In totally totally unsurprising development.

Taliban says Harry killed civilians

“We checked and found that the days on which Prince Harry is mentioning the killing of 25 mujaheddin, we did not have any casualties in Helmand,” Taliban leader Anas Haqqani told Al Jazeera on Friday. “It is clear that civilians and ordinary people were targeted.”

I'm sorry but if anyone believes the Taliban then they are an utter idiot.

Exactly. Only an idiot with nothing to lose would trust their words after harry bringing it back in his book. This idiot could self immolate in the middle of the coronation party events and kill loads of innocent people.

Only the sinister British media has put a target on his back, by carrying on about this old news. They splashed it all over the front pages back in 2013, now they are faking outrage.

Harry is going over everything that took place and was reported over the years. The press cruelly cherry pick this and blow it up to put his life in danger (presumably, they've been briefed to). This was all fully covered back then, now it's H saying what he felt about it all.

And @crowsfeet57 H is explaining why he would have had to de-humanise them in order to follow through. If he saw them as the humans they are, he would not be able to kill them. I have already attached the extract in a previous post.

Don't talk sense like this. Only outrage and bile will do 🙄

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 07/01/2023 16:45

I don’t believe this will reverse the decision to pay for his security.

And it shouldn't. He's made his bed, he can lie in it and pay for his own damn security for his stupidity.
And it's not about believing the Taliban, it's about realising they will retaliate and innocent people could get hurt in the process. It's about realising his comments have made his family, the RF, the British military, the U.K. and USA citizens at risk. If they want Harry they won't care if innocent people get caught in the way.

Harry may well be going back over the years and many of us have agreed that the press are cherry picking, but it was idiotic to put this particular episode in to the book when it was bound to be highlighted. That is squarely in Harry’s corner.

FortunaMajor · 07/01/2023 15:29

Harry wants his security paid for. This will now mean the threat to him is higher and therefore paid security more justified. He's not as daft as he looks on this one.

It’s also one way to strong arm your spouse into moving “back home”, for the sake of the kids having proper security now the Taliban target risk has shot up.

Consciously or subconsciously maybe he felt he would only have full control over his choices and destiny if he, his spouse and his children were on his home turf ?

Snippedasababy · 07/01/2023 16:53

The media wouldn’t have ‘cherry picked it’ from the book, if it hadn’t been in there.

Harry knows the media will pick parts out and is relying on it. Even if the UK press hadn’t reported on it, it would still have been out there. And picked up on.

Well yeah, anyone on ‘our’ side will realise that soldiers have to disassociate themselves and dehumanise the enemy in order to cope. It’s just that the ‘other’ side (in this case a group if fanatic nutjobs) don’t really appreciate being dehumanised and compared to pieces on a chess board, having this fact publicly stated alongside a ‘kill’ tally of people who will be their friend/son/brother etc. And the other side also have a pretty poor record of killing, torturing and staging terrorist attacks, so people might be a little bit jittery about the whole thing.

Good thing there are no idiots out there, isn't it?

My view exactly.

So you acknowledge that the Taliban and their followers are idiots and may retaliate in terrifying ways? I’m so glad you’re keeping up with the rest of us.

BradfordGirl · 07/01/2023 16:53

Aaarrggh! Do you not understand what drives fanatics? They blindly believe what they are told and seek to prove their worth by exacting revenge on a perceived injustice. Just because most of us do not trust or believe the Taliban doesn’t mean that their followers won’t. Have you no clue how the world works? Look at those who followed Hitler or Stalin or Putin even. Most rational people would say that these people were mad but it doesn’t mean they don’t have followers who believe in them. A bit like the Sussexes 🙄

TheRedLip · 07/01/2023 16:59

How big a frostbitten knob is he that he's managed to allow the fucking Taliban, the TALIBAN to take the theoretical moral high ground over him?

bakalava · 07/01/2023 17:01

To be fair, the Taliban reside in snowy mountains and probably have frostbitten knobs too.

letthatmango · 07/01/2023 17:02

Just read the pages from the book, it's on Twitter.

Yeah. The feel is very different to what were being fed by the media, but crack on!

It's amazing how many are commenting on a book they haven't actually read!

Even if he inadvertently killed civilians, the Taliban still absolutely do not have the moral high ground. Only a die-hard Harry hater would actually think this. They kill civilians everyday.

ALeapOfFaith · 07/01/2023 17:03

I wonder if this statement is basically an invitation for Taliban sympathisers to take out an equivalent 25 innocent civilian lives as an ‘eye for eye’.

Fine for H&M who live in an armed guarded mansion with personal security wherever they go, they will make more difficult targets.

Not so great for the general pubic in either UK or USA who now become potential targets too.

I think that’s why the poster said “theoretical” high ground. As in we know they don’t, but they will claim it anyway and some will believe them. It’s like wading through treacle on this thread…

TheRedLip · 07/01/2023 17:04

Er have you heard of something called propoganda? It doesn't matter what Harry now did/didn't do. He has absolutely shot himself in the foot and given the TALIBAN a huge stick to beat him with. Moron.

TheRedLip · 07/01/2023 17:05

That should read propaganda.

BradfordGirl · 07/01/2023 17:06

We didn't care about propaganda when the Royal Family agreed a photographer could take photos of him being a "soldier".

BratzB · 07/01/2023 17:10

Thanks for clarifying. There will be some who still choose to see it that way though, I'm sure!🤦🏼‍♀️

MalagaNights · 07/01/2023 17:11

Way to go starting a personal feud with The Taliban Harry.
Really prioritising your children's safety there.

Obviously in his book he will have wanted to talk about his time in the army. But any rational person would have found a way to do to this without specifics and without naming numbers you've killed or the bloody Taliban directly.

Why was this left in?? If he didn't see this surely his writer or publisher or wife would have said something?? It's crazy.

Mañanarama · 07/01/2023 17:12

bakalava · 07/01/2023 16:36

It's odd how the Taliban are the only ones eager to answer him in all of this but his own family are still ignoring him. He is screaming for attention. I believe it is a lonely life out in Montecito for a nepo kid Brit. The smarter choice would have been the Samaritans.

Except we don’t know that they’re ignoring him - I imagine behind the palace doors there is a full scale crisis going on. They’ll be upset, angry and bewildered, and also highly concerned about Harry’s state of mind and the repercussions from all this.

The fact the royal family haven’t said anything publicly, means absolutely nothing.

Actually a lot of people talked about wether it was a good idea. And the risks to him while serving.

MeghanOnesStallion · 07/01/2023 17:13

this thread (and other Harry v Taliban threads) in a nutshell:

Harry: I killed 25 Taliban fighters. I dehumanised as a way to do my job and cope with the aftermath.

Newspapers: Harry killed 25 Taliban fighters, how dare he!

Taliban: You admitted killing 25 Taliban fighters. They weren’t fighters, they were civilians. We are morally superior to you. You are a war criminal (and other hate inciting talk)

Pro Harry posters: It’s his experience and he’s entitled to share it. It’s the newspapers fault for sharing it in the first place, how dare they. It’s all anti Harry conspiracy.

Anti Harry posters: He is evil, all soldiers are evil for killing people, even in war situations. The army is evil.

Moderates: Okay, kind of thought that would be the case so so big surprise. But maybe he shouldn’t have brought it back up and gone into detail because the Taliban will be gunning for him and want revenge. Shit, they could even target OUR civilians!
