Surely its now over for the Royal Family. Any notion that they are in some way special or noble is completely gone now. They have all gravitas of a problem family on Jeremy Kyle. Why would anyone bow to them or look up to them is beyond me. There is no longer anything regal about them!

Liz Hurley has already had to deny it was her. It looks like it was trending on twitter for a while that it was her so she didn’t just randomly insert herself into the conversation.

Well we have to have a head of state. They will cost whatever. I like seeing the pomp & ceremony.

This is my country too and they represent it to the outside world. To me they are just another example of the many things that hold us back. We can do so much better than this pantomime soap opera we call a monarchy.

I really think the Royal Family are the least of your worries when it comes to how the UK is represented to the outside world.

Even the Meghan and Harry supporters have mostly gone quiet on these threads. I think he’s scored an own goal, and has done a great job of trashing his own character. Must admit, I’m surprised at how dumb he comes across - can only imagine he pushed through all this information and ignored advice from his PR team.

I support they but these threads are exhausting. The people who hate them have that much distain for them it is impossible to have any sort of balanced conversation.

As I said previously, Harry said he wanted a family, not an institution. His father and brother have picked the latter.

I hope most sensible people who are interested in RF either in a positive or negative way would make an informed opinion by reading the whole book and not one based only on sensational extracts.

Of course we are basing our opinions on the excerpts leaked, which we assume are authentic. I’m sure there will be plenty more in the book, but the bits we have seen already speak for themselves. And the part about how many Afghans he killed, and viewing them as sub human - there are no words….

This brief extract comes across as a soldier trying to cope with having to kill people in the context of a war- trying to cope with the horror of it. However it might be worthwhile reading it in the whole context of the book before jumping to your conclusions?

Don’t hold your breath, the RF are going nowhere. In a society who loves stuff like Eastenders and Coronation Street we have our own real life soap opera for our delectation. If anything there’ll be even bigger crowds cheering them on. I have no desire to see the end of the RF, my £1 a year contribution to them is far better value for money than my tv licence.

Is this Prince Harry who wants his family and not the institution or is it the Duke of Sussex, or perhaps it’s just plain Harry (no, he’s never plain Harry is he?). Why doesn’t he put his money where his mouth is and voluntarily drop all institutional titles to prove he doesn’t want the institution? He won’t though, will he?

The ones who genuinely like M and H seem to have gone quiet. The anti monarchist ones who see M and H as useful idiots have just switched to bland 'the RF are a laughing stock and must go NOW' statements.

I find it odd really. I don't mind having a RF, I think it's an important part of our history and actually I think a lot of the individuals do good work, but beyond that I don't think about them that much and certainly wouldn't bow to anyone. But M and H seem to want people to pick a side and so I guess I am (like it or not) a monarchist.

Most people won't read the book. Even if it's successful, that's inevitable. The numbers who are exposed via bits and bobs from the media, memes their mates send them etc will be much, much higher. The majority who form an opinion will be doing so based on these sensational extracts, that's a given. It doesn't much matter whether anyone else thinks that's reasonable or not, it's the landscape that the book is going to be interpreted and consumed in.

I'm having a shit time right now and this has actually made me properly laugh and lifted my mood. It's worth having a royal family for this alone.
