Archewell only had two donors

Interesting to see that Archewell donations were 99% made up of donations from just TWO one-off donors, one of £10M and one of £3M.
Speculation that this was £10M from Oprah for the interview and £3M from Tyler.

This doesn't look very sustainable to me.

And...?

MarshaMelrose · 05/04/2023 22:31

We're those donations not from his book and Netflix?
I think it's interesting that they got so much money from working just one hour a week. No wonder they didnt want to open church halls in the UK.

notanotheroneagain · 05/04/2023 22:45

An hour a week, according to lying Camilla Tominey.

Who seems to have forgotten that H&M are raising funds playing polo for charities like Sentebale, arranging Invictus, helping with other charities like Worldwide Kitchen and around 40 other charities above Netflix, podcasts, books and Better Up.

Yeah right, 1hr a week.

Cokefans · 05/04/2023 22:52

The hour per week came from their own records didn’t it ?

‘Raising funds’. Lol.

They raised less than 5 grand in the whole year according to their tax return.

10 mil from private donor 1
3 mil from private donor 2
and finally just under 4.5k from public donations

Cokefans · 05/04/2023 22:53

@Blip I know what you mean - will those same donors cough up again? And if not, who will?

Cokefans · 05/04/2023 22:55

So they take other people’s money and give a small percentage away - the rest used as expenses and salaries? Is that right?

Blip · 05/04/2023 22:55

Yes

And 100 million for their own fund from the book for example.
I see- not really a life of public service in my opinion.

They declared one hour a week in their filing. Nothing to do with Tominey. Maybe that's some sort of charity standard answer? But that's what they've declared.

WhydidntIknow · 05/04/2023 22:58

Many charaties do not even make a quarter of what Archewell made in a year in donations.

BillLius · 05/04/2023 23:01

Nice to see the Sussexes on here again👋

ThereIbledit · 05/04/2023 23:02

They only set it up a year or so ago didn't they?

I think I read somewhere that they started the fund off. I presume that the idea is that the founder's money is invested and donations are made out of the income the investments make, leaving the investments to make more income for more donations in the future. Under this model I wouldn't expect many donations to be made in the first few years. This is how a surprising number of charities in the UK fund their activities.

MarshaMelrose · 05/04/2023 23:05

I'm going to have to say that start ups of charities like this do take time to settle down and the first year often has heavy start up costs regarding legal fees, equipment, etc. Which will then lessen. I'm pretty sure H&M fans, were not as generous to W&C's charity as I'm being to Archewell but I think we should be fair about these things.
Archewell also lost 16 members of staff up til the end of 2021.

Cokefans · 05/04/2023 23:47

It was established in October 2020

Unless you are saying their own tax returns are lying, it was 1 hour a week for their charity/foundation. They weren't paid for it unlike the actual boss (there are only 3 listed employees each working 1 hour a week), and the boss was paid a 3 figure salary...for 1 hr per week.

Shady as fuck.

The 'donations' were from 2 people. 30 million is still sitting in their bank account earning interest. It is also a well know tax fiddle to make a large charitable donation, take the tax rebate and leave the money there in the bank and never distribute it. 3 million was actually distributed. 33 mil in total.

purpledalmation · 06/04/2023 01:32

Also talking of charities or foundations, so lovely to see Jacinda Arden has joined with William and Catherine in their Earthshot charity. A lady with a very clear moral compass who saw straight through a couple of grifters and has nothing more to do with Harry and Meghan and their shady goings on 😂😂

Oftenaddled · 06/04/2023 02:58

I don't know much about the finances, but 1 hour a week is a normal declaration for anyone sitting on a foundation's board. They are more in the position of owners than managers, if you compare with a business.

I don't know that they're under any obligation to solicit general donations. I can't imagine why they would spend most income rather than build and invest at this point. I suspect the press has capitalised on the fact that British readers aren't familiar with US charitable foundations to make this sound murkier than it is. I'm not particularly a fan of this couple or any royals. Still, I would read up on US foundations generally before going along with UK media on this issue.

It's interesting that when Kate and William visit charities and are involved in Earth Shot and Shaping Us etc, they have huge numbers of staff who do all the preparation and leg work and Kate and William just turn up for an hour on the day, shake hands, have a half hour chat about the project (having read the notes in the car on the way down), but Harry and Meghan are doing everything themselves..........

'arranging Invictus' - makes you wonder what the other staff and trustees do if Harry's arranging it all.

'Helping other charities ' - how on earth did the other charities survive before Harry and Meghan came along to do all the work?
🙄😂

notanotheroneagain · 06/04/2023 07:02

Camilla Tominey's article called H&M leaders of the workshy, and pretended all their work compromises of them sitting at a board meeting once a week.

But we have seen them giving talks (not from notes and prompters). Giving interviews (H for spare and mh). We saw them work. CT is banking on the UK public not to have any knowledge of the workshops that they did because the bm never covers it.

And this is the 'journalism' we have.

TodayInahurry · 06/04/2023 07:26

Neither of these two have any business experience or much intelligence, their income comes from whining about Harry’s family. That large house, servants, private jets and her expensive clothes don’t come cheap you know?

Coxspurplepippin · 06/04/2023 07:33

Do you think they stood in front of a lecturn and gave their speeches 'ad hoc'? No rehearsal, no speech writer? Just stood up there, having not been given any research notes, had no staff do any digging into the subject, or spoken to people involved? Right.......

'we saw them work'. Did we? And what sort of 'work' was that?

DewinDwl · 06/04/2023 07:40

Yes such an important point, valid for this issue and much widely. The press we have spreads hatred, ignorance, and division - they live on malicious gossip and poisonous near-slander while serious issues go unreported and crappy politicians are unchallenged.

The impact of poor journalism on UK society has been incredibly negative in the last decade or so. I am not so bothered about H&M but I am glad he is taking the press to task. That's something good coming out of all this.

@MarshaMelrose You are doing the Daily Mail thing of counting all the people who have worked for Harry and Meghan since 2018, including when they were part of the Royal Foundation with W and K, but you are going even further than the Daily Mail and attributing them all to Archewell.

Archewell has had only two people leave, one head of audio who left after Spotify podcast series wrapped, and their friend Mandana, who was in effect, a maternity cover and was replaced as CEO by H and M.

Harry and Meghan's 'revolving door' of staff

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's head of audio at Archewell, hired to produce the duchess's Spotify podcast Archetypes, has quit after just 18 months, reports said last night.
