We had to buy our Notts Cott furniture from Ikea on M's credit card- boo hoo

Really?
Another statement probably way off the truth.

H is reported as saying they were amazed when they visited W&C in Kensington Palace and saw the art work, the furniture etc etc.

Whereas HE had to kit out Notts Cott with Ikea stuff that M bought using her CC. (Harrods is just down the road as is John Lewis .)

Has he forgotten the £millions of tax payers' money that was used to tart up Nott Cott?

And that he's now had to pay back as they buggered off the US soon afterwards?

Yet another warped statement, oozing with unfounded jealousy.

@gentlysobbing, only carrier bags stuffed with cash are acceptable currency in the RF whether delivered by butler or not. The use of a personal cc is most surprising.

jollygreenpea · 06/01/2023 10:38

Wasn't it just to be a temporary home for them, as we the tax payers were renovating a large apartment in KP next to W and K. They decided that they didn't want to live next door to them so got Frogmore cottage instead.

LavenderHillMob · 06/01/2023 10:39

I remember when Carrie complained about Theresa May's awful John Lewis aesthetic, even Boris had the nous to say he loved John Lewis and Keir Starmer arranged to be filmed there.

How long before we are treated to photos of Wills & Kate queuing for meatballs I wonder?

Although as pp have pointed out, I'm not sure Harry would know what a bookcase was for.

I don't think he's even read his own book.

“Did you actually see pictures of where Harry & Meghan were living when she first moved to London? I know that it was on the grounds of Kensington palace and had a little paved garden - but it was a kinda dingy and cheap little unit with ratty carpet and cheap furniture. Then Harry and Meghan visit his brother & sister in laws place and it’s a palace. But they hold out because grandma gave Will & Kate a Norfolk property when they got married. The only thing Kate wanted to change was the kitchen because it wasn’t her aesthetic. When Harry & Meghan got married they were gifted dilapidated workers cottages that weren’t habitable and they spent millions of their own money making it habitable.”

You need to do a bit more research . W, K and baby managed to live in Nott Cott for some time . Eugenie and husband also survived a stay there .
The plan was for H and M to move into KP as the Gloucesters were moving out of what was generally viewed as the best apartment in KP . H and M decided they wanted to live in Windsor Castle but HM said no and offered them Frogmore . It is untrue to say that they used their own money to make it habitable . All rewiring, plumbing etc etc was done for them , they had to spend their own money on their yoga studio etc . Just as Kate and William spent their own money on the kitchen they wanted .

Meghan must have needed a hell of a carrier bag to pay for her £56,000 engagement dress then. Perhaps she reused one of those blue Ikea ones.

@Ilovelabradorcuddles I’m wondering where the fans are on this thread… or like me, they were fans once and now are so frustrated and disappointed him in.
I loved when they got married, I really liked that they were bringing some fresh energy to this country. I used to really fancy him and am now seriously questioning my judgement 😂

Yes, and it’s where William and Kate AND their baby son - two actual heirs to the throne - lived until the palace they currently live in now was renovated and decorated exactly as they wanted it. Which is also exactly what the plan was for harry and Meghan too. I’m really not seeing your point here.

If they and you are too stupid to understand the concept of delayed gratification, we can’t help you.

exactly. its still a big enough property for two people to live in.

how many rooms do they even need?

it's all bit "waaaaahhhh these diamond shoes are too tight"

The only thing Kate wanted to change was the kitchen because it wasn’t her aesthetic. When Harry & Meghan got married they were gifted dilapidated workers cottages that weren’t habitable and they spent millions of their own money making it habitable.

Yet, they see “the little Emperor” with a house in the country, a palace for the weekdays filled with art and furniture & Meghan is going to ikea and putting Klaksta & Hemnes furniture together.
Then right around the corner Will & Kate are permitted to move into a beautiful house on the Windsor estate & they will inherit and very soon move into Windsor Castle.

I must be the only person in the world who believes them! They got the dirty end of the stick.
I know that Harry has been given more wealth and privilege than I can ever imagine - but he was born into it!! He is the scapegoat in his family. Now Will has children Harry isn’t as important.

The Crown should be looking after Harry and Meghan. Will & Kate are always helicoptering places including taking their children to Mustique for holidays. We all know how safe helicopters are (they are not safe). The Crown erred in their treatment of Harry and Meghan.

It was racist (the disgusting old royal) asking what colour skin Archie would have. Most people here are white but it’s a massive deal to say that to a black person. It’s quite frankly disgusting.

I completely empathise with Harry & Meghan and even though a lot of the stuff in ikea is expensive now - who would have thought Meghan would have to put ikea furniture on her credit card? Harry is a prince and was a working member of the royal family then.

Also, Meghan saying “baby brain” to Kate was not worthy of a WW3 reaction from William. William and Kate hated her and hate her still.

I’m completely on the side of Harry & Meghan. Unfortunately both sides of their family have toxic people in them. It’s no wonder they have tried to make a new tribe with American celebrities.

I think the attitude to life on this is important.

Harry clearly compares his life to William and sees it as shit. What he's not doing is looking at the good things in his life and how much he does have in comparison to others.

Thats where it will always grate with the public.

It strikes me as a pretty standard and normal sibling relationship where one has a better career and the other one can only ever take petty swipes rather than just getting on with their own life and making something special and unique out of it.

Even the scrap with the dog bowl sounds pretty standard fare between brothers. Either that or Harry wants to model him and his brother as the new Mitchell Brothers. Not sure which is Phil and which is Grant yet, nor who is Sharon. But we do have a 'Who Killed Mum?' storyline and if we aren't careful with shouting off how many people you've killed, you run the risk of a 'Who gets shot? storyline.

I'm embarassed for the lot of them tbh.

Clearly the people benefitting from this and raking it in are a very dodgy therapist, the ghost book writer, the publisher, netflix, the american and british press and all the other hangers on who will eventually ditch him / screw him over far more than his family ever have. He just hasn't grasped this yet. As soon as he's old news, he will be dropped like a hot potato and there will just be a string of stories about how much of a fat, washed up has been he is buying pints of milk in LA. None of the sympathy will remain in time.

Adelaide cottage, which W & C live in is smaller than frogmore. Frogmore cottage is huge, HM wedding was huge. M spent more on clothes than any one else in the royal household. They were both independently wealthy before they got together. Nott Cott was lived in by Harry by choice, before him Kate and wills lived in it with baby George so it can’t be that much of an IKEA clad hell hole.
As usual with HM the inconsistencies continue.

Slight detail but mention of wedding reminded me . Apparently they wanted to marry in Westminster Abbey but were told no .

ScandiSquirrel · 06/01/2023 10:43

I live very near the original Ikea in Sweden, God I hope they don’t miss this marketing opportunity to name furniture or a dog bowl to Harry! Or Harry the Hat rack. 😂

jay55 · 06/01/2023 10:44

Harry is a magic clean table man, no clue that people actually do things like decorate and buy furniture or get art out of storage. It was all magically in place for him his whole life.

Aposterhasnoname · 06/01/2023 10:46

AlbertaAnnie · 06/01/2023 10:37

Not sure that is the same as living rent free in a royal cottage….

The question was why did only some people “benefit” from the art. The answer is, they don’t, anyone can see it.

Serenster · 06/01/2023 10:47

Harry also writes that he floated St Pauls as an option to William.

You know when someone has had a bit too much therapy and starts to analyse and interpret every tiny detail of all their interactions? That’s where Harry is.

Sure, going over ones past really helps in therapy. But at a point you need to stop pouring over every detail, accept what happened and develop healthy coping mechanisms and move on, making the changes that will benefit you and your family. Accept you can’t change people around you, so put healthy boundaries in place.

Harry is stuck. Pouring over every tiny detail and apportioning blame to various parties. It’s often recommended in therapy that you write “no send” letters. Where you get to air all your shit and aggrievances to those who’ve hurt you, BUT you don't send it.

Shame that in Harry’s case, he (the greedy twit) hit publish instead of save to draft.

100% this.

The only sympathy I really feel for him is the 'spare parts' quote above, which I think is probably true. But the whole point of an examined life is to look beyond things like that and develop tools, techniques and boundaries that free you.

He has not done that. Stuck would be a much better title than Spare.

Is there nothing this man can’t find to complain about? He’ll be moaning his toilet didn’t flush and no one would pay for a plumber next. He needs to go and live in a third world country and volunteer for a year. He is so entitled it’s beyond belief.

This.

Anyone else wondering if Meghan has the ick yet?

I think Megan has always had the 'ick'. However the thought of marrying a Prince, having a title, fairytale wedding, living in a big palace and being one of the recognised women on the planet has helped her overcome it.
However the reality has not lived up to her expectations. So the 'ick' feeling must be felt even deeper now.
When she leaves him (which she will) he will be broken. It is really sad. Because you know when she does go she will sell stories and write books about her 'awful life with a drug taking prince'. Not to mention all the diaries and taped conversations she very likely has.

GentlySobbing · 06/01/2023 10:33

How does one pay for an Ikea order without using a credit card? Is there an option at checkout to send a butler around with a wad of cash?

He said her personal credit card, so my guess is that he wanted to make the point that they were paying from their own resources, not ligging off either official or family funds

TheClogLady · 06/01/2023 10:57

RedToothBrush · 06/01/2023 10:16

The IKEA names system seems to be quite simple, when it is going by the following rules:

• Bathroom articles: names of Scandinavian lakes, rivers and bays
• Bedlinen, bed covers, pillows/cushions: flowers, plants, precious stones
• Beds, wardrobes, hall furniture: names of Norwegian places
• Bookcase ranges: occupations, Scandinavian boy’s names
• Bowls, vases, candles, and candle holders: names of Swedish places, descriptive words, spices, herbs, fruits and berries
• Boxes, wall decoration, pictures and frames, clocks: Swedish colloquial expressions, also names of Swedish places
• Carpets: names of Danish places
• Chairs, desks: men’s names
• Children’s items: mammals, birds, adjectives
• Curtain accessories: mathematical and geometrical terms
• Dining tables and chairs: names of Finnish places
• Fabrics, curtains: women’s names
• Garden furniture: Swedish islands
• Kitchen accessories: foreign words, spices, herbs, fish, mushrooms, fruits or berries, functional descriptions
• Kitchens: grammatical terms, sometimes also other names
• Lighting: terms from music, chemistry, meteorology, measures, weights, seasons, months, days, boats, nautical terms
• Upholstered furniture, coffee tables, rattan furniture, bookshelves, media storage, doorknobs: names of Swedish places

Well in an irony, relating to me being 'generous' that Harry needs book shelves, it seems that the Ikea 'Harald' would be a bookcase range...

Perhaps it would be a very small bookcase? A tabletop one?

or a magazine rack?

It's important to know this - they weren't being treated differently at all.

But they perceived a slight. Where there was none. Which tells you something about their mental state.

Everyone ( including them) seems to have forgotten that they also had a large house within the Soho Farmhouse Complex in the Cotswolds . £2.5 m valuation in 2018

the woman who designed the interiors for SFH was employed by them to do up Frogmore.

We had to buy our Notts Cott furniture from Ikea on M's credit card- boo hoo
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 06/01/2023 11:00

Wonder if he (she) bought a Socktopus?

On another note, I'd bloody love to live in Nott Cott! Spot on location, cosy little cottage, super safe, in the grounds of a beautiful Palace, friends and family a stones throw away etc.

I'd not want to move into the big cavernous rooms of the main Palace.

Not entirely without comment then Grin

This was even covered in The Windsors (well, kind of) 😁 'Puppa' says to Kate about the art she and Wills have in the apartment and Kate tells her it doesn't belong to them- they are just custodians of it.

I knew Harry wasn't that bright but I'm really shocked at just how dim he is.

Off-topic but did you know that the woman who plays Kate is with Rowan Atkinson and they have a young child together?

She was about 32 and he was about 58 when they met and had an affair.

watcherintherye · 06/01/2023 11:03

He was surrounded by family that loved him, with a fantastic education, great friends, he had a great time in the army (very well liked).

What’s all this about?!

This is all about Meghan’s (non- existent) understanding of how the Royal Family works. It’s her dissatisfaction with ‘The Firm’ writ large, and feeding into Harry’s (understandable) insecurities. Imo.

Ilovelabradorcuddles · 06/01/2023 11:04

@GyozaGuiting it’s actually desperately sad. I was initially incredulous at the extract published in The Guardian yesterday morning and was endlessly entertained by the older horse woman/spanking thread yesterday but am now really concerned (well as much as I can be for someone I don’t know who wouldn’t give two hoots about me) that this will end very badly. Who on earth is going to want to have anything to do with him now (particularly as there are apparently more books to follow)? There are millions of people in the world in far worse circumstances who have far more of my sympathy for their situation, but honestly, shame on those around him who allowed this nonsense to ever see the light of day. I’m reminded of the very public unraveling of poor Britney’s mental health in the noughties.
