Harry and Meghan's Netflix series a huge success

This series is one of the biggest Netflix shows in the US and the UK. It had 2.4 million views in the UK in the first 24 hours.
Whether you liked the show or not, it is clear that Netflix were right to back this and will make a tidy profit from it. And it helps to boost the bankability of Harry and Meghan.

Why do people keep starting these threads. Definitely PR for H&M. It’s pathetic.

antelopevalley · 12/12/2022 18:58

Everything is on Twitter first. Stories that are rubbished here and then turn out to be true.

2.4 million isn't that high. And the third episode was watched by only 800,000. Less than 1 million Americans watched it on the first day which is a massive flop.

as i said, I’m not a monarchist AT ALL, quite the opposite, but these two are yet to show any talent for diplomacy or politics.

They’ve already been called out for being patronising by the UK ambassador from Gabon based on the first three episodes released , so yeah, doing really well on the diplomacy front.

I’m not sure US politicians get elected on being diplomatic. I think there are some no-nos like you must honour the military and cannot criticise wars that US has participated in. But everything else is up for discussion and polarised views are ok

defi · 12/12/2022 18:59

People will really try to down play the show's success

MaulPerton · 12/12/2022 19:00

It's a success for Netflix just in terms of the coverage it's getting if nothing else

Hard numbers are all that matter - hasn't viewership halved with each installment to a paltry 700k or so on the last one?

Spotify and NF are the only ones who took the bait, and are now paying the price - markled by association.

Aspiringmatriarch · 12/12/2022 19:00

blacksax · 12/12/2022 18:01

His extramarital fun has been reported ALL over the world but blocked in the U.K. I wonder how that happened?

Because the whole thing is a complete fabrication and utter bollocks and no media mogul in the UK would dare touch it with a bargepole because it would cost them billions in libel damages.

Couldn't they sue the media in other countries as well though, if they're printing libellous claims?

Try and play it up!! I’ll be watching and rewatching if he names names, but at the moment it’s a bit of fluff for the most part.

I don’t think everything on Twitter proves to be true, crikey! Twitter had a load of untrue shite about H&M for starters, come on

I agree. I didn't learn much I didn't already know, but a lot of people don't think about those historical links.

Part 1 is the weakest I think but it's all incredibly inoffensive so far. I suspect anyone looking for name and shame regarding the RF will be disappointed.

I truly never thought about the historical aspects or links to slavery,.

If I gave it a thought, it was what is Kate wearing of something equally silly and innocuous.

Harry's taking no prisoners. He gave them a chance to be nice but they continued to misrepresent him. He said Ok.. watch this space…

HotChoxs · 12/12/2022 19:07

Who cares really. I'm sure they can get a nice spin off. At home with H&M, a very interesting glance into the lifestyle of the once oppressed or whatever, I'm sure they can drag it out ad infinitum.

jeffgoldblum · 12/12/2022 19:08

@Pinkrosesbloom , I'm not the expert and I'm sure a more knowledgeable poster will come along to explain, on a previous thread politics was discussed and I'm sure it was said Harry couldn't run or get citizenship without renouncing his titles? , I think Meghan is excempt as she only married titles and is American.
However it was explained quite thoroughly by a very knowledgeable poster who I can't remember the name of ?
It was very interesting.

Yeah but I’m watching the space and he’s giving NADA… fingers crossed he might in the next episodes, otherwise he isn’t doing much useful

megosaurusrex · 12/12/2022 19:09

The thing I really want them to address are the reports of Meghan being a bully to staff and making Kate cry. Doesn't look like they're going to though.

Penaltyshootoutfan · 12/12/2022 19:11

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 12/12/2022 18:56

I wonder also… sorry.. what the deal was with Netflix and Oprah and how they decided who got to see what and tell what? Like could they be withholding substantial info to tell in a separate series with another platform, or are all their eggs now with Netflix? Basically… did Netflix get their definitive telling of the royal family? Cos a short series of gentle episodes isn’t much for that tbh

It was a multi year deal with a whole range of things they were to produce, including other programs , like kid programs, different content etc. Netlfix is cancelling much if it now and rumour is Netflix are going to drop them after this.

They did an animated series called Pearl and Netflix cancelled it. Apparently if they fail to create hit content Netlfix can cancel the deal and it’s starting to look like they will air this docu series and then quietly kill the deal with them

I Imagine it will be game over with Spotify as well as the podcasts Really aren’t doing well now.

if they loose both streamers , which I think is what’s going to happen I don’t think they have anything much left.

That was addressed on Oprah

megosaurusrex · 12/12/2022 19:14

Oh fair enough, I think I'm the only person who didn't watch the Oprah interview!

Maireas · 12/12/2022 19:14

Harry will soon be doing the rounds promoting "Spare".
I strongly suspect Meghan will write her own biography, then there will probably be a reality show following their lives.

Who cares really. I'm sure they can get a nice spin off. At home with H&M, a very interesting glance into the lifestyle of the once oppressed or whatever, I'm sure they can drag it out ad infinitum.

Apparently it's not even their own home. The documentary was actually filmed at a nearby millionaire's mansion, not their home.

I'm beginning to wonder if there's actually anything in the whole "documentary" which is genuine tbh. The more that comes out, the more it seems like a fake PR exercise - eg/the screenshots used from other events which are being used to imply paparazzi etc mobbing H&M.

I don't really care what this pair want to do, but the lying and deceit really fucks me off.

I think it will be better next week.
Well I hope so.

I think the only new thing I learned was that Meghan has a relationship with her niece.
Everything else we’ve heard before.

I don’t get the whole ‘shouldn’t you hear our story from us’ thing, when none of anything shown so far is new info really.

The new trailer has ‘they lied for William, but won’t tell the truth for me’ so hopefully that’s where they’ll start dropping bombs.

I did watch all three episodes, had it on while WFH, so it was on in the background, so disclaimer, I may have missed some bits.

No idea why he couldn’t keep titles and still run for most offices (as long as he is a citizen) In US they just wouldn’t recognise titles, but in UK I presume they would.
he can’t run for President as he was not born in US, but he could presumably run for mayor, governor, or house seats

but I’m no expert!

Oh they'll have a lot left. I'm sure they'll continually find new ways to stay relevant. The daily mail will follow them to the ends of the earth so I'm sure there's a nice deal to be made for their holiday pics. If all else fails they can always leak a home made vid.

antelopevalley · 12/12/2022 19:17

It makes sense to spin it out for juicy gossip. You don't give away your juiciest bits in early episodes.

It's difficult to live up to all that type though.

The deal with Netflix, the podcasts, everything publicised mercilessly, pay was high but expectations were even higher.

How do you live up to that?
