She and her husband are awful people

Lmao. If that's your definition of awful...

I cannot believe the damage MM has caused and is trying to cause.

She is poison.

And the media are not the poison drug dealer?

Why are you letting the media off the hook?

knittingaddict · 16/12/2022 09:16

Nice op. 😀

The MM threads make me what to declare the same thing, even though I don't know the woman from Adam and don't follow celebrity news at all.

garlicandsapphires · 16/12/2022 09:18

Having said that I warmed to them both, and better understand their point of view, I do wonder if they are also being a bit thinned skinned.
The footage of putting up fencing to protect them from paparazzi on boats was shocking - but is this part and parcel of being a celebrity? I have no idea what it's like to be a celebrity so can't tell.
They are very polarising and get a lot of criticism but they have swathes of fans as well - should they be a bit more accepting of the fact that not everyone will like them? They are pretty fascinating I have to say!

TheaBrandt · 16/12/2022 09:22

The Mail have the knives out as they sued them.

Can't stand her.

You've clearly been brainwashed by the tabloids! She's done absolutely nothing wrong!!! Nothing. All the nonsense in the media was false. People like you have just lapped it up because you think it's 'trendy' to hate Meghan Markle

MadameMackenzie · 16/12/2022 09:25

FrownedUpon · 15/12/2022 23:04

YABU. She’s awful.

She's done absolutely nothing wrong. You've believed all the lies MSM have fed you. Very sad

Bumpitybumper · 16/12/2022 07:02

The documentary has only reinforced my thoughts about Meghan. Whilst in theory I like a lot of what she stands for, this is something instinctively 'off' and disingenuous about how she comes across at times that I find unsettling.

It was interesting that when she spoke about some of her childhood experiences and her passion for activism, she seemed a lot more authentic and real. It's very hard to put my finger on exactly why, but when she talks about how she fell in love with Harry and they acted liked kids together or how she had no interest or knowledge of the RF before joining it, she just doesn't talk about these things in the same way. It comes across as a bit too try hard and as though she's acting and desperate for people to buy into what she's saying.

It's all a bit inconsistent and I think a lot of people have an instinctive feel for when others are being inauthentic. I think this combined with her making some pretty strong claims against the RF and being the apparent catalyst for Harry to break ties with his family is a combination that will make people a bit wary of her. If it appears to some that she isn't being genuine about some aspects of her life then it will discredit some of the other things she is saying and make people question her real motives.

I also think their desperation to blame the British media and racism isn't really tackling the underlying issue of how she comes across at times and why it isn't connecting with some people as it should. The Oprah interview and this Netflix series were arguably edited in their favour and people got the opportunity to hear her side of things and yet still in my view, she comes across as inauthentic for large parts of these shows.

Perfectly put

I want to know about the demonised and what those demonising them are trying to hide. I don’t think it should ever be so easy to demonise other people. If you see what I mean?

I also think being thin skinned is part of what makes them more open than other members of the royal family who are more thick skinned and closed off. Being thick skinned comes with its own problems too.

UseAMuckySock · 15/12/2022 23:03

I don’t like or dislike her. I do however believe her.

Same. I'm a bit ashamed of how the British have treated her tbh.

StoneofDestiny · 16/12/2022 09:29

We need to get rid of the Royal Family and let them get proper jobs to support themselves without the taxpayer shelling out.

That said, I struggle to understand the vitriol that has been, and is, directed at Meghan, a woman who earned her own money and made her own way in life before she ever met Harry. Doesn't say much for Harry's ability despite his privileged upbringing and education, if he can be led 'astray' so easily by his wife. Doesn't say much for the Royal institution if they could not allow an articulate woman in 2022 to be herself and not morph into a vacuous, inarticulate, pointless clothes horse like Kate. Yet another woman whose sole purpose is to 'support her husband', despite said husbands being surrounded by hordes of advisors, secretaries, servants, press officers, courtiers and household staff.
The press are on the side of the Royal Family - not sure how Meghan and Harry could ever have their point of view heard if they didn't make their Netflix programmes. Why should they stay silent?

HelsyQ · 16/12/2022 09:30

AnnieSnap · 15/12/2022 23:05

Without reverting to Daily Mail headlines, in what way is she awful?

No one that dislikes her can actually give a genuine, truthful answer!!!

It’s because UK is institutionally racist.

ladygindiva · 16/12/2022 09:31

Huge lolz at the problem being " how she comes across" ( whatever that means) and not institutional embedded national racism.

StoneofDestiny · 16/12/2022 09:32

Anybody with a brain can see there is a massive race issue involved.

Pugdogmom · 16/12/2022 09:39

The whole thing is a shame. As a royal couple they could have widened the appeal of the royal family and raised awareness of issues that meant a lot to them. Watching the documentary they clearly had the potential to be really positive role models. Instead they’re making tacky Netflix shows and whining about the past. I feel sorry for her that she went into this thing so ill prepared, it must have been unbelievably daunting having to learn on your feet like that. I would be so afraid of making a mistake and it all being so public. That said, when I’m watching the documentary I never quite feel like I’m getting a real sense of her, it always feels artificial and contrived. It’s interesting to see how others respond differently and easily warm to her. I wish them both well but hope now they’ve had their say, they can now put themselves to better use.

Absolutely this, with bells on

Alltheprettyseahorses · 16/12/2022 09:44

You can like whoever you want, it's perfectly reasonable.

I have a lot of contempt for her and I'll say why. The royal family is an outdated concept that should be abolished. It is nothing bur completely unearned and totally undeserved privilege. To a point, I can't blame those born into it as they didn't have choice: Meghan Markle actively chose to marry into it and therefore perpetuate the institution. However, she has now left it and taken her husband with her which mitigates her actions somewhat. Obviously I have a lot more contempt for Kate Middleton who not only clings to the role but has jealously weaponised it against anyone who may threaten her precarious supremacy as PP described and Meghan Markle - prettier, more intelligent, successful - bore the brunt of that.

IcyBlonde15 · 16/12/2022 09:49

I don’t dislike her and do think how awful if the claims about the RF leaking stories are true, but do think they are both hypocritical keeping their titles if they do not wish to be part of the institution and believe the institution did that to them.

Mischance · 16/12/2022 09:51

The venom that is heaped on this woman because of what the gutter press say is very concerning. Firstly because some sections of the public are prepared to condemn a woman who has committed no crime, and who they do not know - that is chilling,; and secondly because it is a stark demonstration of the power of the press to influence opinion and to decide what people should think - this has huge political implications.

There needs to be education in schools about how the media manipulate people's thoughts and opinions and the need to seek facts.

It cannot be right that the media fly drones and helicopters over someone's home to catch a glimpse of them in the garden and film them - on what planet is that in the public interest?

Press freedom is precious - but with that freedom comes responsibility.

Nooky · 16/12/2022 09:55

I think @Bumpitybumper has summed it up perfectly

Sherrystrull · 16/12/2022 09:56

Surely their Netflix series is also media? I don't really understand why that should be taken as truth but not what's in the papers. It's all twisted and opinion rather than fact.

Sparklingbrook · 16/12/2022 09:59

YABU

a) For starting this thread
b) For not returning to it

fatnotfluffy · 16/12/2022 10:01

From the little knowledge I have about Meghan, I like her too. It's amazing how many people seem to know her so intimately that they can categorically state what a bad person she is, when in reality they have just been reading the Daily Heil too much. I think she's beautiful, and she seems to make Harry happy, but is it any of our business anyway?

StoneofDestiny · 16/12/2022 10:01

Yes, but they are as entitled to give their version of the truth as the palace are, and why not get paid for it? The Royals get paid by taxpayers for just existing!

MoChridhe · 16/12/2022 10:02

They have received death threats. anybody could have been cutting through the fence. Would that not terrify you ? Also the entitlement of the paps to break into a celebrity's property, how is that lawful. No they are not thin skinned in this instance.

crossstitchingnana · 16/12/2022 10:03

Inspecto
All we hear is H and M's opinion with the RF not able to reply. Why inflict such public damage to someone's family, oh yes for a bucket full of cash. It's hideous.

If they want to leave the limelight then go and shut up.
