Exactly @clyspa. If their showbiz and media mates are backing off it’s because they have nothing concrete to side with. Vagueness will only carry you so far before people start to get fed up of championing baseless claims.

JC and SH can be loosely pointed to as evidence for some claims but ultimately circumstantial without standing by their accusations and detailing whatever it is they’re talking about.

I recently learned something that made me sort of understand Harry's behaviour a little more. An impeccable source (e.g. in the room when it happened) said that Diana, whilst lovely in general - if she didn't get what she wanted could tantrum like a small child. Even over relatively small things. Talking screaming, crying, throwing things, rolling around on the floor.

I can't speak about Charles but seems he is used to getting his own way too.

Harry not only has this 'Spencer' type of behaviour in his genes but in his most formative years he observed this. Diana is almost sainted in modern day culture.

You don't get what you want then you throw your toys out of the pram.

Does anyone actually realise that the present royal family are not responsible for the wrongdoing of their forefathers?
Does anyone realise that Britain is not the only nation that had an empire?
Does anyone realise that no country is obliged to remain in the Commonwealth?
Just remind me which nation was at the forefront of abolishing slavery.......oh wait, that was Great Britain was it not?

Very true, and not said often enough.
A recent nation to join the Commonwealth (2022, I think) was part of the French Empire in Africa. Gained freedom in approx 1960, and after the usual post-imperial difficulties, applied to join the Commonwealth. The Head of State is the President elected by Universal Suffrage

Diana and Charles parenting clearly did a huge amount of damage. I don’t understand why anyone could be a fan of either. Both seemed like horribly selfish people

Then there was Charles Spencer and that very out of order speech at Diana’s funeral. There’s something very odd about them generally.

And this, children, is what a failed Turing test looks like.

😁🤣😁😄🤩😁😆

I have (and I do have to be vague here) a relative who was as close as can be with the Spencers in the 1970s/80s. I was young then, but they told my mother that there was something not right about Diana.

Also working in tv some years later there was a story (kept in the cupboard, as it were) that one of the princes was having treatment for mental health problems (would have been called just “mental problems” back then if I recall) but the lowly staff were not privy to which Prince it was.

You mean that eulogy that the entire nation applauded? That speech?

Walnutwhipsarenothesame · 03/01/2023 15:51

Yes but in retrospect it was bat shit. At the time I thought it was marvellous.

Yes I remember it being very much celebrated

I think it’s just that TM is a pal and he knows there won’t be any real challenge to his views.

Oh please.

All authors have to go on a press tour. All actors in shoes and movies have to do press tours. It is in their contract.

ArcaneWireless · 03/01/2023 16:11

Entire nation applauded?

I’m not sure about that. We thought it bloody rude ands lot of my forces colleagues thought the same.

I’m from a little quiet corner where you didn’t bring your business into the Kirk though so maybe that is why it gave me that opinion.

And I also I was one of the minority who wasn’t keen on Diana and couldn’t believe the tidal wave of public grief.

I fully accept I am a product of my upbringing!

Applesonthelawn · 03/01/2023 16:11

That eulogy that his friend Boris heavily edited for him (according to Charles Spencer himself)? Sounds sooooo like the Boris we later came to know.

I agree. I wasn’t keen on Diana either, I thought she was quite strange. I did feel that she was far too young to be swept up into her role though.
There is no doubt that she loved her sons, but many terrible parents also love their children. The feeling itself isn’t enough to be a good parent. Diana by all accounts laid a lot of her emotion and anxiety onto William in particular, I think he had the toughest childhood of the two boys. Harry has completely idealised her.

Mummyoflittledragon · 03/01/2023 16:25

I agree the eulogy was definitely not celebrated by all being rude and toe curling in parts.

Interesting comment about Diana if she didn’t get her own way. I can well understand why she would be so volatile. Her mother just upped and left one day. Disappeared. Diana apparently sat waiting at the door for her every day for months.

Well, thank God for Catherine! Let's hope her normal happy upbringing can make the generation more stable.

ArcaneWireless · 03/01/2023 16:32

Harry has completely idealised her.

And that is the problem. She was human and was flawed. I want to say like the rest of us but I think it was more than that. Putting her on such a lofty pedestal isn’t right.

I can well believe that the tantrum thing mentioned above happened.

And yes, I too think William really bore the brunt of it. That isn’t to say that Harry wasn’t aware of everything and found it damaging but to me he gives the impression that he is the only one who carries the burden of those times.

He isn’t.

BadgerB · 03/01/2023 16:33

should have said "the next generation"

TheCockatoosCrest · 03/01/2023 16:36

I think the Spencer's can lack a certain degree of rationality. The incident I am referring to with Diana occurred overseas. She decided she wanted to go somewhere. She was told no, too dangerous and also that she would be mobbed with fans and paps. She became hysterical. This wasn't even for anything important - not to see a dangerously ill child or someone she could help. It was a purely social event.

So you can see the dichotomy as well. 'They failed to protect my mother from the press' - well you can see at times it was difficult to protect Diana from herself never mind the press.

What are you talking about? It’s not a tour, it’s a one off interview. If you are referring to the tour in Africa, I’m not talking about that. TB is a personal friend .

onlylarkin · 03/01/2023 16:49

It is called a press tour in the US.

Every time a movie or a book is released, the people in the movie or author of the book is contractually required to do a press tour, ie. Interviews.

They are promoting the end product.

A tangent, I know, but I've never understood this AI/bot thing ... are there supposed to be ready made comments which folk push a button for or something?

I'm no wiser after googling it, so if anyone has the patience to explain it to an old gimmer who's hopeless with tech it would be really appreciated

I don't think anyone had a go at answering this yet? I'll have a crack.

So basically, an AI (Artificial Intelligence) 'chatbot' or 'bot' is a program that simulates human conversations using NLP (natural language processing).

Normally they are designed to act as an interface between businesses and their customers on websites (British Gas anyone???!) and vary in effectiveness.

These 'bot' programmes can be tweaked and deployed to act as fake posters on chat boards, Twitter, Facebook - anywhere that's free to use attracts them, basically. Elon Musk knew/knows that there are huge numbers of them on Twitter.

A clever bot owner might occasionally take over from the bot to make a few sensible and personal posts, to keep up the charade more convincingly. These hybrid 'botsters' get paid but very poorly.

It's very very cheap way to keep repeating a message, whether it be political propaganda, celebrity twaddle or erm, other things.

AutumnCrow · 02/01/2023 23:31

Maybe Rome can remind us of the eternity of its powerful emperors. Eventually all this nonsense is gotten rid of by sensible modern minds.

No actual human writes like this. It's an AI program.

I think the use of "gotten" might be a slight giveaway about the nationality of the writer. 'Tisn't English English; it's American.

I can't in any case make out what on earth all this drivel is supposed to be for; it's incoherent and doesn't seem to have any particular point to make except "I don't like the Royal Family". Well, it's possible to dislike the RF and dislike Prince Harry as well.

Roussette · 03/01/2023 16:56

My DD says 'gotten'. English born and lives here.
