It's landed - 3 episodes with what I assume is 3 next week.

You have to understand, as a race based society EVERYTHING in America is about race....“the first black Vice President”, the “first black mayor of Kansas” etc etc, these are major stories there. They are obsessed with race. In contrast, Rishi Sunak being the “first Asian British PM” barely got a mention in the U.K.

Growing up in that race based environment Americans see everything through the lens of race, and they carry that everywhere. It’s a cultural clash.

So I guess whoever said this is for an American audience is spot on. They (the editors I mean) are painting the UK as the enemy.
Certain parts of the US left wing media love to kick the UK, I'm thinking the NY Times. I really think they should look in their back yard first before throwing allegations at the UK regarding racism.

I also agree with whoever said it was probably re-edited after the Queen's death to disperse some of the blame away from her.

Also, just wanted to pick up on something from earlier in the thread - OP you said they were recording themselves as far back as early 2020? So they much have known they were going to do an exposé of sorts as far back as that.

Footage now about Harry and drugs while at Eton

clyspa · 08/12/2022 11:57

Harry says not all stories false but some exaggeration and rehashing

A little like this episode

OP posts:
bakalava · 08/12/2022 11:58

The thing is that their relationship is so short and their time in the UK as a married couple even shorter before the sudden end. Six episodes - really? Or are the last two episodes going to be about their super heroism?

Maireas · 08/12/2022 11:58

I'm surprised that Doria is giving an interview after all this time.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 11:59

He's saying hard to balance position in this family and being chased through red light or on foot - happened 30-40 times when young

F4chrissakes · 08/12/2022 12:00

I don't wish anyone ill, but somehow I have a feeling this is all going to end in tears. And when it does, with there be more Netflix revelations?
"I should have LTB". "My ex wife is a narcissistic nightmare". Maybe the kids could get in on it. "I grew up in the shadow of Granny Diana".
"My Dad hates the royals but named me after his Granny, and it's messed with my head".

RosettaStormer · 08/12/2022 12:02

Serenster · 08/12/2022 11:01

Yes, I thought that too, @Beees . They didn’t actually want to protect their children from media attention, they just wanted to ensure that there was maximum commercial gain for their parents when they did exploit them.

I’ve always thought that. Doesn’t surprise me.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 12:02

Focus on the time he lashed out when coming out of a nightclub

He says he was trying to manage loss of his mum without much support, help or guidance

I'd be interested to hear the other side on that - he was just left? No help from family (Spencer as well as RF) school, William?

What was Oprah for then?

And does the younger generation really care about a middle aged couple with no talents or relevance other than fading royal connections?

Doesn't seem to stop the younger generation watching the Kardashians, no talent, no relevance and not even royal connections.

Maireas · 08/12/2022 11:58

I'm surprised that Doria is giving an interview after all this time.

She adds gravitas to it, because the press coverage hurt her too and she's finally getting her say. Watching the doc I could totally see where PH and MM are coming from when they complained about the rabid and racially motivated press coverage after their relationship was revealed. Headline after headline – shown on the doc – gleefully baiting that she was straight out of Compton, that her mother lived in a gang neighbourhood, her house was shabby and shot up, etc. Those reports were false and highly offensive and Doria was hurt by them.

😂

It's frustrating how his dodgy past, including racists language, is just glossed over or excused. So he's allowed to move on and be redeemed. And is now pontificating to everyone else.
Whereas other people who have made inappropriate comments towards them (Archie's skin colour) are pegged as racists monsters and that's that.

Nobody else is allowed to move on from wronging them it seems.

Maireas · 08/12/2022 12:06

I remember the ludicrous Rachel Johnson Compton headlines, but don't remember the others. Mind, I wasn't really reading the Sun or whatever so I just saw the positive stuff.

ArcaneWireless · 08/12/2022 12:07

I just don't know why they didn't take up QE2's offer of a low key wedding, living somewhere privately, her carrying on with her career.

I don’t know either maireas. It would have been a beautiful solution and a pathway to happiness I reckon.

I still think that these two are not as happy as they make on. Happy people don’t like being enveloped in misery and they don’t spread it either.

And they have the means to grab happy with both hands and run with it.

I fear that they will come to find they have missed the mark. And their audience will not be as captured as they think.

Maireas · 08/12/2022 12:07

You're right @Farmageddon . He's allowed to move on from racism, others aren't.

FFS - so according to him everything he does wrong is because of losing his mum. Is he ever going to stop using that as an excuse? It's getting ridiculous now.

What about William, who also lost his mother, he doesn't go around blaming everything on that.

WeWereInParis · 08/12/2022 12:10

Also, just wanted to pick up on something from earlier in the thread - OP you said they were recording themselves as far back as early 2020? So they much have known they were going to do an exposé of sorts as far back as that.

They we’re doing little video diary things yeah. They say that a friend recommended that they record what is happening to them.

SammyScrounge · 08/12/2022 12:11

I have only seen the trailer released this morning but it was enough to reduce me to hysterics. She is one hammy actress. To elicit sympathy and agreement, she appears with wet hair wrapped in a towel and squeaks plaintively in her best little girl voice 'they are trying to destroy us'

She's in her forties (not 40 allegedly). She's too old to play the hurt little girl. I laughed and laughed.

DiDonk · 08/12/2022 12:12

I expect at some time in the near future she'll chuck him then they can both do individual poor-me documentaries about it to keep the pot boiling.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 12:12

Now we are branching off to the time he spent in Africa / it feels clear he is saying these issues drive him to want out of the U.K. / which we can understand I think?

Prince of Lesotho talking about trying to help Harry

He's very much his mother - they gave him a local name that means warrior as he is warrior in sprint and character

He could live, breath and grow there (Harry's words)

Lots of footage in various places in Africa - he loves Africa etc

I think many people thought even before MM that he should go and live there and do conservation etc right?

Is this also some foreshadowing that he is not racist but RF is (though assume RF funded his time in Africa?)

Not however taking away from his good work there and his charity with the Prince of Lesotho

OP posts:
WeWereInParis · 08/12/2022 12:12

The second episode (I’m only halfway through) focuses a lot on Meghan’s childhood but they do talk about the racism in the media after the relationship was public. Harry comments that before he met her he thought he understood racism, unconscious bias etc but he’s learnt more from her and her treatment, and how he wants to be able to tell his mixed race children that he stood up against racism.
His own racist language and comments aren’t mentioned at all.

Janieread · 08/12/2022 12:12

I wonder how he's going to cope when she leaves him.

Do the younger generation watch the Kardashians?

I thought they were a bit last decade.

And the Kardashians are at least fun, have a close family, and aren't constantly complaining about their terrible lot in life. What do these two have to offer?

bakalava · 08/12/2022 12:13

They had the outline of their media deals in place for the next few years before they left for Canada.
A relationship played out for the cameras in the early years when you should be feeling the most connected to each other and wishing to keep as much as you can private - does not sound promising or convincing to me.

Freedomfromguilt · 08/12/2022 12:15

I don't think they'll ever divorce because that would mean that this isn't the greatest, purest love story ever!!!
I don't think that the Duke and Duchess of Windsor had a wonderful marriage but to admit that she annoyed him by picking her nose or that he annoyed her by squeezing the toothpaste from the middle would have made them both look silly after the fallout of leaving the royal family.
These two are stuck together for eternity, desperately trying to convince themselves and the rest of the world that they are in love and that it was worth it.
