Really?
Another statement probably way off the truth.

H is reported as saying they were amazed when they visited W&C in Kensington Palace and saw the art work, the furniture etc etc.

Whereas HE had to kit out Notts Cott with Ikea stuff that M bought using her CC. (Harrods is just down the road as is John Lewis .)

Has he forgotten the £millions of tax payers' money that was used to tart up Nott Cott?

And that he's now had to pay back as they buggered off the US soon afterwards?

Yet another warped statement, oozing with unfounded jealousy.

Because PA was the queen's favourite son

The IKEA names system seems to be quite simple, when it is going by the following rules:

• Bathroom articles: names of Scandinavian lakes, rivers and bays
• Bedlinen, bed covers, pillows/cushions: flowers, plants, precious stones
• Beds, wardrobes, hall furniture: names of Norwegian places
• Bookcase ranges: occupations, Scandinavian boy’s names
• Bowls, vases, candles, and candle holders: names of Swedish places, descriptive words, spices, herbs, fruits and berries
• Boxes, wall decoration, pictures and frames, clocks: Swedish colloquial expressions, also names of Swedish places
• Carpets: names of Danish places
• Chairs, desks: men’s names
• Children’s items: mammals, birds, adjectives
• Curtain accessories: mathematical and geometrical terms
• Dining tables and chairs: names of Finnish places
• Fabrics, curtains: women’s names
• Garden furniture: Swedish islands
• Kitchen accessories: foreign words, spices, herbs, fish, mushrooms, fruits or berries, functional descriptions
• Kitchens: grammatical terms, sometimes also other names
• Lighting: terms from music, chemistry, meteorology, measures, weights, seasons, months, days, boats, nautical terms
• Upholstered furniture, coffee tables, rattan furniture, bookshelves, media storage, doorknobs: names of Swedish places

Well in an irony, relating to me being 'generous' that Harry needs book shelves, it seems that the Ikea 'Harald' would be a bookcase range...

Mind blown.

Did you actually see pictures of where Harry & Meghan were living when she first moved to London? I know that it was on the grounds of Kensington palace and had a little paved garden - but it was a kinda dingy and cheap little unit with ratty carpet and cheap furniture

I posted a link to pictures up thread. It’s not ‘dingy and cheap unit’ at all, although it is little.
It’s a lovely little period cottage with it’s own private walled garden, located in the fanciest part of London.

www.insider.com/meghan-and-harry-netflix-home-tour-kensington-palace-nottingham-cottage-2022-12

it’s a charming chocolate-box cottage that has been utilised by at least two other newlywed royals. You must be well posh if you think this is ‘cheap’!

If true, why not? Andrew and Sarah married in the Abbey, didn’t they?

It isn't true. At the time, it was claimed by the Palace that H&M wanted a smaller wedding. In one recent interview (Oprah, or maybe the Netflix series) they said they didn't even want the size of wedding they did have, that they'd have preferred a smaller one.

Pardon my ignorance, but aren't working royals not allowed to make an income?

If MM was forbidden from working then I can see why she would expect them to pay for things like furniture.

But wasn't Harry a working royal at the time & therefore getting an income?

Tbh if there was furniture that they could have had but they didn't want it I can see why it wouldn't be bought for them.

Well , if extracts/ quotes are true Harry told William they wanted WA but was told no . He then suggested St Paul’s but was told no because it was too grand and his parents were married there.
I understood that the Queen was keen for them to have a small wedding given that Meghan had been married before but H and M wanted the “ spectacle.”

I think Megan has always had the 'ick'. However the thought of marrying a Prince, having a title, fairytale wedding, living in a big palace and being one of the recognised women on the planet has helped her overcome it.
However the reality has not lived up to her expectations. So the 'ick' feeling must be felt even deeper now.
When she leaves him (which she will) he will be broken. It is really sad. Because you know when she does go she will sell stories and write books about her 'awful life with a drug taking prince'. Not to mention all the diaries and taped conversations she very likely has.

So how are they feeling this morning?
I'm assuming you know them personally as you have written with such authority about how Meghan feels about her husband and the state of of their relationship?
Or maybe you have just made up.a load of nonsense about somebody you know nothing about ...

OttersMayHaveShiftedInTransit · 06/01/2023 11:19

Apparently they wanted to marry in Westminster Abbey but were told no
Probably because it was a step too far for the Church of England for it to be used for the wedding of a divorcee - the actual King and Queen consort weren't allowed to marry in church at all.
The no boyfriend/girlfriends at Sandringham was also waived for her when it never was for any of the other grandchildren's partners. Far from starting at the point where Meghan was treated worse than others who married in she was actually given more leeway in the early days.

diddl · 06/01/2023 11:19

they didn't even want the size of wedding they did have, that they'd have preferred a smaller one.

But didn't they "graceiously" have the wedding they did so that others could see it & line the streets for the carriage ride?

diddl · 06/01/2023 11:20

that should be "graciously" of course.

AutumnDaysConkers · 06/01/2023 11:22

@x2boys bit touchy about it. But ok.
Time will tell. Come back to this thread when they divorce and she is writing her tell all book on it all.
You know it's going to happen. Just a matter of time.
It's a very sad situation.

Both stories could actually be true - H&M might’ve liked the Abbey best as a location but only wanted a limited number of guests.

it would make sense if they were told that WA would come with a massive international hoo-ha over the guestlist (look how many got squeezed in for the Queen’s funeral - 2000!) and the most practical/least controversial way to ensure they got the smaller scale wedding of their preference was to pick a smaller venue?

The reality if these things is usually more mundane than the rumour mill implies!

No none of us know because we don't know them 🙄

ScribblingPixie · 06/01/2023 11:28

So this just reads that Meghan didn't think much of the Harry's bachelor pad & the fact that he hadn't decorated or furnished it particularly well. But somehow that has turned into a grievance & it's implied that William & Kate were favoured. Just crazy. Did she think every single thing would be done for him without any input from him at all? He had an income from his father of £2 million a year and masses of antique furniture and art scattered around Royal properties that he could have asked for, but home decor obviously wasn't important to him.

ArseInTheDogBowl · 06/01/2023 08:28

This was even covered in The Windsors (well, kind of) 😁 'Puppa' says to Kate about the art she and Wills have in the apartment and Kate tells her it doesn't belong to them- they are just custodians of it.

I knew Harry wasn't that bright but I'm really shocked at just how dim he is.

Re. Dim and Notty Cotty
Harry said whoever lived there originally “ Must have been very small”
Anyone who has lived in a 16th/17th C cottage knows how low the ceilings and beams are-
People were much smaller then, in terms of height and weight.

Braining oneself on beams is a regular occurrence for those over 6 feet tall.

W&K lived there before H&M, so they’d have been living in the exact same conditions (photos don’t look that bad tho!).
Like W&K, H&M were later given a larger property to live in.
Harry moaning about the ‘unfairness’ when actually they ALL have immense privilege is at best tone deaf.

Intrepidescape · 06/01/2023 11:34

@RedToothBrush I agree with you completely.

As the scapegoat in my family, I had to speak up.

Intrepidescape · 06/01/2023 11:35

@Sputum they would have lived there when it was newer and not as ratty.

Kinnorafron · 06/01/2023 11:35

ZeroFuchsGiven · 06/01/2023 08:01

Well you would have thought so but I really think they thought the reaction would be different and the whole world would fall at their feet with deep sorrow of how they have been treated. They are that far up their own arse they would not expect any other reaction.

They aren't bothered about how any of this plays out anywhere except the USA, where it's working out fine for them.

MaggieFS · 06/01/2023 11:36

It's a complete mess and whilst I have little sympathy for Harry and the level of information he's choosing to make public, it's a great shame it's got to this state and they couldn't find any way to patch things up. Without knowing details, presumably Charles and William need to carry some of that responsibility too.

BadShepherd · 06/01/2023 11:40

The word “unit” used to describe a cottage designed by Christopher Wren himself is quite an erm… “unusual” turn of phrase.

Nottingham cottage is a period property, 1689 it would be worth many millions if it came onto open market because of it’s location.
Sounds like an American comment, where history is nothing.
Nottingham Cottage is far more attractive than Frogmore Cottage.

Markle clearly doesn’t understand that there are a myriad of antiques shops in the area where she could have furnished the place.
Far closer than Ikea. ( Hammersmith).

LivelyBlake · 06/01/2023 11:44

Didn’t they live in the Cotswolds for a while?

Iamwhatiam52 · 06/01/2023 10:15

I agree @Mellymoon . Seen it play out in my own family. It's horrible to watch and even though you try to make the 'Harry' in the situation try and see sense, they don't and you just have to sit on the side lines and watch the crash happen. Sad really.

I think that is the reason she has allowed the book to go out as it is because it paints her in a terrible light.

She is not stupid, she is using this book as divorce fodder to say just how he hung her out to dry.

JemimaTiggywinkles · 06/01/2023 11:44

The Nottingham Cottage stuff really annoys me. H&M were living there whilst the longer term property was being renovated for them. Almost everyone I know has / has a "doer-upper" as a starter home, and we actually have to live in them whilst improvements are being made! The were offered somewhere as fancy as W&K as a longer term home and chose not to live there.
