No surprises here. Days before the wedding the dresses didn’t fit. Couture gowns, made by Givenchy from measurements sent in. This tailor worked day and night but they had all six dresses to fix. It’s obvious they couldn’t get it all done. They really needed remade.

I think we can see why Kate was upset and why Charlottes dress and some of the other younger flower girls dresses looked awful.

Kate also has the perfect figure to make clothes look fantastic. She's tall, slim and entirely in proportion. Meghan doesn't have a waist like Kate's which makes a difference to how clothes look.

I think Kate looks way too skinny lately, but I'd be happy to have either of their figures! Unfortunately I look more like one of the corgis after Christmas Blush

Yes they are, which I think shows that maybe everyone just needs to take this whole situation with a large pinch of salt. Nobody will ever know the whole truth about what happened amongst all this mess. Regardless of press, and book releases.

Eugenie can clearly manage a relationship with them all, RF and H&M. So be more like Eugenie 🤣🤣🤣 find middle ground maybe guys?

I'll be fair though, this has been the most balanced thread I've been on, as it really has just revolved around the dresses and how shit the fashion house was.

so agree with you re the balance of the thread
makes a nice change

Oh interesting, thank you! So would you call thicker tights, tights in America?

Yes, all tights, we always called tights. Super thick and no feet we call leggings.

this seems to match my experience:

@Orangefir That thread is such a load of nonsense.

Why is it a load of nonsense @BradfordGirl

Sugarfree23 · 11/01/2023 00:52

I can totally get a 3 yo being upset over a dress. Scratchy, too big, too tight, label in the wrong place, just not feel right.

I read Kate also suggested socks for the flower girls as a compromise to bare feet and the worry about shoes rubbing.

I wonder too if Meghan would allow her own DD to be seen in front of millions in an ill fitting dress or want to take the risk of a strop because shoes are rubbing.

I don’t understand why people are all up in arms about this.

Kate, a mother of three with a newborn (3 weeks postpartum) was stressing because her daughter’s dress didn’t fit and her child was upset about it. She knew that she and all the other girls would be on the world stage and would be judged.

Meghan is planning the wedding of the year, millions upon millions will be watching and she’s got a lot more to focus on than just bridesmaids’ dresses. Her family are also making a spectacle of themselves and she is unsure if her father is walking her down the aisle. She is also majorly stressed.

They are both curt with each other. In the text messages, both are rude to each other. Meghan cried. Harry is sure that Kate didn’t intend to make Meghan cry and just assumes that emotions are running high. Kate takes accountability and apologies with a gift. Meghan said Kate did everything that she would have done in the same situation.

The only problem is that it was leaked to the press and a false narrative was created. That’s all they wanted to correct.

Agree entirely!

But have they corrected it? The tailor is the one who had broken the news about having to spend 4 days sorting the dresses. Seems Kate was right that there was something seriously wrong with the dresses and not just Charlotte’s

Ridemeginger · 11/01/2023 01:02

Oh look, the bots are getting their sites mixed up.

LuluBlakey1 · 11/01/2023 01:05

Possibly because the bridesmaids were not all in England but probably because it was just not organised properly. Partly the bride to blame and partly Givenchy who should have has people available to sort that out however long it took. Poor show.

They still didn't fit- the sleeves were an awful shape and far too big and badly cut and the bodices were still not properly fitted.

Indeed for a team of taylors to take days sorting out 6 small dresses, unless they were sewing with their toes, the only reasonable explanation could be "the dresses were fucked"

I think the whole bridesmaid drama has been blown way out of proportion. I can see why the palace never got involved, it turned into and still is a she said, she did, she said situation 🤦🏻‍♀️

They really should have just let it die a death.

Ericaequites · 11/01/2023 01:40

Who took the measurements? If you don’t, you may not know how to measure a fidgety child accuratelyAccurate measurements are essential Al for a proper toile. Givenchy may not have taken the measurements. A seamstress or tailor should have done it. Grandma England’s dresser would have been another good choice.

Ericaequites · 11/01/2023 01:43

Marks and Spencer carries very pretty and appropriate frilled socks. Couldn’t have someone be sent to buy some quickly?

aloris · 11/01/2023 01:45

I think if it's the tradition for little girls at Royal Fam events to wear tights then Meghan should have allowed the flower girls to wear tights. When in Rome, do as the romans. This becoming a sticking point makes it look as if Meghan was unwilling to learn about royal protocol.

This would tend to fit with the description that Meghan gives that she went in for a hug first thing when meeting Kate/William, and hence offended them. There's nothing wrong with being a hugger but I think hugging someone you just met is overkill. It's a bit dominating even if you do it to just a regular person, as it shows an unwillingness to listen to whether the person you are hugging will be uncomfortable. Would it have been all that impossible for Meghan to see things from William's POV and realize that, until he knows her well, she's one more person who might leak very personal things about him? Of course William would be reserved around Meghan until he knows her better!

That said, from the POV of William and Kate, they're meeting Harry's beau for the first time, I would think good manners would dictate they make Meghan feel welcome to the country and to the family and it kinda seems like they didn't. They must have known the UK Royal Family would be a dreadful culture shock to her and that she would feel very isolated in that environment. Even with the most generous interpretation I can make of their choices, they come off as rather cold fish.

And coming to the crux of the problem, if these people really do curtesy to their "superior" family members in private, no wonder Meghan got out of there as fast as possible. Meghan is an American. We're all equal here. She could be president of the USA if she got elected. To go from that, to curtseying to other men and women just because of accidents of birth, that would really stick in one's craw.

The problem with the fit of the flower girls dresses was created by the person responsible for overseeing the making, fitting, and alterations of those dresses. I don't know if we'll ever know who that person was. Was it a palace staff member, someone at Givenchy, Meghan herself? Oh, who cares, let's move on.

Could have but Meghan apparently didn't want socks or tights.
She got her way but no other Royal Wedding are the kids barefoot. And I can totally see why Kate would stress over the thought of her DD being uncomfortable or sore at a huge event.

Ridemeginger · 11/01/2023 01:56

Where were the wedding planners? The dressers? The PAs? Advisors? A £20m, globally televised wedding, and it's left to the stressed out bride, stressed out new mum and a local tailor (no disrespect to Ajay - he's clearly a star) to sort out a complete mess by a major couture house. I just don't get how this happened.

@Sugarfree23 My family’s feet sweat a lot,and socks protect shoes. Socks also look more finished, but it’s what my sister and I wore as a child.
