Princess Kate wore £176,664 worth of clothing for 138 engagements in 2022.

How do you feel about this?

Kate's most expensive fashion year yet! Princess of Wales wore a record £176,664 worth of new clothes in 2022

Sorry, but the article even states that it's not known whether full price is paid for her clothes, nobody knows the cost of made to measure items so they've guessed, there's lots of rewears, championing British brands and designers, and I'm guessing much of the big ticket jewellery is loaned or part of the royal collection. There's a lot of guesswork going on .

pinneddownbytabbies · 31/12/2022 16:08

£176k is one week's wages for a footballer, so that might bring it into proportion somewhat.

In any case, it is well known that outfits worn by the previous Princess of Wales were auctioned off and the proceeds donated to charity. Perhaps Kate might decide to do similar.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 31/12/2022 16:08

So then.....? They pay for their own clobber? What's the issue here?

Personally I don't think there is one, but the PP mentioned that Charles is still paying and I thought she might like to know he almost certainly isn't

Roussette · 31/12/2022 16:09

I find it a bit pathetic... I saw an article somewhere, she's got about ten or was it 12 red coats.

I wish they would start to do things differently. Do we just want a clothes horse, or do we want someone championing young british fashion designers, british unknowns. She has the perfect height and figure to do this. And she obviously loves fashion. Why not?

I am tired of the RF just carrying on like they did over the last 70 years. Why not shake things up and appeal to those that aren't die hard royalists.

Coxspurplepippin · 31/12/2022 16:11

'do we want someone championing young british fashion designers, british unknowns.'

She does, very often.

cinnabongene · 31/12/2022 16:13

Who is ‘Princess Kate’?

Well... it's not publicised enough then, because I know nothing about it.

I know what her favourite brands and designers are (famous ones) but know nothing about unknown british designers.

Suzi888 · 31/12/2022 16:13

Does the tax payer foot the bill? If so, it’s in bad taste.
The RF are finished now anyway, Andrew saw to that.

Bloody hell give it time, her maj is barely cold.

smilesy · 31/12/2022 16:15

As OP is a self confessed “Meghan Stan”, I suspect this thread is just another attempt to paint the Princess of Wales in a bad light. I don’t understand why she has to be seen to “lose” so that the Duchess of Sussex can “win”. Or vice versa in the case of Princess of Wales fans. It seems a very immature way to carry on 🙄🤷‍♀️😆

What? What has the queen dying to do with it?

She's been married for over ten years?

If you mean about the shaking things up, I understand. Let's see.....

Middleton

So the Princess of Wales?
Purposefully misnaming her really makes some of you look pathetic

Well... as Meghan was referred to as 'Markle' (without her first name) on another thread more than once and when someone questioned this and asked if it was OK to call Kate/Catherine 'Middleton' that appeared to be a question they didn't want to answer.

mumda · 31/12/2022 16:17

Having looked at the prices of some of the "essentials" that people have posted about on clothes threads on here, then I wouldn't be surprised if mumsnetters tend towards that annual clothes budgets.

ImBlueDab · 31/12/2022 16:18

Jesus, are we now bored of slagging off Meghan we're now onto Kate. There doesn't have to be either or, we can like both of them/

How is it different to people saying Prince Charles for years? I think I heard that more than I heard people say the Prince of Wales

Itsthewhitehat · 31/12/2022 16:21

Where’s the official breakdown of this?

The daily mail article talks alot about jewellery. For example ‘at x even Kate wore new jewels worth £10k.’

If they are adding that in, it wouldn’t be accurate. Because she unlikely spent 10k on the jewellery. It would have been hired (possibly for free) or something the family already had.

unsync · 31/12/2022 16:21

Assuming you mean Katherine, Princess of Wales? That money is not from the public purse. Furthermore, it has gone into the UK economy, is spent on British designers and encourages others to also spend their money on British goods. What exactly do you take issue with here?

Shesasuperfreak · 31/12/2022 16:21

It is not uncommon for members of royal families to wear expensive clothing for public engagements. Such clothing is often donated or loaned by designers and brands, and is considered part of the role of a royal. The value of the clothing worn by Princess Kate, or any other member of the royal family, is not necessarily a reflection of their personal wealth or spending habits.

Terrible, especially when people can't afford to eat and heat.

What do you think?

This makes no sense, they Royal family have always had wealth and people have always struggled, what do you want the princess of Wales do ? I mean feel free to start the revolution

So you feel that way about anyone rich who spends their money?

Because he actually is a Prince, by right of birth. Katherine isn’t and by calling her ‘Princess Kate’ it’s obvious that it’s meant to bring her down a peg or two

Having just watched the whole of 'Marie Antionette' a superb dramatisation just out on BBC2/iPlayer.... I can quite understand how the revolution came about!
