It is great to live in 2023 and read how people actually describe being HUMBLE as a positive trait in a modern woman. Hopefully she also understands to walk two steps behind her husband and to never contradict anyone. Yikes!

I actually used the word as she was not trying to speak over experts in the field. Nor was she opposed to hearing differing points of view from a multitude of people.

So yes, she was humble, because she wanted to listen and learn different points of view, backed up with evidence.

Not sure how that is a bad thing? If anything it shows maturity and self awareness.

@Kateforqueen I agree, but in defence of Vogue Williams, she's gone down a commercial route but she's fairly middle class and has never that I can recall mentioned pippa or james matthews.. Vogue's family architects and QS and she was encouraged her in to the same field. She went to Santa Sabina which is a well-known private school in Dublin and it considers itself a cut above buttermilk, ha ha. She went to on to get a decent raft of professional qualifications in the field of QS. Her family were not like ''get your legs out love''.

You can go down that commercial route without talking about anybody other than your own immediate family. I doubt Pippa is worried that Vogue will chat about that branch of the Matthews family.

Pippa cannot really seriously judge Vogue as at one point, Pippa was asked to rein it in as she had attempted to launch herself as a party planner. At the time I felt for her that it was shut right down. She was in an unusual situation.

Can we get some inside intel on Kate's hair care regimen please?
She does have beautiful hair! I know it's genetic and brilliant hairdresser on call etc. But I'm still curious.

It’s extensions and money, not genetics.

I’m not sure you understand what the word humble means.
It means being modest and grateful and not showing off about your privileges / achievements / talents etc.
Men can be humble in exactly the same way as women.

Are you confusing Humble with Meek?

maranella · 11/01/2023 13:54

My DSis has met Wills and Kate through her work and said they were both lovely - very down to Earth, friendly and relaxed. They visited unofficially as they have a connection to DSis's workplace and she said they stayed ages and chatted.

I know the person who was involved in making fascinators for the Middleton women when Kate was engaged/girlfriend.

Kate pleasant and polite
Pippa quite stuck up
Carole rude and demanding

This nails it.

BMW6 · 11/01/2023 14:03

Being described as Humble is very complimentary. Wish more people had this characteristic (especially those with real power and influence).

I know excactly what humble means and I find it truly horrible that anyone should act "modest and grateful and not showing off". All women everywhere should always be proud of their achievements and let their light shine and state their opinions. Especially gratefulness is something that should never be required from anyone.

Thanks for the Irish perspective, so Vogue was privately educated too?
She's an open book but never ever mentions the Matthews except for Spenny of course.. One would never guess her sil is the future Queen consorts sister. The Middleton's & Matthews have behaved impeccably as regards to protecting the rfs privacy.

The accusation of ''new rich'' is just so pathetic. The Middletons spent their money on bricks and education.

If the worst thing Carol has ever done is ask for an extra till to be opened at Waitrose then that's just funny. She needs to get stoned with Harry. Take Ayauasca.

I'm sure I read that the Middleton's were able to afford to send their children to public school due to an educational trust set up by a forebear several generations back.

HangoverSquare · 11/01/2023 14:36

Kateforqueen · 10/01/2023 23:55

❤️Carole. And why shouldn't she have heirs, she birthed the future queen consort ffs & her Grandchildren are all in line to the throne. More reason than most to have airs!

Are you the person who started the gushy love letter to Kate thread?

I’m now even more convinced you don’t understand the meaning!!

ChocChipOwl · 11/01/2023 14:49

Yes! I met Carole Middleton about 10 years ago

I worked in the Newbury branch of Waitrose and she was renowned in there for being really rude.

She marched up to me and barked 'mascarpone'

I said 'yes? Would you like to know if we have any?' and she said 'just go and get me two pots and leave at the service desk. I haven't got all day' and walked off

Another time she was tearing a strip off the manager - something to do with a Christmas Turkey

She's just rude and sneery. That's all I remember of her on the odd time she popped into store

Well this is an exact quote from your post : "It means being modest and grateful and not showing off". Do try to make up your mind.

CaroleandMikesNeighbour · 11/01/2023 15:00

Named changed for this as it’s a bit outing. I live about half a mile from the Middletons. Got a lot of stories, but the thing about the neighbours is we don’t talk about them. Mike slows down when he passes me on my horse and always gives a cheery wave, but I’ve never spoken to him.

Aftersevens · 11/01/2023 15:01

Yes, being modest does not preclude this.
I think perhaps you’re confusing modest with meek?
Especially gratefulness is something that should never be required from anyone.
Really? So you don’t think people should be grateful for a good education? Good health? A good family?

You've got to live us more than that especially after name changing! @caroleandmikesneighbour

I've met Pippa. I handmade her something actually and then she never paid me. It wasn't a huge amount so not worth chasing, and I probably got more from publicity than she owed me, but it annoyed me because she said she'd pay and she didn't.

That was really shitty of her. It's always those with the most money who pull these underhand tactics. She probably thought the honour of making something for her was payment enough...

catwithflowers · 11/01/2023 15:09

Couldn't have put it better. I am grateful for so many things in my life.

@Elisabetty you can be proud of achievements, who you are, what you have etc. without shoving them down people's throats and talking about them ad nauseam - that's humble and modest

The opposite is what my DH would call an 'opera singer' "me, me, me, me! 🎶"

I grew up in the area where William and Harry used to hang out when they were in res at Highgrove. Not at all surprised by the allegations that William had an affair, I know many girls who have 'Willy' stories. And that included when he was dating Kate.
I went to an event at the palace that William was officiating at and thought he was brilliantly well prepared and charming. But couldn't get the sex pest thing out of my head as there are so many stories about him where I live.

What sort of stories?
