I have finally watched all episodes. It was much better than I was expecting and bore no resemblance to what was talked about for hours and hours by some posters on here.
I am interested in discussing the programme with people who have watched it all. What struck me was:

  1. Harry clearly says Charles leaked the content of Harrys private letter to Charles, to the press.
  2. William when younger had agreed with Harry that neither of them would behave as Charles had with his press office. But William went back on that and behaved the same way.
  3. The Palace leaked the location of where Harry and Meghan were staying in Canada.
  4. The small number of social media accounts run by mainly white middle-aged women who push hate for both of them but especially Meghan.
  5. The myth that Meghan is controlling Harry is recognised by him as misogyny.

I think they were clearly right to leave.

Or maybe she wrote Ashley off because she had the same name as her former non- conquest ------Ashley Cole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And she wanted that story deflected during the wedding. PR works in mysterious ways. 😂

notanotheroneagain · 02/01/2023 11:38

Ashley was linked to the Markles.

We don't know how far the palace knew about their relationship. Most certainly the public did not know. Imagine that if MM was constantly keeping in touch with her, they would have hounded her as they did with Thomas So actually a good thing MM kept her distance.

Although I do get a sense that Ashley is saying her communication was being monitored/controlled. Maybe, they didn't have any dirt on Ashley so wanted to perpetuate the narrative that MM is distant from her family. Coercive Control 101 : distance person from supportive family members.

If she had been invited and not attended, do you think it wouldn't have been casually slipped into the overshare somewhere, like really prominently, being self-beneficial to Meghan?

😲 Noooo. You're talking like Meghan is into self-promotion or something. When we know she just wants to live a private life dedicated to the betterment of other (non-related) women.

Really? I think the vast majority of people think she does her job very well. She isn’t a trained public speaker. Neither was Diana, who had to be coached and still she sounded quite wooden . The job involves far more than public speaking. We rarely hear Camilla speak. If you think public speaking is all that the job involves, you aren’t looking very hard.

Kate did very well speaking at the Earthshot prize. I remember the first time she spoke publicly, she was very nervous. She has grown in confidence. However she doesn’t seem to be a person who craves the spotlight, so it’s not something she probably enjoys. At least when she speaks, it make sense and she doesn’t talk in word salads.

MarshaMelrose · 02/01/2023 12:16

Ashley was linked to the Markles.
Yes.
We don't know how far the palace knew about their relationship.
We know that, according to Meghan, they advised on her attendance so they knew who she was. Presumably as Meghan only wanted to invite three relatives, they'd know they were quite close.
Most certainly the public did not know.
True, we did not.
Imagine that if MM was constantly keeping in touch with her, they would have hounded her as they did with Thomas.
Well, no. Because like you said, we didn't know she existed. Phones aren't hacked anymore. So unless Ashley revealed their relationship, how would we have known they were keeping in touch?
So actually a good thing MM kept her distance.
Ashley doesn't agree with this. It made her sad to lose contact.
Although I do get a sense that Ashley is saying her communication was being monitored/controlled.
She actually said, "Communication with Meg became less and less frequent... my impression was that her relationships were being managed on some level." Meghan was speaking to her friends. She was having them round for tea. Eating out with them. Travelling to the US to see them. She had Oprah round to her very small cottage. No such invites for Ashleigh.
Maybe, they didn't have any dirt on Ashley so wanted to perpetuate the narrative that MM is distant from her family.
She IS distant. After she fell out with her dad, she was speaking to just two relatives. Then she ghosted Ashleigh. So she now just speaks to one member.
Coercive Control 101 : distance person from supportive family members.
Meghan did that all on her own. She was only speaking to three members of her family, one she publicly fell out with, and another she stopped calling.
Although, strangely, Harry, who was extremely close to his supportive family, is now distanced from them with Meghan as his only support. Hmm, Coercive Control 101, hey?

As for jealousy over KM? Are you for real?

Kate can't even do her job, she can't even talk publicly. Even Charlotte and Louis could probably do a better job than Kate.

This comment is hilariously childish.

Thanks for the laugh tho @notanotheroneagain , laughs are always welcome in dreary January!

LBFseBrom · 02/01/2023 14:15

I think the Princess of Wales speaks publicly quite well in a quiet, gentle manner. She has certainly grown in confidence since she first became engaged to William. It's unkind to sneer at her speech, she doesn't do badly at all and seems very genuine. Not everyone is a great orator and do we want that anyway? Kate strikes me as a compassionate person and she fits her role admirably.

MarshaMelrose · 02/01/2023 15:09

From Anderson Coopers interview...
there "has been absolutely no willingness to reconcile (from RF)."

"Every single time I’ve tried to do it privately, there have been briefings and leakings and planting of stories against me and my wife," he says in a preview for his interview with Anderson Cooper on “60 Minutes,” airing Sunday at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Didn't Harry talk to his father after the OW interview then leak the conversation to Gayle King?

MarshaMelrose · 02/01/2023 15:10

Oops, wrong thread. Sorry.

purpleme12 · 02/01/2023 19:45

I'm on episode 4 so far and it's very cheesy.

Also I don't get the comment when Oprah came round and said 'you'd never believe it'?

Edinburghmusing · 02/01/2023 19:58

@purpleme12 she means you’d never believe that they were living somewhere so small and non luxurious.

to be fair that kitchen does look quite Homebase circa 1982.

but that was one of the queens things I think wasn’t it - cornflakes in Tupperware. And obviously amazing and expensive housing - but I think us usually not luxuriously kitted out every couple of years.

i imagine that Meghan was genuinely horrified and Oprah genuinely taken aback

bakalava · 02/01/2023 20:29

I suppose that making it in California equates to buying the greatest square footage you can comfortably afford plus 30% more to keep you working hard and ambitious. It is typically insensitive of newly minted Californians to fail to understand the value of a Wren designed cottage in a prime London postcode. A smart cookie would and would also be able to explain it to those who had gaps in their knowledge base. I think the main offence is in why she felt it was necessary to share the story with the public. It gets filed in the ridiculous category of the crying pilot and the dancing South Africans.

ThighMistress · 02/01/2023 20:52

It sounds bad because it is entitled of Meghan and does not show Oprah in a good light (if she did indeed cast the aspersions they said she did).

Who on earth comments negatively when being shown around someone’s house? Even if you thought, “Gosh, they’re in this pokey dump” you would gush about how quaint and charming the place was.

If a “friend” made such comments about my house I’d be somewhat huffy (I can say my house is ugly but no one else can!) but I guess if it were my new bestie Oprah I’d suck it right up…..

purpleme12 · 02/01/2023 20:59

Unless Meghan made the comment first and then Oprah commented? No idea though of course!

purpleme12 · 02/01/2023 21:00

On episode 5 now.
When they say that Sandringham Palace organised a meeting about Meghan and Harry's future without inviting Meghan, why didn't Harry make sure she she came then even if they didn't invite her?

bakalava · 02/01/2023 21:02

Okay, so here's the question: How does Oprah feel about Meghan revealing her ignorant comment (made during their private conversation) to the whole wide world? (Especially in view of the types of role she has performed on US television for most of her career).

IIRC they didn't set the meeting until after Meghan had left the country.

purpleme12 · 02/01/2023 23:35

Yes it did say that but I just thought he still would have known in advance even if only a few days if it was the important there must have been a way for her to get there or be there on phone or something that he could make happen

They were living in an equivalent of a mews house in central London - but with the added banging of heads on ceilings.

People like yourselves have been going on about what a luxury life they were having living in castles.

I live in central London, and even I don't have such low ceilings. I'm a pleb.
MM lived in a luxury house in Toronto, nothing ignorant about what Oprah is saying.

William and Kate were a much taller couple who lived there for years. They never had any complaints about the ceiling height. It is much bigger than a London mews house.

Don't try to rewrite history.

The story that the phone call took place came from KP via Roya Nikkhak. That Sunday, Gayle saw the story and asked H if they had indeed reconciled as she has read on the Sunday Times, he said no that is not true.

The British press then pinned it like it came from H when the story came from W.

notanotheroneagain · 03/01/2023 14:09

Why did they move then if they were so satisfied with it?
They went ahead and spent million on a driveway and were renovating kitchens and tennis courts, with no problem at all.

In central London, we have people banging together 2/3 townhouses to make them one house. Some of the mews at the back are used as garages and 'maids quarters'. The mews houses tend to be 2/3 bedrooms, some even more. Expensive as they are, they are not the ultimate luxury befitting royalty, they are very much a working class thing (if you have a very good job, yes), but they are not like the houses at the front. No where near the luxury we were made to believe H&M live in.

So yeah, that house is as basic and small as they come. Nothing like what you find in Kensington/Knightsbridge/ Chelsea etc.

BethJ62 · 03/01/2023 14:20

Thankfully @notanotheroneagain H and M didn’t have to tolerate the terrible conditions of a Christopher Wren designed , fully protected home in the heart of London for very long as they were able to move to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor estate . Not quite what they wanted / thought they deserved but still rather nice .

They moved because it was too small to raise a second child inside a two bedder.
Those areas you listed all have mews houses. I wouldn't want to live in a mews myself (I have been inside one or two) but NottCott is definitely a proper house (much like FrogCott) with some sloping to some of the ceilings. You would only regularly bang your head on the ceiling if you lack spatial awareness. I have seen no evidence that either of them do (especially Harry as he plays competitive polo)

notanotheroneagain · 03/01/2023 15:54

No you would not, it has slanted ceilings. H is over 6ft tall.

Yet, you do accept that it was too small for a small family of 2adults and 2dc. There is a lot of people who live in mews houses with the same number or more children than that.
