so clear that the press/mainstream media have plucked out odd sentances and embellished the meaning/context just to cause more hate. UK is horrible right now

You’ve clearly contributed to a thread you haven’t properly read. The more knowledgeable posts will inform you on how you are mistaken in regard to the dresses. It’s a long read but worth it.

Not sure why Kate thought it was relevant to tell Meghan that Charlotte cried. Or why Charlotte even cried in the first place?

@AliceOlive No one has ever said the girls feet hurt.
My DD has worn shoes without socks or tights and they have been fine. If shoes are well made and well fitted they are fine without anything. The shoes will have been hand made to fit.

Despite your definitive claim that they were “handmade to fit” they were not, they were from the children’s range of a high end shoe brand, as detailed here.

So why was Kate being vindictive, better for her not to say anything and let Meghan find out the dresses look shit on the day. Who was the person who decided that they didn't need a dress fitting until 4 days before the wedding. Bet it wasn't Kate. Why wasn't a dressmaker from the company available to adjust the dresses, that wasn't Kate's fault. It took a team 4 days to try and rectify the dresses, and still didn't mange to complete it correctly, and it wasn't just Charlotte's dress that needed changing.

MoscowMules · 11/01/2023 18:37

I fell asleep and then had a mega busy day in work. 🤣 But I'm here with my ex wedding planner knowledge lol because I'm bored.

Re the tights, we would often recommend flower girls have tights or pretty ankle socks, stops them complaining about the very tight formal shoes all day.

These aren't shoes they have "worn in" they are sometimes stiff leather, and they can rub. Children's feet come in all shapes and sizes width wise also, but the shoes don't. So anyone like myself who has a child with a wider foot than average are often met with cries of "no, they are too tight" by small children.

You also have the fact kids like to bend over a lot and unless you want your child's bloomers regularly on display a gusseted tight can offer some modesty.

Winter/spring weddings thick white/ivory, summer early autumn thin white/ivory or laced top ankle socks.

Kids are often more difficult to dress and keep happy than the adults. Though I have witnessed groomsmen argue about kilts that nearly came to fisticuffs 🤣 and adult women argue about spaghetti straps that ended in tears also 😬

CheshireCat1 · 11/01/2023 18:39

This is a complete comedy farce and as for the book, I’d prefer a good thriller.

Charlotte was THREE

Doesn't that alone give the reason of why she cried? Hmm

She also had a brand new brother. It was a time of change for her.

These are the boys that look slightly ‘off’ to me.

  • there’s a strange lump/gathering/weirdness under the armpit (sleeve been removed and reattached?)
  • there’s an odd gathering of fabric at the waistband, but only in this spot
  • the hem is all over the place

They've put it on a dummy which is bigger than Charlotte is I think. When it's on he it's even worse through the torso

How would it be better they were remade? They would've had to have had more fittings etc with not enough time. It would he normal to make them slightly bigger than make amendments.
Daily Fail as usual just wants to make Meghan look bad

Rinoachicken · 11/01/2023 19:05

I don’t think this is on Meghan or Kate tbh - I think the buck stops with the dressmakers (unless there’s more info we don’t know).

toomuchlaundry · 11/01/2023 19:05

@Mandyjack it makes the dress designer look worse!

Sugarfree23 · 11/01/2023 19:06

@StatisticallyChallenged I think it looks like it fits the dummy much better than it fitted Charlotte at the time.

In comparison to Kates flower girls posted up thread Kates look much neater.

toomuchlaundry · 11/01/2023 19:06

Although who thought only 1 dress fitting would be enough is also at fault if that wasn't the dress designer

Ace7 · 11/01/2023 19:13

Harrysfrostbittentodger · 10/01/2023 20:47

I don’t understand why people are all up in arms about this.

Kate, a mother of three with a newborn (3 weeks postpartum) was stressing because her daughter’s dress didn’t fit and her child was upset about it. She knew that she and all the other girls would be on the world stage and would be judged.

Meghan is planning the wedding of the year, millions upon millions will be watching and she’s got a lot more to focus on than just bridesmaids’ dresses. Her family are also making a spectacle of themselves and she is unsure if her father is walking her down the aisle. She is also majorly stressed.

They are both curt with each other. In the text messages, both are rude to each other. Meghan cried. Harry is sure that Kate didn’t intend to make Meghan cry and just assumes that emotions are running high. Kate takes accountability and apologies with a gift. Meghan said Kate did everything that she would have done in the same situation.

The only problem is that it was leaked to the press and a false narrative was created. That’s all they wanted to correct.

This is a very sound, reasonable assessment.

Several explanations upthread as to why this isn't the case. Unpicking silk, for a start...

They've definitely use a dummy which is wider than Charlotte which is making it look better

Neckline is uneven and the pleats the sleeve head look set in at different heights.

Blueseasky · 11/01/2023 19:37

The text exchange really shows Kate’s nasty SIL side that the public didn’t know about. She needn’t demand dresses remade 4 days before the wedding, she could have been more empathetic to the situation and look for solutions with the bride rather than giving her hell over ill fitted dresses.

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 11/01/2023 19:37

I doubt the dress would win Garment of the week on the Sewing Bee.
