Calling Harry 'H'

HarryMeg · 15/12/2022 19:06

Am I the only one who finds it very odd to hear Harry being called 'H' or is it an American/British thing?

I'm not from either countries so have no idea but every time I hear it from Meghan it just feels like scratching chalkboard.

OP posts:
Nodney · 15/12/2022 19:28

My grandad called my grandma "H".

Boohisspiss · 15/12/2022 19:29

Wonder if it comes from the time when they were secretly texting when they first started dating? Could just be irritating over shortening though.

pizzaHeart · 15/12/2022 19:29

DH and his colleagues often call each other by initials. I think it comes from signing emails by initials ( for them )

Jacopo · 15/12/2022 19:29

She calls him Aitch, not Haitch.
I like her for that (not for anything else though).

amidsummernightsdream · 15/12/2022 19:32

My grandad was a harry and he was known as ‘H’ . We’re British. Just a nickname like any other 🤷🏻‍♀️

ThorsBedazzler · 15/12/2022 19:32

H?

Call Ted and the rest of the Line of Duty gang, we've found H!

Shitzngiggles · 15/12/2022 19:33

Ffs the depths some of you will sink to just to find an excuse to slag this woman off is unbelievable. Its bloody relentless.

superdupernova · 15/12/2022 19:34

Wagsandclaws · 15/12/2022 19:15

Me and my DH would struggle
With that without laughing.

We are S and M ( or M and S ) Xmas Grin

Same initials! We use them in text but don't say them when speaking

GreenLunchBox · 15/12/2022 19:36

It's fascinating how people allowed the media to manipulate them into hating everything little thing about them. A woman can't even call her husband what she wants without a thread being started about it. You're OBSESSED. What a sad little island.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 15/12/2022 19:37

I call my colleagues by their initials but only because in our system that was how you would send private messages. So it felt like that was their name.

GreenLunchBox · 15/12/2022 19:37

Good things there's nothing important going on in the country...

Hidingawaytoday · 15/12/2022 19:40

ThorsBedazzler · 15/12/2022 19:32

H?

Call Ted and the rest of the Line of Duty gang, we've found H!

Came into the thread just to say the same dammit 😆

More seriously I know loads of people that do it, especially in email/texts, and it annoys me a lot. But no, it's not just a Meghan thing.

pavillion1 · 15/12/2022 19:43

its her way of giving the finger .

pinneddownbytabbies · 15/12/2022 19:44

Reallybadidea · 15/12/2022 19:23

I haven't seen it. Is it Aitch or Haitch? My feelings on it are dependent upon the pronunciation.

Haitch?

<shudders>

WeWereInParis · 15/12/2022 19:46

I know other people do it, but I always associate it with Serena and Blair from gossip girl calling each other S and B, as that's the first time I heard it. I think it's a bit strange but then plenty of nicknames are.

DarkKarmaIlama · 15/12/2022 19:48

Every time she says it I have to repeat it with a raised brow “H”?

JenniferBarkley · 15/12/2022 19:50

Wow. A Meghan thread crossed with a Haitch thread. That must form a Mumsnet singularity..

socksandvests · 15/12/2022 19:55

I've just apologised to my husband because I call him by his letter 'B' most of the time - I had no idea I was dehumanising him Blush he has never complained.

Now I know I've "Meghan'd" him I will never degrade him in that way again. How thoughtless of me Grin

IGoWalkingAfterMidnight · 15/12/2022 19:56

HelenHywater · 15/12/2022 19:17

Oh don't be so ridiculous.

A few people call me by the first letter of my name.
They are the people who are closest to me.

I call 2 of my friends by the first letter of their names.
It's not dehumanising.
We really care for each other.

I think my post was perfectly clear that this is how I feel. Others are of course allowed to feel differently - it doesn’t make my feelings less valid, as Meghan herself might say …

petermaddog · 15/12/2022 20:00

gotta bitch...his name is actually henry soooo

fartichoke · 15/12/2022 20:05

so cringe

AnyRandomName · 15/12/2022 20:05

I use initials in messages all the time, including H.

I don't call her H, but I can't imagine she'd mind much if I did and it was an established nickname.

This is a non-issue in my book.

Readaboutyourself · 15/12/2022 20:07

I’ve always called my pets by their initials

FurElsie · 15/12/2022 20:07

Ladyofthelake53 · 15/12/2022 19:10

I have a Harrison and everyone calls him H

Same with my nephew, I like it, don't know why it seems more common with H names, just become a thing I suppose.

FancyFanny · 15/12/2022 20:07

It only works with certain letters. You never hear anyone called C, or F for example.
