Calling Harry 'H'

Am I the only one who finds it very odd to hear Harry being called 'H' or is it an American/British thing?

I'm not from either countries so have no idea but every time I hear it from Meghan it just feels like scratching chalkboard.

My grandad called my grandma "H".

Wonder if it comes from the time when they were secretly texting when they first started dating? Could just be irritating over shortening though.

DH and his colleagues often call each other by initials. I think it comes from signing emails by initials ( for them )

She calls him Aitch, not Haitch.
I like her for that (not for anything else though).

My grandad was a harry and he was known as ‘H’ . We’re British. Just a nickname like any other 🤷🏻‍♀️

Same initials! We use them in text but don't say them when speaking

It's fascinating how people allowed the media to manipulate them into hating everything little thing about them. A woman can't even call her husband what she wants without a thread being started about it. You're OBSESSED. What a sad little island.

I call my colleagues by their initials but only because in our system that was how you would send private messages. So it felt like that was their name.

Good things there's nothing important going on in the country...

More seriously I know loads of people that do it, especially in email/texts, and it annoys me a lot. But no, it's not just a Meghan thing.

I know other people do it, but I always associate it with Serena and Blair from gossip girl calling each other S and B, as that's the first time I heard it. I think it's a bit strange but then plenty of nicknames are.

I've just apologised to my husband because I call him by his letter 'B' most of the time - I had no idea I was dehumanising him he has never complained.

Now I know I've "Meghan'd" him I will never degrade him in that way again. How thoughtless of me

I think my post was perfectly clear that this is how I feel. Others are of course allowed to feel differently - it doesn’t make my feelings less valid, as Meghan herself might say …

I use initials in messages all the time, including H.

I don't call her H, but I can't imagine she'd mind much if I did and it was an established nickname.

This is a non-issue in my book.

Same with my nephew, I like it, don't know why it seems more common with H names, just become a thing I suppose.

It only works with certain letters. You never hear anyone called C, or F for example.
