I have finally watched all episodes. It was much better than I was expecting and bore no resemblance to what was talked about for hours and hours by some posters on here.
I am interested in discussing the programme with people who have watched it all. What struck me was:

  1. Harry clearly says Charles leaked the content of Harrys private letter to Charles, to the press.
  2. William when younger had agreed with Harry that neither of them would behave as Charles had with his press office. But William went back on that and behaved the same way.
  3. The Palace leaked the location of where Harry and Meghan were staying in Canada.
  4. The small number of social media accounts run by mainly white middle-aged women who push hate for both of them but especially Meghan.
  5. The myth that Meghan is controlling Harry is recognised by him as misogyny.

I think they were clearly right to leave.

Also, didn't the palace try it, and lie and say they were not approached, then changed their story, but omitted that they wanted to see the footage and were denied.

I suspect they realised then that the time of lying non stop about the Sussexes is over.

Harry sent a private letter to Charles. The contents were leaked.

He didn’t say Charles leaked it though. The inference was that his aides had leaked it.

No an unidentified third party approached a member of their staff for comment. They asked this third party to verify their identity. They didn’t reply.

Walnutwhipsarenothesame · 24/12/2022 22:58

Why would they comment on a series they hadn’t seen to an unidentified third party?

Walnutwhipsarenothesame · 24/12/2022 22:58

Why would they comment on a series they hadn’t seen to an unidentified third party?

But why say they were not approached.

Why would they not do a check on a company that asks them. Why put out a denial. Sounds sloppy or calculated to me.

notanotheroneagain · 24/12/2022 23:05

Speaking of security, interesting that they confirmed that Suits did provide all that security for MM. I remember seeing a clip of one of the producers (a male, not Silver) saying this. Atleast they had care for her wellbeing.

Walnutwhipsarenothesame · 24/12/2022 23:05

I think they hadn’t twigged that they had been approached because it was an unverified party asking for comment, which must happen a lot. Some minion gets and email, sends a standard reply and hears no more.

They said they hadn’t seen anything in advance. They then said they were contacted by an unidentified third party and that Netflix didn’t clarify if this approach was from them. So as far as they were concerned, Netflix hadn’t approached them. It is possible that Netflix were gaming the situation by saying that this third party approach was indeed from them, even though they didn’t confirm it to the Palace. Who knows?

So what happened to 'no comment' while they check? Is that not what they always say. Especially knowing that H&M get slammed all the time.

It was the production company, they would have said, even if they didn't the palace could have asked, who are you exactly? Then go check with Netflix and Archewell if anyone knows who this is.

Analysing it, the palace sounds eve more suspicious actually.

meinteresamucho · 24/12/2022 23:25

They aid they received an email from a third party and when asked for confirmation of specifics they didn't hear anything back. So I think they presumed it was just people fishing for information or scammers or something. At some point further down the line they realised this was from the production team but as they had a name they didn't recognise they had written it off before then and I'd say that was fair enough. I'd have done the same.

Astonished that so many people who don't believe a word of what they read in the press are quite happy to believe everything this pair say without question and without any sort of fact checking! It's as if they're a trustworthy source! The Daily Mail has more credibility!

Harry sent a private letter to Charles. The contents were leaked.

And Charles kept insisting he needed it in writing

Any leaking has to be authorised by the RF

As pp have said, unfortunately the Sussexes over-egg things and have been caught out. I don’t believe that they actually want the privacy and peace they claim to want.

They have never claimed any such.

Exactly
This is another thing the media have twisted
They are activists and passionate about their causes.

Reindeersnooker · 24/12/2022 23:50

I don't think all of it is true, in all likelihood. The will be huge holes in the context. But it seems likely that enough was true for them to leave. They should always have been free to leave anyway and no amount of abuse is too small if you want to go. A family should be able to do what's best for them and it clearly was.

However it was so slow. I don't think they're terribly interesting as people to watch so hopefully that's it now.

Reindeersnooker · 24/12/2022 23:52

I have huge sympathy for anyone who is passionate about causes but something about the way they do it feels self regarding and like charidee. It's not how the real enthusiasts get into it, at least not at first. They are not at the stage when they should be picking up awards. They haven't done enough and aren't experienced enough.

Walnutwhipsarenothesame · 24/12/2022 23:53

What HAVE they actually done? I genuinely can’t think of anything apart from Invictus.

I think they are really watchable. I guess Netflix think so too, hence paying them a squillion dollars.

They are both articulate, funny and passionate. Meghan just has that star quality.

@notanotheroneagain Glad you got it done. I am ready. We are all going to midnight mass later so teens just went to spend time online. DP is having a nap.

It surprised me just how much the actual programme varied from what was talked about on here. And how many outright lies were told as well.

Just like newspaper headlines, best ignored. Often the articles are rubbish and/or have no relation to the headline.

glad you watched it.

I don't know about Harry
but before Meghan met him, she was UN Ambassador and had another role about clean water in areas of need

I think she'd backed entrepreneurs and done charity events in Hollywood. Here there's the SmartWorks stuff. (i gave them literally all my suits when I went freelance, maybe should have kept one).

after she got married, I know less - but the Grenfell visits and cookbook. I think she kept that quiet for a long time.

Jennybeans401 · 25/12/2022 00:07

I doubt Charles or William would leak information but there soundsto be someone who has leaked stories who maybe works in the Palace.

I think the press were vile to Meghan and I understand why they left. But I also think they sound a bit paranoid at times, I don't see William doing anything wrong.

It's a shame to see a family divided.

Walnutwhipsarenothesame · 25/12/2022 00:08

They seem very paranoid to me. It’s not healthy.

The Grenfell thing was a surprise to me. She kept her visits quiet. The comment about how they like to kiss on both cheeks and there'd be 50 of them and she'd be like "oh my god, oh my god" was so funny 🤣

Yes the palace lied and were caught out in the lie and had to effectively retract it.

@EmmaAgain22 Thanks.

Interesting as well even though I say I want a thread for those who have actually watched this, there are comments from some who clearly have not watched it saying I have never heard about these leaks can you post a link. Just watch the programme. The leaks are very obvious.

meinteresamucho · 25/12/2022 00:40

I don't doubt that the palace lies all the time (they're on record as saying the lied for Meghan in her court docs) but there's no evidence they lied here. The email was from a third party and wasn't obviously linked to H&M or Netflix (but claimed it was and nobody responded when they tried to clarify - that hasn't been denied by H&M or Netflix afaia but correct me if I'm wrong.
