No surprises here. Days before the wedding the dresses didn’t fit. Couture gowns, made by Givenchy from measurements sent in. This tailor worked day and night but they had all six dresses to fix. It’s obvious they couldn’t get it all done. They really needed remade.

I think we can see why Kate was upset and why Charlottes dress and some of the other younger flower girls dresses looked awful.

Maybe @Orangefir is Scottish?

Perfectly normal dialect.

It was me, and I am.

The children looked fine but the dresses looked more BHS children’s bridesmaids range (in lovely fabric) than couture. It sounds like the tailor and his team are the only reason the children had anything to wear at all.

My bridesmaid had a BHS dress which fitted perfectly and looked lovely. It looked infinitely better than the Givenchy botches which looked as if they were run up by someone’s inept auntie.

@MoscowMules I agree, Eugenie looked perfect. Her hair, makeup, tiara, the stunning dress (which fit perfectly). The bridesmaids dresses fit properly too 😁

I mean just look at the glory 🥰 I could easily start a thread on how much I adore Eugenie though 🤣 not weird at all whatsoever hahaha.

Why couldn't William and Kate lighten up and act like a normal couple in their 30s (40s?) meeting their brothers new girlfriend? The younger Royals seem to want us to view them as normal people. The European royal families certainly manage it.

I reckon I would be a bit restrained too if I were in their position.
After all, you would need to protect yourself because you don’t know if that person is going to go running to the talk shows, or write a book that includes you.

And with tights. I love Eugenie too. I wonder what she’s making of all this.

Because there's no malice intended. If someone hugs you, because they're a hugger, all that's happened is two people with mismatched social expectations have met. It's something in life everyone is aware of - everyone feels the anxiety of 'are we handshaking? Are we kissing? Oh god, we're kissing, are we doing both sides?'.

If I met my sibling's new partner and we had an awkward hug-shake-kiss moment, I would never think of it again. Because I'm a normal person. Unlike, it seems, William and Kate.

There is no malice intended by my not hugging so why am I expected to have my personal space invaded to make the hugger happy, rather than them just refrain from invading my personal space and making me feel really uncomfortable to make them happy?

AliceOlive · 10/01/2023 23:53

Kitcaterpillar · 10/01/2023 23:26

That's fine. You can find it awkward. But it's just an awkward hug, it isn't someone taking a shit on your living room floor.

Right, but we have no idea what W&K really thought or felt. Only what H&M say.
Kate made a face when asked for lipgloss? Can I tell you how many times my own husband says “what’s wrong” based on some look on my face that has zilch to do with what’s going on in the room? Or because I have an upset stomach?

Oh do because I was off mn at the time and I have a question about her wedding

She did look lovely. She always seems very sweet, and they're good friends with Harry and Meghan, aren't they. So that's nice.

Your original point was 'outside the UK, people hardly know who they are' which was obviously ridiculous.

Stand by it. ‘ Hardly know’ doesn’t mean not a sole.

Kitcaterpillar · 10/01/2023 23:57

Lol. These threads. You people. Absolutely ridiculous.

If Meghan and Harry said the sky was blue, you'd start a thread about how gauche it was of them to dictate to you what colours things are. Mad.

LearnerCook · 10/01/2023 23:57

Catherine knows the value of properly tailored clothes that fit correctly. Even high street gear looks fantastic if it's tailored to the wearer.
She clearly recognised that the dresses were all but unwearable.

Meghan could've done with watching & learning from Catherine and the other royal women. Sometimes Meghan's clothes didn't even look ironed let alone fitted.

Pixiedust1234 · 10/01/2023 23:58

What I'm getting from this is that Ajay and his team are superstars, whoever made the dresses did a bad job, whoever decided that fittings weren't required was a knobhead, and that Kate, Charlotte and Meghan all probably cried (dont blame them tbh).

What I'm not seeing is how many of the dresses needed doing and did they all have the same amount of work done. Or was it just Charlotte's that was horrendously bad to the point that the Superstars couldn't fix it?

Orangefir · 10/01/2023 23:59

Both Pippa’s flower girls and Eugenies wore Pepa and co dresses. They are absolutely beautiful. Follow the Spanish style of having a very neat fit. Kate who has dressed Charlotte in Spanish dresses, probably had this style of fit in mind which may also added to the stress.

I thought Meghan's dress was fantastic. Actually, both of them were. If I was having a massive problem with my Dad in the full glare of the media 4 days before the wedding of the year, I wouldn't really care about a 3 year old's dress either. If you have a 3 yo being a bridesmaid, you take your child crying (and probably quite overwhelmed with any practice, etc) on, not the bride. Because you were the one who said yes.

But it's absolutely ridiculous that this is still being talked about (WTF Harry?!) 6 years later. Especially considering what happened globally over the last 3 years.

pelargoniums · 10/01/2023 21:28

Does no one else think all the flower girls looked absolutely fine? I thought the oversize cut was part of the concept, who wants to shove little girls into uncomfortable formalwear? Like poor old George in his weird frock coat thing.

Yes I did too

as they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder

I find the dresses at the other wedding very twee, e.g didn’t like them at Eugenie's wedding ( thought the bride looked stunning though)

also hate the white tights look, loved my own child in flower girl dresses mid calf bare legged, would have disliked her look with tights ( though would have gone along with that if requested )

i thought everyone looked lovely on the day and loved Meghan’s evening look

toomuchlaundry · 11/01/2023 00:00

@Kitcaterpillar Kate was trying to sort it by telling Meghan the dresses needed to be remade. She could see how bad they were. If it took a team of tailors 4 days working round the clock to try and sort them and Charlotte’s still didn’t fit and had a wonky hem how bad were they to start with. Kate knew the eyes of the world would be looking at them. She couldn’t arrange for them to be remade.

But like other posters I am amazed this was the first fitting, no expert from the designers available to make any tweaks and no wedding planner to sort out the crisis.

BradfordGirl · 11/01/2023 00:00

@LearnerCook Kate and Meghan have very different styles. I prefer what Kate used to wear before she was told off by the Queen. But what she wears now is a very tailored and quite an old look. It looks very formal which is why the Queen approved. Meghan seems to prefer simpler clothes for formal wear - no buttons or bows just a plain simple dress, and a more modern casual look for every day.

ItWasDobbinAtTheMareAndSpare · 11/01/2023 00:01

I think having the dresses remade by another designer’s people though would have been really awkward given the profile of the wedding. All that stuff is credited to the designer - the minute she walked out in her dress there were a thousand articles written and mentions on the news coverage. Imagine if CWK’s posts had to have disclaimers on them about the bridesmaids dresses etc - could another designer even copy the design from a legal perspective etc etc. it’s interesting though as none of it actually does seem to be about the tights. Maybe there was some good old fashioned American / British confusion about what tights are 😂

Usernamesarboring · 11/01/2023 00:02

horrificbiology · 10/01/2023 21:36

@Rinoachicken That is what I was thinking as well when I read the texts. I thought why would a 3 year old be upset about the dress, they would just be happy to be a flower girl / bridesmaid. It's an adult thing for the dress to be "right".

Well, you havent seen the dress. If it was huge and lot of fabric hanging, it is possible for a kid to not want to wear, not becaue of how it looks but becaue very loose clothes can be uncomfortable too.

Charlotte seems like a kid who would tell right away if she doesnt like something. When I was a kid, I didn't like uncomfortable clothes too, I hated sleeves bunching up under a coat.

But I think you might not like Kate and hence insinuating that she lied about Charlotte crying.

Meant to add props to the tailor for working so hard to deliver

BradfordGirl · 11/01/2023 00:04

I think the whole tights story was made up.

StatisticallyChallenged · 11/01/2023 00:05

Kate's style can be a bit dull at times - she has some lovely outfits but soooo many coat dresses. Meghan is more adventurous and has some real wins, but some fails too. However Meghan frequently wears outfits which are ill fitting which often spoils them, which is something Kate rarely does.

They could both have learned from each other, in different circumstances.

AliceOlive · 11/01/2023 00:06

I think the tights would absolutely be an issue, both for comfort of the little girls and because the Queen would not like the bare legs.

BradfordGirl · 11/01/2023 00:07

@StatisticallyChallenged I think Camilla is the best dresser out of the lot of them. Her clothes are too old for Meghan and Kate. But she consistently chooses elegant clothes that flatter her figure and are not too fussy. She either has a good eye for clothes or a good stylist.
