Princess Kate wore £176,664 worth of clothing for 138 engagements in 2022.

How do you feel about this?

Kate's most expensive fashion year yet! Princess of Wales wore a record £176,664 worth of new clothes in 2022

My understanding is she wears almost all british clothing brands which is a massive international advert for our fashion industry, she wears something it sells out. As pp have said this isn't paid for the tax payer and although they do pay for the stuff I'm sure there are discounts and I know she also re wears items/outfits (which people then slate them for so they cant win really)

The Queen of Spain wears Mango dresses. I know that Kate sometimes wears Jigsaw, etc but I do think that there could be more nice high street brands worn which would cost a lot less than the designer stuff she normally wears.

Kate wears a lot of high street brands, Hobbs, Jigsaw, Accessorize, LK Bennett, Reiss, Zara (also Mango). She wears small British brands, and occasional higher end designers for special events.

Why not?

Because she isn't a princess by birth and hasn't been created a princess in her own right. She is the Princess of Wales. She could style herself 'Princess William' but not 'Princess Catherine'.

Ok, i'll still call her Princess Kate, don't think she'll mind.

Princess Kate, Princess Meghan - no harm done, is there?

The Queen of Spain manages just fine I think.

How can it possibly bother you so much - people have different needs and different budgets - this whole attitude of not spending money because not everyone can afford it is ridiculous.

Samcro · 31/12/2022 17:19

StormzyinaTCup · 31/12/2022 16:38

Well... as Meghan was referred to as 'Markle' (without her first name) on another thread more than once and when someone questioned this and asked if it was OK to call Kate/Catherine 'Middleton' that appeared to be a question they didn't want to answer.

And, as I answered you on the other thread, MM is now a CELEBRITY, it's the life she has chosen for herself and therefore now shouldn't be an issue for her to be addressed as such same as Clarkson, Morgan, Winfrey, Clooney, Markle. As with any celebrity as long as she is being talked about I expect she doesn't give two hoots whether it's by her first name or last name.

Well seeing as late is married to one of the kings sons same as Meghan, that must make her a celebrity too.
back to the thread. It’s an obscene amount to spend on clothes. She doesn’t do that much, so madness.
but in a way the public are partly to blame the as they bang on about what she wear’s

Hmm, no one can be said to need £179k worth of clothes in a year - even if they started with no clothes at all, which the PoW certainly did not.

FrownedUpon · 31/12/2022 17:22

OP you’re so boring. Stop trying to create drama. More M&H PR crap.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 31/12/2022 17:24

It is disgusting - there is no such thing as 'their own pockets' for the RF - everything they have ultimately was funded by the people of this country.

mondaytosunday · 31/12/2022 17:24

She represents England. She uses a fair amount of UK designers. What do you expect her to wear? Either she is spending too much or she is looking too drab and high street. Can't win can she?

I'm talking about the responders, they don't seem bothered.

It bothers me. The thought of that layabout (see the other thread on here showing that, even within her realm of privilege, the PoW does very little) indulging her vanity by spending £1000s on clothes while many ordinary folk are sitting in freezing cold houses because they can't afford their heating bills makes me feel sick, actually.

Can’t disagree with that at all.

£177,000 for a year doesn’t seem bad when you consider that Meghan’s engagement dress alone cost about £80, 000!

Hardly a fair comparison, the engagement dress was a special buy for a special occasion, am sure Kate's engagement dress was just as expensive. Why drag Meghan into this thread 🙄 if my FIL was KC to be fair I'd take advantage of the fact he was willing to pay for my clothes and wouldn't go to Primark 🤷

Katherine’s engagement dress was £385

Royals cannot accept freebies, so all their clothing, along with everything else, is paid for.

Really?

Prince Harry’s wedding and Archie’s baptism photographs were not only taken for free the photographer also has no copyright over them.

highfidelity · 31/12/2022 18:32

@Anotherbloomingchristmas

Given the thread, was referring to clothes, accessories and related accoutrements. I hope that clarifies things.

Am a little puzzled why you would mention Prince Harry and photograph in a thread about the Princess of Wales' clothing?

HamBone · 31/12/2022 19:11

I would have expected her clothing’s costs to be much higher, tbh. Some celebrities wear activewear/sportswear that sells for hundreds per item, like customized hoodies. I just did a quick Google and even plain designer leggings can sell for £200-£500.

She looks stylish, reuses clothing, and supports British designers. I don’t have a problem with it.

Indeed @LadyKenya , good correction.
