The royal family

Anyone else thinks it telling MM had no family besides her mum at the wedding, no exes & she's no longer talking to ex bff & her bridesmaid Jessica Mulroany?

Anyone else think it's telling Meghan only had Doria at the wedding? No other family member!
None of her exes were there, Harry invited Chelsea & Cressida & both attended.
Before Harry Meghan & her stylist & bff Jessica Mulroany were inseparable, now they don't talk. Coincidently Jessica was part of the top echelons of Canadian society so did Meghan no longer need her friendship when she married the Prince of England?

No one knows why they didn't meet ahead of time. IMO, Meghan was a grown adult divorced woman and didn't need her father's permission to date or marry. Though, I understand that people think they should have at least met in person. This aspect really should not be anyone else's business IMO.

The question I have is, why wasn't TM already in the UK 4 days before the wedding? Not that it matters.

Kateforqueen · 11/01/2023 19:54

But surely that's a red flag @onlylarkin . I can picture William "Harold for peets sake, you have never even met her father don't you think this marriage is a bit rushed"

I’m not at all suggesting that a woman needs her father’s permission to date or marry. But it strikes me as odd to be marrying someone who has never met your closest family.

Especially when you have unlimited time/money to travel etc

onlylarkin · 11/01/2023 20:22

It's not a red flag to me. Because I do not know why they never met. They had spoken on the phone.

Could it be that TM didn't want to leave his home tontravel to the UK ahead of the time? (If, for example Harry's schedule was such he couldn't leave).

Maybe Harry couldn't go into Mexico. Then drug gangs are horrible, so it may have been a security nightmare.

The problem is, we do not know the why. Just that they had not met and the press turned it into something bad and now tons of people in the UK use it against her. Judgement about something we do not know the full story of and, frankly, was none of our business at the time or now.

He himself never said he had a heart attack. And people have come out of the woodwork, he was photographed on a day he was supposed to be in the hospital. That he supposedly had a heart attack has never been confirmed by anyone, not him, not even a hospital.

He apparently produced hospital bills as proof.

Do you have proof of a photo taken on the day? And if so, is there proof it was after the alleged heart attack and not before?

I have been on MN for years.
The consensus is generally that if a member of your family is toxic you go NC or very LC, even if that family member is a parent.
This man betrayed his own child on a number of occasions . Selling his story for money and castigating his daughter and her husband at every given opportunity.
I absolutely believe her when she says that she tried to call her father on several occasions. I really do believe that she wanted her father to walk her down the aisle.
I can’t believe that anyone can condone or excuse her father’s ‘ behaviour.
Meghan is expected to put up with all the crap thrown at her because her detractors dislike her. Her father paid for her education, so she is supposed to put up with abuse and lies
I thought it was common knowledge that he didn’t have a heart attack. As others have pointed out, he was photographed eating junk food when he was supposedly in hospital
I actually pity her father, he is so going to regret his actions. He has lost his daughter because of his selfishness, greed and insecurity.
My prediction is that he will eventually turn against those who encouraged him to betray his own child.

No, it’s not common knowledge. She tried to call him, he says he was in hospital at the time having had a heart attack, so perfectly reasonable not to reply. I haven’t yet seen any proof that he was photographed while he says he was in hospital. After the texts with him saying sorry he was an inconvenience for having a heart attack (which, granted, was a bit sarcastic and immature), he was not able to contact her for months as she wasn’t answering her phone and wouldn’t contact him before he finally complained about that in the press. He hasn’t said anything terrible about her, unlike Harry with is own family, so I think she must be very cold-hearted to have cut him out of her life when she was singing his praises not long before meeting Harry. It’s as if they have both caught some mind altering bitterness disease.

onlylarkin · 11/01/2023 21:01

@Lampzade TM already has. There is a restraining order against him from the "journalist" who started this debacle.

I think you need to go and do some research.

See, I didn’t even know this.
Why am I not surprised?

@Kateforqueen
of course Harry didn’t publish private text messages! If you read the articles where the messages were quoted it quite clearly says they are ‘based on’ what Harry said happened between Kate and Meghan. The newspapers presented the fake messages to look like real ones.

RedAndBlueStripedGolfingUmbrella · 12/01/2023 02:18

No, I don't think it's telling ( not in the sense you do, anyway)
Telling as in her mum was the one who was there for her though.
Not staging fake photos to flog to the press, or emotionally blackmailing, or selling stories /saying their piece on you.
Also, why would you want any exes at your wedding?;
That has the potential to be totally weird and awks 😁

The thicko's have all fallen for it though, scary that some of these people breed 😑

This is such a load of nonsense and really tells me that people have no idea how dysfunctional families work.

Take my story as an example. I was born into a very difficult situation, my parents were unmarried teenagers who had already broken up when my mother found out she was pregnant with me. It was the 1970s so it was scandalous and my mother’s parents threw her out - and me as well, obviously. She was supported by my father’s parents until she married my stepfather. Her parents then reconciled with her as she was respectable and everything from the past was not to be talked about. My paternal grandparents were virtually pushed out of my life, I was barely allowed to see them and wasn’t allowed to ask anything about my father who had moved abroad anyway. Sadly, my mother is horribly abusive, she hated my father but was madly in love with him at the same time and still is. My childhood with her was horrible. I tried to talk to her mother (my grandmother) about it and she just shut me down and told me what a wonderful mother I had. Eventually, as I had no other options, I left home at 15 and went to live with my paternal grandparents. All my mother’s family cut me off as a result as she demanded total loyalty from them. So I have no family on that side through no fault of my own.

My father’s family has a lot of mental health problems. My grandparents were wonderful people but the wider family is pretty dysfunctional. My grandmother (who was very different from the rest of them) was treated as the black sheep and her children and grandchildren were virtually ignored. My uncle (father’s brother) inherited the mental health problems and kept his children away from other relatives so I never knew my cousins. As a result, I have few family members I could drum up to a wedding. So while you sit there judging and sneering at someone for not having many relatives around them maybe have a think about how sad that might be for someone and how it may be because of circumstances completely beyond their control.

I’m a republican and no massive Meghan Markle fan but I really felt for her in the run up to her wedding when her father and his awful family kept selling stories about her. I was lucky enough to marry a lovely man and get his warm, loving family in the process who basically adopted me. MM, on the other hand, seemed to jump out of the frying pan and into the fire.

miri1985 · 12/01/2023 04:17

I thought this part of the book was really interesting. Meghan and her Father talked weekly but it was about the lighting on Suits. Now this is Harry recounting conversations he didn't hear about but surely there can't be much new to say every week about lighting.

Its a shame that they're estranged now because of all that happened. I didn't understand from the book how it went from close and coming to the wedding to, he sold some photos and then isn't mentioned again until the letter thing. Surely you'd think if anyone could understand being manipulated by the media it would be Harry

Anyone else thinks it telling MM had no family besides her mum at the wedding, no exes & she's no longer talking to ex bff & her bridesmaid Jessica Mulroany?

I watched that TV interview TM did when he said 'time to look after Daddy' and it made my stomach turn. He reminded me very much of my narc father and I said as much to DH at the time. I would not be at all surprised if MM was not as close as she says. He's a wrongun.

He is definitely a wrongun.
He is a manipulative pos. I don’t know why anyone would defend him.
The fact that there is a restraining order against him speaks volumes

Merrymouse · 12/01/2023 07:11

This just makes me think about the Queen’s wedding - tbe uncle who couldn’t attend because they were all NC, the groom’s sisters who weren’t invited because they were German.

The big difference with Meghan’s family is that you couldn’t look them up on the royal family tree. (Although, as with Obama, Brad Pitt and Danny Dyer, it’s just a question of going back far enough).

StarbucksSmarterSister · 12/01/2023 14:31

I agree, but TM was an award winning lighting director. I imagine he'd think there was.
