Can Charles remove Harry's 'prince' title

gottogo23 · 10/12/2022 12:47

I've noticed that the Removal of Titles Bill is going through Parliament and people have been talking a lot about Harry and Meghan losing their titles. Does this just refer to the Duke and Duchess titles, or does this also include stripping Harry of being a prince?

Please link, it's relevant to the discussion

Even Snopes says there is no proof she was talking about a white US Ambassador as is often claimed on MN.

Sorry, I have no idea what you are on about.

Please link to the newspaper article about William having a genius IQ

Honestly there is lots I have read over the years that is not out there. I don't know if it is algorithms or if articles have been scrubbed off the net. But there is stuff I know happened that I can't find by googling.
Although occasionally I see things on twitter that I had tried to find through google. Like that clip of the Queen talking about the man who was like a gorilla.

About the RF? Are you mad? Charles and Di couldn't fart without someone in the press reporting it.

not even going near the gorilla comment

The gorilla comment was made and it supposedly referred to the US Ambassador.

The then Home Secretary told the Queen the next person coming in for an audience is the US Ambassador and he looks like a Gorilla. The Queen told him it wasn’t a very nice thing to say just as the doors opened and apparently the Ambassador who had very long arms and a short body did resemble a gorilla. She then repeated the story to Phillip and Charles.

So, what we are discovering is that H&M's supporters, being called out on their claims of lies on W's behalf can't provide proof.

That their defence of H&M using the titles bestowed by a racist colonial institution are that other people are worse (despite H&M's claims to be more enlightened)

Who are you talking about?
Please do not throw vague accusations around.
I am not a fan.
I do not defend anyone using titles, it is all bollocks. But I will point out hypocrisy of allowing Andrew to keep his.
And I never lie. How dare you say that. I spend a lot of time on here countering lies.

Sigma33 · 12/12/2022 18:10

Sorry, or about any other issue. Because I don't follow so don't know what incident you are referring to?

antelopevalley · 12/12/2022 18:10

@MrsTumblebee Probably made up. Snopes says there is zero evidence it is that white ambassador.

Thanks - hadn't read anything about that

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 12/12/2022 18:13

So the home secretary was a prick and the Queen called him out on it?

I doubt it’s made up. And I certainly won’t believe it’s made up because Snopes (whoever they are) said it is. Just as I wouldn’t watch a video on twitter (not that I use Twitter) without looking for other copies of the video that show it in its entirety,

I can still recall seeing the documentary as a child

jeffgoldblum · 12/12/2022 18:15

@Sigma33 , you won't have , it was on the royal family film from 70s ? , a certain poster kept and keeps bringing back up despite the fact it was hashed over and proven crap years ago. They don't explicitly say it but are implying it was about a poc , as proof of racism from the queen .

antelopevalley · 12/12/2022 18:15

"There's no doubt she did once describe a particular ambassador with that word, but it has not yet been possible to determine who the man in question was, and therefore whether her remarks bore any racial undertones. As such, we are issuing a rating of "Unproven.""

"The responses to the clip made it clear that many observers believed the ambassador in question to have been Black, and therefore that Elizabeth's impressions — and her light-hearted recollection of them — were disturbingly racist."

"On that occasion, the tabloid Daily Express sought to fight back against the claims of racism, asserting that the ambassador in question was actually Walter Annenberg — U.S. ambassador to the U.K. between 1969 and 1974 — who was white.
However, the Express presented no evidence or attribution for the claim that Annenberg was the dignitary labelled a "gorilla" by the queen, and that newspaper's own royal correspondent, Richard Palmer, had already refuted that claim."

Your claim of an article placed by the Palace that William was of genius IQ, which you now can't find. Maybe you have misremembered?

My point is that it doesn't matter whether Andrew keeps his titles (he can disappear into the sewers as far as I am concerned) but H&M have (with reason) pointed out the racism and colonialism the RF is based on. Yet still use those titles. Despite being enlightened to the racism, colonialism, classism, and a whole lot of other prejudices and privileges that are bundled up in a title.

I wonder why that is?

antelopevalley · 12/12/2022 18:16

@MrsTumblebee My mum watched the documentary and said they showed a photo of a black signatory after the Queen spoke.

LuluBlakey1 · 12/12/2022 18:17

I think the way to do it would be to introduce a Letters Patent decreeing that:
a) Only the first in line to the throne will have the title Prince or Princess (an their first child)- so William and George
b) Other children of the first in line to the throne (or monarch) will be given a title at birth of HRH Duke/Duchess until they are 18yrs. At that point a decision will be made about whether or not they wish to be a full-time 'working royal'. If they do they keep the HRH and non-hereditary title (ie for their lifetime, not passed on) and have an allowance from the monarch for their work. .If they do not wish to become a 'working royal'- they forfeit both and become Mr/Ms.

This would dispense with all titles for Harry, Meghan, Andrew, Beatrice and Eugenie and their HRH's.
Moving ahead it allows Ann, Edward and Sophie, William and Kate, Dukes of Kent and Gloucester, Princess Alexandra to keep their titles- or upgrade them to Duke/Duchess. However, Edward and Sophie's children would not have titles.

antelopevalley · 12/12/2022 18:18

@Sigma33 Take away all their titles I do not care. But don't leave Andrew with his. Leaving him with his titles would just be another way of the Royal Family saying they do not care about the allegations he raped a sex trafficked girl.

All I can find is this.

But there was a story earlier that put William in a genius level of IQ at the time he was leaving school.

That assesses him as "quite bright" which is nice but not exactly genius level.

I've always understood that Prince Philip was very clever, I did a tour of Dartmouth and they certainly seem to think he was. I think I read that the uncle who was his guardian when he came to England was an inventor and liked engineering and Philip was good at that sort of thing as well. If I remember correctly he designed and built an air conditioning system for his navy quarters.

I suppose there is the question of how we assess intelligence, I mean some very clever people are hopeless at some fairly normal life skills.

JustLyra · 12/12/2022 18:22

If there was ever any claim that William was a genius it would be in the Daily mail in every single article about him.

it would be the royal equivalent of house prices appearing irrelevantly in articles.

@MrsTumblebee My mum watched the documentary and said they showed a photo of a black signatory after the Queen spoke.

I can see some options here:
QEII made a racist comment on camera

  • QEII made a racist comment without realising she was on camera
  • QEII made the comment about a white signatory, which was edited to imply there was a black signatory
  • Your mother's memory was incorrect about what she saw
  • your memory was incorrect about what she saw
antelopevalley · 12/12/2022 18:24

@jeffgoldblum The proof was that Tumbletree watched it. Why is my mum less reliable than her? Or are you also going to criticise her?

@Sigma33 Have you read the Snopes article I posted?
