Taliban say Harry killed civilians

In totally totally unsurprising development.

Taliban says Harry killed civilians

“We checked and found that the days on which Prince Harry is mentioning the killing of 25 mujaheddin, we did not have any casualties in Helmand,” Taliban leader Anas Haqqani told Al Jazeera on Friday. “It is clear that civilians and ordinary people were targeted.”

Because the Taliban are now in power again. The political landscape has changed hugely. Anyone who doesn’t understand that needs to give their head a good wobble - including him.

Surely being in power is worse for the Taliban. That means accountability, rather than a 'rouge' organisation that no one knows. The whole world will know and point fingers now - just like Russia vs Ukraine. Someone is being held accountable.

Just like cutting off hands of voters in Sierra Leone etc. all 'rebels' at the time. No one held accountable.

This was the case when H was splashed all over as a hero. Meaning the threat was even worse as 'rebels' Taliban could get to him with no accountability.

Harry did not attract special attraction that has not been reported before. If anything, the Taliban would have acted then, when he was part of the RF and they were unofficial rebels.

Also, the people who are against H&M are saying how he is trashing the RF, so how is he putting them and us in the UK in danger if he is so against us. Why would the Taliban kill the people 'he despises', as you all always state.

So reneging on promises that women’s rights would not be disrupted under their governance is accountability is it? And as others have said, it isn’t necessarily the Taliban themselves who would be a threat, but rather those who ascribe to their doctrines. If the Taliban highlight that Harry is representative of western values then of course their followers would see the UK and the RF as a legitimate target. They wouldn’t care that Harry allegedly despises the RF. What a silly thing to suggest

I think you are completely missing my point. Harry wants the Royal Protection back that he had when he was a working royal. You can't buy this, it's provided by a special branch of The Met. He wants this, not his own bodyguards that he pays for himself whether they are armed or not.

The Met have said he can't have this security any more. He took them to court over it. Can they really refuse it not the threat level to him has significantly increased?

You can't buy this

Can you stop with this blanket trope, you know that Tony Blair paid for security as did Kate Moss and most football clubs.

RemindMeAgain · 07/01/2023 21:48

@PicturesOfDogs I agree with you, I do think he’s put a target on his back and the repercussions could be devastating.

Is it normal for former services personnel to talk about head-counts? I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone else that’s been in the services talk openly about this kind of thing either on real life or on tv.

TheRubyRedshoes · 07/01/2023 22:02

It's not the Taliban per se. .it seems like an age ago when we were living with Isis 😥. Harry has been beyond foolish, who knows what lone wolf is already on his way to punish him. Extremists.

Broadswordcalling · 07/01/2023 22:12

Speak for yourself not your country. You’re not the PM!

@jays

Thanks for the insightful input. I'm pretty sure that majority of the country is highly unimpressed with him. Not surprising considering how petty and whiny the man has made himself look of late. So, yes, I do believe he is an embarrassment to the country.

YesterYay · 07/01/2023 22:26

Does anyone know what the details were that Harry outlined in his book and that enabled the Taliban ascertain exact dates and locations?

rumship · 07/01/2023 23:12

Well done Harry 👋👋👋 (Slow clap)

He did it, he's said (written) it - can't constantly blame his family or the media

When is it ever his responsibility to own?

Harry wants his security paid for. This will now mean the threat to him is higher and therefore paid security more justified. He's not as daft as he looks on this one.

He has barrel loads of gold and is about to get shed loads more for the book and all the
lucrative interviews he has lined up.
He walked away from the Firm and is publicly.trashing his own family.
Let him pay his own way.for once.

Falalalalalalaetc · 08/01/2023 11:17

He does need to be held accountable I agree. He needs to pay his own way - this country is broken we can't afford the security for a twat who's put a target on his own back (and other people's).

I'd quite like him to face some legal consequence for being so reckless - surely ex-soldiers aren't supposed to do this?

I'm REALLY REALLY sick of people seemingly expecting normal people to be sensitive about the mental health of a multi millionaire who is deliberately trashing his own family, and national security i.e. bringing on the harms himself. What about the mental health of all the ex-service men and women who will be affected by this? And their families.

Ah great now the Taliban are wading in!

Falalalalalalaetc · 08/01/2023 11:19

He's harming people, he's harming the UK. He is harming women and girls in Afghanistan by giving a gift to their oppressors.

I hope he is relentlessly ridiculed until he gets the bloody message it's time to stop for everyone's sake (including himself). How else are we, the public, meant to get this message across? He's obviously not interested in hearing the advice of 'lessers' (can't believe no-one in the publishing company raised any concerns - think it's most likely they were dismissed).

A man who thinks bins and toilets are talking to him probably has killed innocent civilians thinking they were armed.
Snorting a line of coke before starting a machine gun straffing session sounds like a scene from Apocalypse Now.

PH does need to face legal consequences over this. If he was any other ordinary citizen or veteran I am sure that HMG would move heaven and earth to see him sanctioned. He has placed all UK citizens at risk all over the world, he has put all our forces and veterans at risk of a Lee Rigby attack, he has put the RF at risk.
I have a sad feeling that an atrocity will not be soon coming.
PH should serve time either in a military prison or a civil prison to show that rules apply to all and to discourage anyone else from this path of stupidity.

Gilmorehill · 08/01/2023 11:37

AllOfThemWitches · 07/01/2023 15:22

Coz we trust the taliban?

That’s not the point. By saying what he said, he’s allowed lots of nutters like the Taliban and Choudry to use him to score points.

Megan1992xx · 08/01/2023 11:49

Let is hope theTaliban pick on the person responsible not the rest of us.
PH has made himself a target it is his problem.
Nothing he did was in my name.

Cornettoninja · 08/01/2023 14:26

After all the measures that were taken to make sure he could actually serve in the armed forces (his choice) in Afghanistan it’s insulting to throw that back in the military’s face. He was never in a position to serve as an ordinary solider, it required effort to make that a feasible option for him.

He appreciates nothing.

vera99 · 08/01/2023 15:38

From elsewhere on the non-hysterical internet....

If you’re interested in reading the full excerpt in context, go here to Yahoo. What Harry describes is literally what every soldier with a conscience goes through: am I doing the right thing? Are these righteous kills? Is there any chance a civilian could be caught in the crossfire? And now, in modern warfare, when soldiers can kill people with a push of a button, does it help or hurt to dehumanize the enemy? What I also find remarkable in this excerpt is that Harry writes about visiting with 9/11 families, and watching the Twin Towers come down while he was at Eton. He was literally in Afghanistan, fighting the Taliban – and less than a year later, his father was taking bags of money from the bin Laden family.

@vera99 the point being discussed on this particular thread though is not the rights and wrongs of killing, or Harry’s attitude to it. It is the fact that he has drawn attention to it in the book, the press have picked up on it and now the Taliban and their allies are interested again

Yep.

And the people who are talking about context are missing the point. The situation as it is now is that this is a story without people having read the book, and that includes the Taliban response. They're hardly going to be persuaded by anyone going well akshully you've missed out some very important parts.

SnottyLottie · 07/01/2023 15:50

@GrasstrackGirl some radical Islamists believe whatever the Taliban says. And they don’t all live in Afghanistan.

They will target Harry for this. They will target Meghan and the children. They will target the royal family. They will target British soldiers. They will target the British public. We just have to hope they aren’t successful in their revenge.

He has put people’s lives in danger bringing all of this back up again and confirming what was only ever suspected in the first place. It’s actually very worrying.

Exactly.

Dumbfounded that he's been so reckless. If I were KC and PW this would be the nail in the coffin. Good riddance to rubbish.

Non-hysterical?

Or desperation from those whose hero has shown him what a dangerous fool he is, in his own words?

I've read the 'context' and I don't think it changes things at all. But more to the point, as others have said, the 'context' barely matters when you make such potentially incendiary remarks to a global audience. If you require everyone to read the 'context' before forming an opinion?, maybe best not to include such sensitive comments in a book? Especially one where you discuss your chilly willy and your wife's habit of singing to seals?
