The royal family

If you watched all of Netflix H&M

I have finally watched all episodes. It was much better than I was expecting and bore no resemblance to what was talked about for hours and hours by some posters on here.
I am interested in discussing the programme with people who have watched it all. What struck me was:

  1. Harry clearly says Charles leaked the content of Harrys private letter to Charles, to the press.
  2. William when younger had agreed with Harry that neither of them would behave as Charles had with his press office. But William went back on that and behaved the same way.
  3. The Palace leaked the location of where Harry and Meghan were staying in Canada.
  4. The small number of social media accounts run by mainly white middle-aged women who push hate for both of them but especially Meghan.
  5. The myth that Meghan is controlling Harry is recognised by him as misogyny.

I think they were clearly right to leave.

It is strange to me that the same people who were fine and dandy with around 50 articles per day from one paper regarding H&M are now quite fed up with a handful of interviews from H&H.

Harry can spend the next 30 odd years putting it out there for history books what his view is. God knows we had other side spin what they like about him.

I also find it funny that ITV are only showing us bits and parts of the upcoming interview. Nothing about the part where H explains that the whole statement is a brief from the palace.

Perhaps the lawyers have been in touch since the initial airing?

notanotheroneagain · 03/01/2023 16:40

Lawyers have been in touch to tell the British Press to not air that part? Don't think so.

I also see a lot of the 'H wants his father and brother back'. Nothing on this one where he says there is so going back to the institution.

No you would not, it has slanted ceilings. H is over 6ft tall.

Yet, you do accept that it was too small for a small family of 2adults and 2dc. There is a lot of people who live in mews houses with the same number or more children than that.

I am not sure where you are going with your point? I would not live there because I bought a larger house. If I was moving from a rented condo in suburban Toronto to a grace-and-favour gated home as a newly wed then I would be ecstatic to live there.

I am sure families can squeeze into a mews house but they are often choosing to pay over a million for a shoe box in a postcode otherwise out of their reach. They could take their money out of central London and buy something wonderful. I would in their position, especially if they are cramped and miserable. It would give the neighbours some peace and quiet as well.

Are you aware that there are two entirely different interviews scheduled with different journalists, on different continents on different networks / channels - each with their own trailer.

Why would (how could) ITV promote the CBS content whilst they are sharing their own trailer to promote their own programme?

Hepwo · 03/01/2023 19:13

They also had a country home, next to the Soho Farmhouse.

I genuinely believe that Meghan thought being a HRH would allow her to live in an actual fairytale castle. I very much doubt she'd ever even heard of Sir Christopher Wren.

ITV are showing the other interview in the US, but are chopping it up to show certain parts of it and leaving certain parts out.

Why are you posting this, knowing very well it was compromised .

Pics of the bedrooms, bathroom and other living areas we're splashed all over the place. Why would they live there?

For those who actually watched it.

Harry says he was given 5 options, but only named 3. What are the other 2?
Could some of them involve leaving MM and Archie. He obviously did not chose them, but I can't think of what it is.

LBFseBrom · 04/01/2023 09:14

I've watched it all the way through twice, and some episodes three times but I honestly don't remember that bit. I will now log in to Netflix...........

WinnieFosterReads · 04/01/2023 11:08

There are literally hundreds of options they could have offered eg H&M taking a year out abroad; an option where M went back to work and H remained a working royal; H taking a military position somewhere and them both moving there; a diplomatic role overseas for them both; reduced hours for them both as working royals so they could adjust to marriage and parenthood; some kind of community service role (like William and the air ambulance) etc.
I thought it was very telling M felt the meeting was because of her so she should have been there. It was Harry's family and Harry's lifelong role and Harry's family business in a way. It gave the impression that not only did M not understand how a monarchy works but she doesn't understand close, big families either or family businesses. There were so many culture and experience gaps between them.
If I was M I'd be annoyed with Netflix. The series made her seem gauche, insular and a bit stupid (which I don't think she is) whilst making H seem smarter.

Valentine Low outlined all of them in his “Courtiers” book recently.

Can’t recall the details but variations on 0% in/out, 50% in/out, 100% in/out - so maybe 25% or 75% - also all of the geographical options Africa / NZ / Canada I think were discussed.

Walnutwhipsarenothesame · 04/01/2023 16:23

They were clearly loose cannons so any continuing role would have been fraught with problems. M couldn’t go back to being an actress because of security issues. Plus she had left Suits and could hardly go back to working in that as a Royal. Protection would have been the issue it became anyway. It couldn’t have been provided by the Met and paid for by the tax payer.
Harry couldn’t have gone back to doing a job in the Army for the same reasons. Plus he left because he didn’t want a desk job.
You can’t have loose canons in a diplomatic role. They wouldn’t have listened to advice or behaved appropriately. They are a liability , inside or out.

If Meghan seemed gauche on Netflix, it’s her own fault. Her own words and actions.

Beachbabe1 · 04/01/2023 16:43

I watched the whole thing. They both came across really well. You can clearly see how in love they are. Harry has hated the media since they hounded his mother to death and didnt want the same thing happening to his wife! The royal press office definitely leaked nasty stories about meghan to bring her down a peg or two. They didnt want her to be the most popular royal. The media have hounded her and turned the country against her from their vile stories imo. I mean what has the woman done wrong?!
The royal family & their counterparts definitely have racist undertones whether they like to believe it or not!
I applaud their bravery! Going against the norm and doing what's right for their family...isn't that what we all strive to do!?
They are a brilliant team, they both want to do so much for people (just like Diana) and they could've been an amazing asset to the royal family!! Bringing a different view of the world, working alongside the commonwealth! Why didnt the royal family let them move to Africa and work as patrons there??? They would be amazing role models!! The way Meghan has been treated in the UK shows how racist this country really is!!

Interesting the two views people have on this from watching the same programme.
I don't think H&M have behaved very well at all but I hope they can lead happy lives and manage to allow their children to see both grandfathers.

Clearly that’s not going to happen though is it?

I haven't seen any of the episodes so can't comment on how they came across. I'm curious, though, in an interview, Meghan implied she wasnt that happy with the how their story was told. From watching it, could you see what she might be unhappy about or would like to have been presented or portrayed differently?

Maybe the series was too direct with the allegations against the palace. Maybe H&M wanted a more subtle approach. Who knows. Give it a watch

I don't have Netflix or I might have done. That's a fair comment, hoping for more subtlety. It would tie in with the reports that they wanted to soften it up after the Quens death but Garbus wouldn't.
I've no doubt it will eventually be on Sky or Channel 4. I can always, watch it then. Thanks for responding.

Diana wasn't hounded to death. A crazy reckless driver smashed into a solid object at high speed. She wasn't wearing a seatbelt. The security guard employed to keep her boyfriend safe tried to stop them getting in the car and was overruled by her boyfriend. If anyone is culpable it's the deadly stupid man she was with. The press had followed her for 20 years by then, how many times did she ignore all the safety advice? Once was too many. Why did she not wear a seatbelt, what a basic mistake. As a mother I would not risk myself like that ever.

The rest of these claims are so insane to be not worth bothering with.

purpleme12 · 04/01/2023 23:10

I'm on the last episode
I don't understand exactly who this man is whose they stayed at but who they'd never met before?
But he seemed to write to Meghan out of the blue? And she rang him crying when she didn't know him?
I don't understand

PreparationPreparationPrep · 04/01/2023 23:29

Tyler Perry - google him!

meinteresamucho · 04/01/2023 23:48

Think he's a friend of Oprah. As someone said they did the interview for free, supposedly but then one of her massively wealthy friends seems to have offered them free accommodation for an extended period in his mansions. To escape from the persecution they were suffering in the UK.
