Kate you are playing a blinder, keep schtum & keep having the stiff upper lip. The queen would be so proud of you & William right now.
Your silence is speaking volumes. If someone I barely knew attempted to hug me, I would recoil, it's not appropriate as is overfamiliarity.

She's doing the job she is supposed to do that's funded by the British Taxpayer. You don't join the royal family it you can't adhere to the rules. Most people would be entirely unsuitable for the job Kate does with such elegance & ease.
Keeping calm, silent & appropriate is much harder to do as H&M are demonstrating with all the interviews & publishing private text messages.
