No surprises here. Days before the wedding the dresses didn’t fit. Couture gowns, made by Givenchy from measurements sent in. This tailor worked day and night but they had all six dresses to fix. It’s obvious they couldn’t get it all done. They really needed remade.

I think we can see why Kate was upset and why Charlottes dress and some of the other younger flower girls dresses looked awful.

I’m guessing the dresses were originally maxis.

I doubt it. The bridesmaids were far too young to manage long dresses. Ballerina length is perfect for that age group

AliceOlive · 11/01/2023 00:08

Maybe there was some good old fashioned American / British confusion about what tights are 😂

Maybe, not so much American but California + age gap.

I grew up always wearing tights but am older than Meghan and from the south.

Orangefir · 11/01/2023 00:11

I agree, tights would look much better.

I know on the continent, that sometimes girls wear formal dresses with shoes and no tights/no socks. Some of the euro royal children have appeared like this at formal occassions.

But here in the UK, just seems odd.

@StatisticallyChallenged So I agree that Kate's clothes usually fit well, but she tends to wear coat dresses which I find myself tend to be easier to fit well than some other styles. She chooses some nice coat dresses, but I think she is too fond of fussy features like bows, frills and buttons that distract from an elegant look. It also makes the dresses look more old fashioned than they could look.

But I also sympathise with Kate because I think she dressed better before the Queen told her off. The Queen appeared to have rather old fashioned views on dress, unsurprising in a woman of her age. Kate dressed younger and was more experimental, so some outfits really hit the mark and some didn't. But she looked younger and more in touch.

BradfordGirl · 11/01/2023 00:14

I think it is all a storm in a tea cup.

But personally I hate tights in tiny children unless they are thick winter tights. It just smacks of trying to dress up tiny children in uncomfortable adult clothes. Ghastly and I would not have wanted my DD at 3 to wear denier tights.

Lol. These threads. You people. Absolutely ridiculous.

If Meghan and Harry said the sky was blue, you'd start a thread about how gauche it was of them to dictate to you what colours things are. Mad.

You people

😂 I imagine you like to use ‘you do realise’ on a regular basis too. There’s a lot of different viewpoints on these threads.

I more meant the name though - I don’t think they’re called tights in America (pantyhose?) but may be wrong.

Do you think Harry knew that bringing this up in his book would cause this kind of insane shitshow on social media?

BradfordGirl · 11/01/2023 00:17

@AliceOlive Probably. He probably knows that people attack him and Meghan for batshit reasons.

Not sure I've ever said that, to be honest but OK! Great insight!

Yep, they are tights.

Pantyhose are nylons or stockings. (I heard all of these words growing up. I think stockings were technically the kind of hose used with garters).

Kate also has the perfect figure to make clothes look fantastic. She's tall, slim and entirely in proportion. Meghan doesn't have a waist like Kate's which makes a difference to how clothes look.

I suspect they are happy then to be discussed “attacked” no matter if it’s positive or negative.

She did look lovely. She always seems very sweet, and they're good friends with Harry and Meghan, aren't they. So that's nice.

Yes they are, which I think shows that maybe everyone just needs to take this whole situation with a large pinch of salt. Nobody will ever know the whole truth about what happened amongst all this mess. Regardless of press, and book releases.

Eugenie can clearly manage a relationship with them all, RF and H&M. So be more like Eugenie 🤣🤣🤣 find middle ground maybe guys?

I'll be fair though, this has been the most balanced thread I've been on, as it really has just revolved around the dresses and how shit the fashion house was.

I'm pretty maximalist so i love bows, buttons etc. But I'm less fussed about elegance and more about enjoying what i wear

That said, some things go too far - someone keep her away from Erdem, for god sake

Maybe she'll very gradually ease up on the coat dresses now that the queen has gone?

I think coat dresses suit Kate's figure. I have seen her wear a few things though that makes everything look droopy and not good. Being slim makes it easier to find clothes that look good on you, but not everything looks good. Some clothes you do need a bigger bust or wider hips for.

Meghan does clearly have a waist but she does have a different body shape - not willowy. She really suits trousers. She is slim though and she has sometimes worn things that seem to swamp her. It all just looks too much.

Orangefir · 11/01/2023 00:32

Agree the coat dresses are getting a bit tired but she does look great in them.

Did you see her in the vintage Chanel blazer? I would love to see her in some vintage skirt suits, she would look amazing.

Also at some point, I must start a thread about what she will wear to the coronation (I’m wanting something Bridgertonesqe!)

OP posts:
ArseInTheDogBowl · 11/01/2023 00:34

@Orangefir I can't wait to see what she wears to the coronation.

I thought she looked stunning in the gold Jenny Packham dress at the Bond premiere. That was probably my favourite look of hers.

Ridemeginger · 11/01/2023 00:35

I think Harry is despicable dragging Charlotte into this rubbish.

But, as to all the surprise at her crying: she'll have had to get formally dressed up and be aware of having to look very properly turned out more than most 3 year olds. She'd probably have been aware that she looked funny in a very loose dress and picked up on her mother's unhappiness with this. The badly made original may have also been uncomfortable. It's really not beyond the imagination for her to have been upset.

Orangefir · 11/01/2023 00:35

She looked amazing at the bond premiere. I’m not the biggest fan of the Jenny packham dresses, sometimes they look a bit prom like. But she nailed it with the gold one

Oh interesting, thank you! So would you call thicker tights, tights in America?

PicturesOfDogs · 11/01/2023 00:38

Kitcaterpillar · 10/01/2023 23:43

Because there's no malice intended. If someone hugs you, because they're a hugger, all that's happened is two people with mismatched social expectations have met. It's something in life everyone is aware of - everyone feels the anxiety of 'are we handshaking? Are we kissing? Oh god, we're kissing, are we doing both sides?'.

If I met my sibling's new partner and we had an awkward hug-shake-kiss moment, I would never think of it again. Because I'm a normal person. Unlike, it seems, William and Kate.

This doesn’t make sense.
They are not the ones bringing it up.
There was never a news story ‘briefed’ about an awkward bug, was there?

H&M are the ones who have brought this into the public domain.
They are the ones who clearly ‘thought of it again’, yet W&K who have never mentioned the story, are the ones who aren’t normal?
I’m confused…

She did look good in that. And it was notably about 100 times more flashy than what she normally wears. Not literally because of all the sequins, but...oh, you know what I mean. It was significantly more Met Gala than State dinner.

For all we know, Kate also cried but she's not going to speak about it. I don't think we can trust that Harry is a reliable narrator at this point.

Why can't we? Which part of anything he has said do you think is a lie/has been proven to be a lie? As far as I am aware nothing.
