It's landed - 3 episodes with what I assume is 3 next week.

You can't really see the kids faces to be fair in all the pics - I don't feel they are marching their kids out in front of cameras at all

It's more like the slow release from Kate of a pic on their birthdays except these are also showing where they live and what they are doing a bit more

It's fine but after so little quite surprising

I've got it on while I work so attention is limited

My feeling is that they love each other very much, and Harry is a very decent person. He loves her a lot, and I respect that.

They don't show their children's faces, it is just shots from behind.

he's also clearly over identifying with his Mother; lots of unresolved trauma from
her death. Often when children lose parents at the age H was when Diana died, they put the departed parent on a pedestal and harbour resentment towards surviving parent

Or he's exploiting her memory because he perceives that's the way to get support and sympathy.

Maireas · 08/12/2022 11:17

Serenster · 08/12/2022 11:01

Yes, I thought that too, @Beees . They didn’t actually want to protect their children from media attention, they just wanted to ensure that there was maximum commercial gain for their parents when they did exploit them.

I agree. They certainly feature plenty on this.

WeWereInParis · 08/12/2022 11:17

I've watched the first episode and a couple of bits did make me laugh.
After their first date, Meghan asked Harry if he wanted to go for dinner and Harry thought this was "very forward and very American".
And according to one of the talking heads, it's hard for Brits to not see the RF as part of their extended family. I don't know anyone who thinks like that!

There was also a bit of a dig where Harry said that the men in the RF married women who fitted the mould, rather than who they were "destined" for. Which I thought was a bit rude because he's talking about multiple men (so not just Charles marrying Diana) and it comes across as a dig at Kate I think, even if it wasn't meant that way.

No, you definitely see their faces.

I didn't mean they were being marched an paraded in front of cameras but it does seem they are using them to gain more views and merching them out to increase their revenue from the show.

They didn't need to include any images at all of the children surely?

clyspa · 08/12/2022 11:20

He's saying it wasn't fair and mum did her best. Now footage while skiing of them and Diana asking guy to stop taking pics - guy says yes ma'am sorry but could I have just one pic? She says look no, we've been followed all day etc

Just finished it, it's really stylized and very pretty to look at. I think they both come across well and no great surprises so far. Nothing so far to disrespect any other members of the Royal Family.

I think members of the media who have spent months frothing at the mouth about this will be disappointed that it's more an extended fluff piece so far and nothing especially to take offence to.

notangelinajolie · 08/12/2022 11:22

So, I’m half way through episode 2 and I’m finding it incredibly dull. And what’s with the dramatic music? I genuinely think Netflix had to put it in to try and make what they are saying sound remotely interesting.

It’s just Harry droning on in monotone and Meghan butting in an overly animated way.

6 whole episodes of them talking about themselves is too much to bear. I think I’ll switch off and wait for the clips. Happy to let the Royal experts wade through this to find the good bits (if there are any).

hamstersarse · 08/12/2022 11:23

Episode 1 was quite boring. You'd have to really dig into it to come up with some awful intentions with anything that was said - very bland.

I don't even really dislike her. I find her a bit cringe but nothing more than that. I believe it must have been awful for her with all that was said about her - really, who could cope with that forever?

clyspa · 08/12/2022 11:23

Now he's moved onto panorama

She had this lived experience and was compelled to talk about it.

He acknowledges she was deceived into giving it but told the truth

Shoeing bits of the interview about how she feels about the media

Just wondering if you are seeing the childrens faces.

Up thread hamsterarse said the kids faces weren’t being shown -photographed from behind?

hamstersarse · 08/12/2022 11:25

@Morestrangethings

I haven't been paying full attention but I don't think there were direct shots of children's faces other than the one they had released of Archie already (is that his name?)

clyspa · 08/12/2022 11:26

She was harassed with dad but got worse after separation

Agree with others so far so all already familiar - this is about telling a story for a younger generation / and s foreign one

My friend said some of the pics were showing their faces.

What was Oprah for then?

And does the younger generation really care about a middle aged couple with no talents or relevance other than fading royal connections?

clyspa · 08/12/2022 11:28

He's suggesting after divorce she was exposed but I feel he means left to it by the institution

I've just finished watching and found it quite fascinating in terms of how the focus is very much on the media and historic British colonialism being the biggest source of the issues that ultimately drove them out of the Firm. I can't help but think it's had a hasty edit since the Queen's death. I think both of them came across as sincere and they really are properly besotted with one another.

My other takeaway is that paparazzi truly are scum.

She was offered royal protection officers but turned them down.

How is this the fault of the 'institution'?

All 3 episodes or just the first?

I would expect the beginning to be fairly light as it sets up the characters and then the racism allegations to come as the climax of the series. Just like any other standard story arc.

ArcaneWireless · 08/12/2022 11:31

He's saying it wasn't fair

No. It probably wasn’t. But he was happy enough to sook up the nice bits. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I read the quote and imagine him going all Violet Elizabeth on my arse.

themessygarden · 08/12/2022 11:32

So Archie doesn't have red hair after all. Wonder if Lilibeth's was also photoshopped in the image they released earlier this year.

clyspa · 08/12/2022 11:32

He's touched on women having to endure the press marrying in - how can he find someone willing and capable

He's addressing the g/friend reluctant to marry him - footage of Chelsey and Cressida / how they didn't want this

When he met 'M' (his word) he was terrified of her being driven away

So - why not take up the queens suggestion they take a year living somewhere if she keeps acting?
