You've never heard of Katie Perry and Andrea Bocelli? 😂

I have never heard of Andrea Bocelli.
The name is Katy Perry. She was big about 6-8 years ago, but not now. She lost a lot of fans as she was perceived as using politics to boost her career inauthentically. For example boosting same sex marriage as a good thing, then featuring a homophobic rap band on a song. I am sure this will be seen by ex fans as another attempt to boost her popularity which has definitely fallen.

I thought there was an official investigation happening?

The Charity Commission closed the investigation but went on to comment that how the funds were eventually used was now beyond their scrutiny

The charity commission checked the transfer and everything was lawful. It wasn’t transferred to travalyst directly but to their former foundation

It went from MWX to Travalyst which placed it beyond the scrutiny of the Charity Commission.

Travalyst is exempt from publishing full accounts (handy) but even the limited ones available show a similar amount to the transfer under creditors falling due within a year in 2020./2021.

No indication as to how a travel company accrued creditors during a global lockdown but hey-ho.

Okay googled - a classical singer.
I thought the conversation was about pop stars.
I know the concert has some good classical music singers, but they have scraped the barrel with pop singers.

I know there is a lot of snobbery around not knowing who different classical music singers are, but I spent a lot of my childhood being taken to classical music concerts and opera and still am not a fan. I pretty much ignore the whole genre.

AskMeMore · 15/04/2023 12:17

@CathyorClaire thanks for that. They are all on the take.

Ive run companies in UK, similar transparency with not needing to publish full accounts and it isn’t done to be secretive. Small companies are just treated differently. Everything important is still retained. Travalyst is still a NFP. He’s not in it to steal the money.

Soothsayer1 · 15/04/2023 12:26

I hope the coronation isn't going the way of Trump rallies
Charles is already 3/4 of the way there, a weird old man rambling on and on making strange hand movements, imagining that everyone adores him and getting thin skinned and tetchy at any signs that they don't

CathyorClaire · 15/04/2023 12:38

it isn’t done to be secretive.

And yet It would be a simple matter to share how the funds have been spent even if informally.

Whaeanui · 15/04/2023 12:42

Have you checked the accounts yourself? And that of the royal foundation? Just because other posters have been mentioning it so I thought I would check both myself.

I wonder if those posters that have a strange fascination with the fact archewell has retained funds of £9-10 million have actually looked at the royal foundation accounts? You really should. It would probably stop that constant accusation regarding archewell if you did.

Queen Mary was notorious for nicking stuff my mum had remembered the scandals as a child, so it was common knowledge amongst the hoi polloi in the days before social media and rabid tabloids. Chuck in what now appears to be the late Queen's penchant for brazenly 'suggesting' gifts like the German racehorse and now the stamps and the like it is becoming apparent the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

Tory boy Andrew Castle on LBC now expressing boredom about the Coronation and calling it faintly ridiculous. This is how the world ends not with a bang but a whimper.

Going out with a whimper- does seem so with the poll about the Coronation. Again - interesting to see age differences

Can you explain what the issue is with the RF accounts?

Always up for a bit of gossip about alleged royal chicanery...

AskMeMore · 15/04/2023 13:06

@CathyorClaire what do you think of the royal family stealing state gifts?

Whaeanui · 15/04/2023 13:08

@CathyorClaire prob best to keep it here https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/the_royal_family/4779046-archewell-only-had-two-donors but they retain a greater level of funds than archewell, it isn’t even a thing because all foundations do as it would be irresponsible not to, you don’t spend every penny or cent every year.

That's a shocker with only 9% caring a 'great deal' about the Coronation and even when you go to 65+ is still only 14%. That's the seed corn of a populace being groomed to accept the legitimacy of a monarchical dynasty. It just isn't happening. Which isn't surprising when most folks are worried about NHS, affordable housing, employment, education, the cost of living crisis rather than an ageing, fairly intemperate old bloke getting a funny hat in a £100 million pound jamboree. I'm not seeing any local flags, displays, announcements of local street parties and all the stuff we had on previous Jubilees and the like either, and it's 3 weeks to go. Katy Perry and Andrea Bocelli are a coup though and thankfully no Rod Stewart or Cliff Richard, so there is that.

MarshaBradyo · 15/04/2023 13:38

It’s a bit loaded as a question

I answered it and caring a great deal is overstating how I feel so chose a lower down one. It doesn’t mean I want the monarchy to end though

I think posters who talk about the topic on these threads care more than I do. But in a kind of ‘hate watch’ way

Howsimplywonderful · 15/04/2023 13:38

Andrea Bocelli is an amazing singer , and Katy Perry did a half time Super Bowl show so she’s a big name (She lives in Montecito)

Andrea Bocelli did an absolutely lovely thing for a neighbour, so I’ve always had a soft spot for him

I remember doing something lovely with my daughter when she was very young and firework by Katy Perry (was playing) - for years it would make me cry a few happy tears whenever I heard it.

AskMeMore · 15/04/2023 13:39

Katy Perry used to be a big deal, she is not now.

AskMeMore · 15/04/2023 13:39

It was in 2015 Katy Perry did the superbowl thing.
This will be a move to try and revive her very flagging career.

AskMeMore · 15/04/2023 13:41

I have zero issue with any foundation retaining money. This is good financial practice.

Roussette · 15/04/2023 13:44

No. I care about a bloated taxpayer funded Institution spaffing £150m on this Coronation . And I care about the links I provided on another thread of very dodgy dealings by them that Royalists won't read

MarshaBradyo · 15/04/2023 13:46

Are posters going to watch to check there aren’t any crowds?

Or give Royals a miss for the day

I live on London borders, so it's a short ride in - my partner and I will be going for a gawp if the weather's good. We did 3 trips in for the Queen's death - saw the Queue, Charles' and Camilla entering BP for the first time and The Flowers. It was quite a media circus and something to behold. My nephew who is doing a journalism degree is down as well to make a story about it.

PilshardPillToSwallow · 15/04/2023 14:47

@vera99.
I'm not anti monarchy, I would certainly lol to see a very different kind of monarchy and hugely scaled down however.

We watched the queen's funeral etc and the weddings but... My dc just arnt interested in them at all.

Ie it's not like they have been indoctrinated by me to love or hate them, but dc barley remember who William and Kate are ( they do know Harry and Megan after all the fuss. Yes even 9 year olds get worked up at school over it).

I can't seem them surviving to William.
This whole treatment of Harry has totally put me off him and I think kate has don't extremely well with the hand she's been given. She's not an entertainer, she's not a public speaker and she really tries her best and looks magnificent etc but I just don't warm to either of them. And I'm of their generation, I don't find them in any way relatable or watchable and William irritates me with his constant grimace.

I actually much prefer Harry and Megan now which has been a huge 360 for me over the years.
Megan is just a natural at speaking, performing and she was doing charity work before she became royal. She's lived a pretty normal and at times very gritty life.

PilshardPillToSwallow · 15/04/2023 14:56

I don't mind the military marching bands but imagine if most where swopped with proper orchestra....
