love how are the people that were so outraged by the what will the babys skin colour be are ever so quiet now hes backtracked

How has he backtracked?

It was a concerning comment and still is.

As a white person he said he doesn't know if it's racist or not: maybe it's unconscious bias

As a black person I think it's racist

And the fact all these white people are jumping on this as 'phew he's backracked' is just not surprising to me 🙄🤔

I had to tell my children (10 & 12) that their father had died. I feel for Charles hearing this. There's no right way to do it and Charles was clearly in shock himself.

He is also, like me, of a generation where hugging everyone wasn't the norm, I don't doubt from their actions that my parents loved me but I never heard them say it and I too feel uncomfortable at times the way Love you is thrown about.

BradfordGirl · 08/01/2023 22:49

No I am not. I have posted very few comments tonight. I can't be bothered with the level of batshit hatred against Meghan and Harry.

Lots agree with you @Bradfordgirl

maeveiscurious · 08/01/2023 23:00

@BradfordGirl

Here is a reminder

amp.cnn.com/cnn/2021/03/08/uk/meghan-oprah-interview-racism-scli-gbr-intl/index.html

You are splitting hairs over the context of the conversation.

As HRH said "recollections may vary"

BradfordGirl · 08/01/2023 23:00

Orangefir · 08/01/2023 22:57

It was clearly implied, when the linked the questioning of Archie’s skin colour and his lack of title

But he is right he did not say the Royal Family was racist.

ItWasDobbinAtTheMareAndSpare · 08/01/2023 23:01

I’m half working so struggled to watch live. I suppose we’ll never know the full truth and probably all in the situation have good and bad behaviour. Has he been yet said what he could have done better though? That always concerns me a bit, it’s a bit of a sign. I’m sure he must in the book though.

Mollyollydolly · 08/01/2023 23:01

All very sad.
If that's what therapy does for you I wont bother. He seems deeply paranoid.
Such a shame always had a soft spot for him, but he's really swallowed all the buzzwords. I hope he finds happiness but it doesn't look likely after watching that. Kept imagining his family watching it, they must be hurt beyond measure.

I'd like to hear more about these court cases against the press and the deliberate placing of listening devices that he mentioned. If there has been illegal behaviour it needs exposing.

There’s a reason you haven’t heard much about them. Everything we read about this couple is filtered through the tabloids. We barely heard that MM won her case!

Maybe have a look in the Guardian?

It takes a very brave person to print anything about the tabloid right wing press in the UK because they have enormous power and resources, and journalists reporting on this will be afraid of that implacable force being turned on them.

I do hope Hugh Grant and other members of Hacked Off take Harry under their wing.

LizzieSiddal · 08/01/2023 23:02

I think they’ll be a lot of red faces in th Palace and in Tabloid offices. They have been complicit in leaking stories and the Tabloids do twist stories. They will hate the fact Harry is talking about this.

I’d like to know about the legal actions he has in place. I expect the press are very keen to suppress all talk of them.

Orangefir · 08/01/2023 23:02

BradfordGirl · 08/01/2023 23:00

But he is right he did not say the Royal Family was racist.

Semantics

The result is the same

OP posts:
BradfordGirl · 08/01/2023 23:02

I know what they said.
There were several "concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he was born,"

Orangefir · 08/01/2023 23:02

He just thought he was clever about it

OP posts:
BradfordGirl · 08/01/2023 23:03

Semantics?
This is what you all do when you accuse Harry and Meghan of lying.

ItWasDobbinAtTheMareAndSpare · 08/01/2023 23:03

Also the thing with Kate about how not to talk to her, I suppose it depends on whether it was the first or last straw. Suggesting Kate and William treated her differently because she’s biracial is a pretty strong accusation though.

MoirasSaggyBundles · 08/01/2023 23:04

He constantly filibusters throughout. One example. After the audio description of Dogbowlgate, TB asks Harry, "What on earth was that all about?" Which I took to mean, what were you arguing about to such an extent that it ended up in physical violence? Harry never answers. Waffle, waffle, waffle about we fought as kids, if I wasn't in therapy I'd have hit him, aren't I great that I'm working on myself and enlightened and he's a bully brute, and it's all the fault of the press, blah blah.

Fuck all of substance, questions not answered, everything comes back to the press every fucking time.

Honeyroar · 08/01/2023 23:04

IcedPurple · 08/01/2023 22:58

I doubt it.

This farce is doing a lot more harm to Harry than it is to the rest of the family.

Harold is desperate for a response, but he's not going to get one.

Yes he’s desperate for a response because he wants to sell more books/interviews replying to them. If there’s no reactions to his shocking outbursts the media interest will fizzle out. We’re getting used to/bored of his revelations.

LivelyBlake · 08/01/2023 23:04

He never used the word racist.

No, he is never direct. He’s really sly. Weasel, if you like.

SequinsandStilettos · 08/01/2023 23:04

I have now-dead relatives who made problematic comments - think "woolly woofters" for gay men. Were they awful homophobes - in real life, if they came across members of the LGBT community, I doubt they'd have been anything other than pleasant but upbringing, lack of diversity, a different time entirely, their age, their insular area up in the North East...adds up to what the press would surely label as homophobia now.

I think that's what Harry meant about his family and about Susan Hussey. That he did not label them racists but they may have expressed ideas/sentiment which many would deem problematic.

Orangefir · 08/01/2023 23:05

BradfordGirl · 08/01/2023 23:02

I know what they said.
There were several "concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he was born,"

And Then they went on to say this was around the time that they were discussing if Archie would gain the title of prince. There was clear inference that a family questioning a grandchild’s skin cookout is also a family that will withhold a title because of the child skin colour. It’s not difficult.

That’s not to say that they are wrong in putting those two things together and linking them- but they did link them

Just read a headline from The Guardian- Harry in furious interview.
I just watched it. Saw no fury.

Not the headline I would have run with, I agree. But I would say that his tone and body language at times indicated a huge amount of unresolved anger. There were times when he was clearly very unhappy with the line of questioning.

JudgeJ · 08/01/2023 23:05

PicturesOfDogs · 08/01/2023 21:39

Sounds like he’s mentally framed her as ‘the wicked stepmother’ indeed.

Just like his mother and her siblings acted towards their step-mother. He knows he can say what he wants, he'll never be asked to prove it and the other side won't soil themselves getting involved.

milti · 08/01/2023 23:05

So they’re not racist then - glad that’s been acknowledged (although they didn’t address what they said about Archie not being given a title because of his race). They are the ones who should apologise - they didn’t correct the people who called the royal family racist did they ?

They barely even count as 'revelations'. So some unnamed royal 'planted' some unnamed story 4 or 5 years ago? Who really cares at this point?

He seems completely fixated on the past. So much for finding freedom.

No one can bring out the worst side of anyone. We are all responsible for our own actions.

Certainly a woman does not bring out the worst in any man.

it’s a trope as old as Adam and Eve and, it’s long time past it was buried.

I despair when women say this

when you live for a long time with someone they have an effect on you.
Just look at Relationships if you don't believe me. Parent/child; partners. If you don't think partners have an influence on each other, that's just strange.

Harry is clearly devastated beyond belief about his mother dying (which believe me, I get).
I think he and William were terribly treated - dear god, having to do that walk behind the coffin, and I bet that wasn't the tenth of the lack of compassion - but I also think that the dynamics of Meghan and the dynamics of him have been terrible.

Yes, I do think she's responsible for quite a bit, though I also think the RF handled her coming into it terribly. From being pro-Royal, im now thinking they are a mess and we should have a Constitution and a President.

If nothing else she should have told him to NOT DO THIS BOOK. Or interview.
