The royal family

I am genuinely worried for Harry's mental health now after this

Give it another week of worldwide chewing over his words and all the drama it's creating, I'm genuinely worried for Harry. How can you go anywhere and hold your head up after you've opened yourself to such ridicule? He might want an un-royal life but he is a prince non-the-less. Where's the dignity? He really, really needs help. I sincerely hope it gets it. The fallout from this won't be forgotten in a hurry. And to top it off, how can he make his family truly secure now?

Hasn't he? I thought he and Princess Anne were quite in favour for basically getting their heads down and getting on with all the boring tasks involved in being Royal.

I agree, that’s what I thought too. Am also confused by this comment.

I definitely get shades of this from there relationship.

I initially felt something 'off' about Meghan then really warmed to her after watching the documentary. But there's still something in my gut that ding ding dings about her.

MM seems really sinister to me. I don't think she and PH are just misguided and on the same page. I think she's a narcissist and a manipulator who is exploiting PH for her own gain, and that's why she doesn't care that he's burning bridges and ruining his image. She will profit and move on.

I think Charles is making a sensible decision though - a slimmed down monarchy is more likely to survive than a bloated one. It’s the way he (Charles) thinks he can keep the monarchy going. Long term popularity is all that matters really

The Daily Mail published an article saying that KC was saving the title for Charlotte. Which, if true, means that this problem is just delayed a few generations. To truly slim it down, he’d have to get rid of it altogether

In any case, Edward must be seething since the Queen explicitly said to pass it to him

meinteresamucho · 08/01/2023 05:31

Edward doesn't seem like the seething type. Does it actually come with any real privileges?

I've just read an article (fessing up, on the Mail website) that Harry describes how he took laughing gas and ate Nando's while Meghan was in Labour. Bizarre. But even more weird is that he took out a photo of Diana and put it on a table in the delivery room.

That is not normal. I think he's seriously unwell. And has lost sight of normal behaviour in his quest to please Meghan and to make money.

I hope she stays with him. The consequences if she left would be terrible.

Oh and he thinks he's a great father. If a woman posted on here that her DH was high on laughing gas while she was giving birth she'd be told to LTB.

RoseMadderAsHell · 08/01/2023 08:38

I wonder if the over-sharing (and possible exaggeration/lies) is his way of trying to make himself appear more likeable and "just a normal bloke".
I could imagine a group of squaddies joking about how they tried the gas and air when their partner was in labour

LizzieSiddal · 08/01/2023 08:44

Oh my goodness. I wonder if the Meghan haters will begin to feel sorry for her and realise all this is not “that evil Meghan’s” fault.

She’s obviously encouraging him to dwell on his losses. It’s not helpful.

Inkpotlover · 08/01/2023 08:46

I wonder how long it will be before Harry publicly denounces producing a book that invades his loved ones privacy in the most painful way. Not weeks or months, but definitely at some point in his life. I think this editorial from the Chicago Tribune nails it. Former President Ronald Reagan's daughter has also come out to say how much she wishes she'd never written a very similar tell-all about her dad and family, driven by the same motives that drove H to write his.

So yes, I fear for his mental health too. Because at some point he's going to realise his dirty laundering has changed nothing and all it's done is estrange him even further and deeper from his family.

Blimey, it my partner had put a photo of MIL beside my bed as I was about to reach 10cms dilated I'd lost it!

I think so much if this is an attempt to appear relatable. He’s desperately trying to live in the real world and appear to be normal. He doesn’t live in anything approximating the real world though and never will. His existence now is probably even less normal than when he was in the RF. He’s isolated, with nothing to do and in a foreign country. He’s living in a weird bubble with someone who brings out the worst in him and nothing to check worst impulses. He desperately needs sensible guidance .

nc1013 · 08/01/2023 08:51

I agree with you on this. She signed up for something more elevated. It must be awful in their house tonight. I hope someone's keeping Harry safe.

Given how overbearing and controlling she seems to be I'm shocked megan didn't know the content of the book in advance. Or does everyone think she did?

I was under the impression she stage manages everything, but even if not, surely 99% of the population would read their dhs autobiography prior to publication?

Itsnottime · 08/01/2023 08:54

If course she knew the content. She’ll deny she did of course.

Inkpotlover · 08/01/2023 08:55

Of course they both read the final proof to sign it off. It's unthinkable that they wouldn't.

AutumnCrow · 08/01/2023 08:56

I am kind of now assuming she wrote large parts or it and that it’s her ‘voice’ we are hearing a lot of in the anecdotes about gravestones, seal singing and the hours of veil scalloping.

I know it’s been translated to Spanish and back, but the tone and content isn’t just Harry spouting into Moehringer’s tape recorder.

There are three people in that book.

I agree with this, but I though the whole thing was supposed to be ghost written? It doesn’t come across that way.

RoseMadderAsHell · 08/01/2023 09:04

I can imagine H and M both deciding what should go in the book, thinking they knew best and they didn't need advice from any experts.

The ghost writer probably just thought "what the hell" and went along with it.

oakleaffy · 08/01/2023 09:06

Harry wouldn’t be allowed to write or dictate anything, without having “ Mommy“ putting her two cents in.

nc1013 · 08/01/2023 09:13

So how can she now be annoyed about it? Just because HER book didn't go down as SHE planned? Hardy Harry's fault!

I think this too. Normally you'd get a couple of trusted beta readers to look over it and they'd question the most contentious bits, but that clearly didn't happen. And the lawyers must've had a field day signing it off because they knew the Royals would never sue and Harry could write what he wanted and there'd be no official comeback.

What I want to know, though, is what happened to all the racism allegations? During Oprah, it underpinned everything – it was partly why they fled abroad, to escape the racist press and public, why she struggled to function within the RF, the basis of slurs about their unborn child. Yet there appears to be nothing or very little in the book. I find that baffling.

AutumnCrow · 08/01/2023 09:27

The successful ghost writer Mark McCrum (who ghost wrote a previous book chapter for Harry for ‘Walking with the Wounded’ and managed to leave his frost-bitten penis out of it) has a short article in today’s Telegraph.

He thinks Moehringer should have left out the ‘killed 25 Taliban’ passage. I agree.

Moehringer’s fee was reportedly $5 million, btw. I wonder if, like McCrum, he might share some recollections or if he’s NDAed in perpetuity?

Mine slept in the chair next to me/the floor for like 8+ hours, that was annoying enough! But then he had literally got off hours of flights back from Afghanistan so I think he was actually more tired than me, he was an infantry role and had literally been pulled off the front line hours before. Must have been mad to have been under live fire 24hours prior but now sat in a UK Hospital.

So I had to internally seethe, and labour in silence because I didn't want to disturb him, and tell the staff not to wake him. He woke up for the pushing part 🤦🏻‍♀️

The staff though bless them were lovely, they gave him blankets and a pillow and then fed him and gave him water/tea/coffee when he finally woke up. I'm sure late DH had more handshakes and people caring for him than me at one point 🤣

Eating, taking my pain medication and putting a picture of MIL would have led to him being ordered out swiftly as I would have found that contemptuous personally.

Yes I think socially grew up in a very (even after growing up) public school boy obnoxious toffs and then laddish army environment. Contrasted against the whole super buttoned up public facing Royal environment he faces at other times, he might have thought that the other 2 obnoxious/jokey environments represented the real world. So he may have just misjudged what to share.
