How do you feel about this?

It's all a hideous anachronism.... a stinking carbuncle on the face of society

There was someone on the Today Show this morning who said that the UK is the worst off country in Western Europe. It was such a stark statement. The reason given is little to no investment in research and developement.

But a party for this guy costing 100 million?

Add to that the cost of the Jubilee and the funeral?

And for all the BUT TOURISIM crew - there is no way we got a return on that in pounds and pence from an uptick in tourisim.

Our priorities are incredibly skewed.

No wonder we are the worst off in Western Europe.

Well said. It's obscene.

All this 'less showy Coronation' was just bollocks. We just spaff money up the wall on this sort of thing. It is a minimum of £100million. I wonder if that does not take into account security which will be eyewatering amount. That always gets forgotten.

Novella4 · 14/04/2023 09:00

People are waking up to the feudal anachronism that the uk population has been expected to tolerate up to now

People are also waking up to the MSM propaganda re the royals .
I don't believe polls - they are another propaganda tool - but the many people see a survey result and don't look further ( it was eg 1700 people so meaningless , the respondents were carefully selected etc)

The UK is almost a failing state and £100 000 000 to be wasted on a pointless PR stunt ? It's sole purpose being to reinforce the idea that this ordinary man deserves to raid the coffers as and when he feels like it

And as for the ( tiny , admittedly) ' I want to see shiny things to cheer myself up'

  • get a life - preferably one based on real values and not empty gestures
Novella4 · 14/04/2023 09:06

I meant to add - even the polls say the vast majority want Charles to pay or at the very least make a large contribution.
Any response to those polls ??
Of course not

Novella4 · 14/04/2023 09:12

I predict Charles will announce some contribution with a lot of fanfare and no transparency or detail

How could he not with the UK in the state it is
Hopefully from that will flow more calls for accountability.
Republicans have been shouting themselves hoarse re the murky financial arrangements and vast wealth of the Windsors for years and people are listening now

purpledalmation · 14/04/2023 10:28

The royal family are not the cause of the country's cost of living crisis. It's down to world circumstances and government actions.

Lindy2 · 14/04/2023 10:34

There's a lot of money in people travelling to and staying in London for the Coronation. Most people expect a certain amount of pomp and ceremony for a Coronation. It's not like one happens very often.

I say go for it. I'll be watching and expecting quite a nice event and ceremony.

No one suggested they were. But maybe they need to take note of what the country is going through and cut their cloth accordingly. Appalling optics

This.

I've seen the polls. No comment from royalists of course

AskMeMore · 14/04/2023 11:38

@Lindy2 There is zero reason for other events like a concert. They could have had the Coronation ceremony and that is it. If Charles wanted a reception afterwards he could have hosted it himself at Buckingham Palace. But the concert and sending his portrait to schools and institutions is simply vanity projects funded by the taxpayer.

AskMeMore · 14/04/2023 11:39

@Novella4 Probably. He will announce a substantial donation, but with zero details.
Anyone remember when the Royals said they had made a substantial donation to a charity and it turned out to be £25?

Soothsayer1 · 14/04/2023 11:46

I want to see shiny things to cheer myself up
And how much of a brainwashed cap doffing peasant are you if you're cheered up by seeing enormous wealth horded by a tiny minority of people😕

As if the royal family haven't got their fat fingers in the government pie... Whispering in the government's ear to get the rules changed to make them richer but keep it out of the sight of the peasants in case they get restless and start sharpening the pitchforks

AskMeMore · 14/04/2023 11:57

The Guardian today published an article about how gifts of jewels to the state have been taken by the Royal Family as their private jewellery. This is illegal. It is theft.

@Soothsayer1 Yes and I wouold 100% recommend the Cost of the Crown articles in the Guardian. I have linked some of them on a thread previously, there was little interest.

At last, someone is actually looking into all of this.

Here are some of the articles, just google the headlines and you will find them.

"Cost of the crown: what we know so far about British royals’ wealth and finances" (read it and weep)

"Official jewellery gifts to royals worth £80m are not in national collection" (this article is gobsmacking)

"Royals cashing in on gifts – surely that’s unseemly for a modern monarchy?" (gifts worth millions that should be declared are diverted into their private collections. Corruption?)

A spotlight on their wealth and what they cost us (obscure) cannot come soon enough.

Snap! Just typing out my post, as you posted!

Well done Guardian for highlighting some of these, quite frankly, dishonest practices.

AskMeMore · 14/04/2023 12:14

@Roussette The articles have been gobsmacking. Official gifts of valuable stamps to the state absorbed into the Royal Families private stamp collection. They are thieves and should be in jail.

As if they haven't got enough wealth? They are worth so so much, subsidized by us to the tune of £86m, yet still greed takes over. They don't care a damn about the people.
It's all preserve the wealth, keep the gravy train of monarchy running at whatever cost...

I am appalled daily by them. I would just like to think that maybe one of the younger royals develops a social conscience one day

The royal family are not the cause of the country's cost of living crisis. It's down to world circumstances and government actions.

This is assinine - if you loose your job you do not continue to spend in the same way as when you had a job.

So even if the Royal Family do not cause the country's cost of living crisis they are CERTAINLY adding to it!

In these last few years the obscene, obnoxious spending on funerals, Jubilee and a Coronation is so GREEDY, so tone deaf, so bloody entitled it beggars belief.

We don't even know how much the funerals cost for Phillip, the Queen. Ditto the Jubilee. Now this. I bet the entire nation woud colectively faint if we knew.

And why don't we know?

We really need a shake.

Villifying every sector in the UK who actually contribute to a better society for asking for a basic standard of living while accepting on the other hand that this crew take, take, take because Tradition and Tourisim?

We deserve the standard to which we have dropped at the moment, we really do.

AskMeMore · 14/04/2023 12:41

Charles is a spender. It will only get worse. He will cut the money to other royal family members and spend more on himself and Camilla. And he will continue to steal from the taxpayers by stealing gifts to the state.

Roussette · 14/04/2023 12:42

I am sick to death of the tourism excuse. If they didn't exist we would still have the same number of tourists coming to see the changing the guard, Buckingham palace, the crown jewels etc

It's just a feeble excuse and always has been and it is discounted in many places. I can't be bothered to do links because Royalists just ignore it
