The American Tour... this isn't going to go well is it?

I think that in the first instance planning some sort of hearts and minds land grab over the Sussexes is foolish when Meghan is herself American and the Sussexes are based there. Why not leave well alone and throw a bells and whistles diplomatic smorgasbord for the president (or the next one, frankly, if Biden carks it) at the next opportunity. Or go to Canada, where you'd get loads of 10 years later photo compares and you are (or will be) actually the head of state there.
Also why Boston? If anything it's the anti UK monarchy state historically and Bostonians are not as (platonically) romantically taken than, say, (sweeping generalisation alert!) Midwesterners by the Royal Family.

I'm sure it's to flood the papers before Harry's "poor me" autobio comes out but surely there must be a premise on which they're going?

And now they have their 'touch down' moment marred by more racism accusations (quite rightly, what that lady in waiting said and how she behaved was absolutely appalling).

Difficult to see how they can bring this back round tbh.

What everyone else think?

Having now spun the organisation off as an independent body from his own Royal Foundation, William remains the President of the Earthshot organisation. In the same way that Harry is the Patron of the Invictus Games Foundation.

Looks like they're pretty well received in Boston.
Not everyone will appreciate the visit, but not everyone needs to.
To pretend they're not warmly received overall is being disingenuous.

They were in Bradford a couple of years ago . KC was there a few weeks ago.

It is what I predicted before the tour, Carefully filmed footage of a tiny crowd filmed in such a way to make it appear as if more people are there.
No one is saying they have no fans. There will always be people who will turn out to meet any celebrity. That is different from being warmly received.
A Boston Councillor tweeted complaining about traffic closures and saying he did not even know they were there until the traffic closures. He also said the City have no say in their itinerary or timings.

Do you have any links about the visit a few weeks ago? I can't find anything about that.

Again, you're being disingenuous, it never claimed to be carefully filmed footage. It was filmed by the woman who's channel that is.
If you check the footage on BBC you can see the crowd from a different angle. It's fairly substantial.

They're there to boost awareness of climate issues. Meeting the President later today will do that and solidify links between the 2 nations. Definitely what Britain needs right now.

That’s not carefully filmed footage! It’s a YouTuber filming on her mobile!

Ah but you see, for Sussex Squad members there is always an excuse and a negative spin to put on anything about PPOW.

They say: no one is Boston is bothered about them and are ignoring them or booing them.
You post a link to a short clip of a warmly received spontaneous walkabout with a small but enthusiastic crowd.
They say: that's fake news!

It's like playing chess with a pigeon.

antelopevalley · 02/12/2022 11:17

@nettie434 From what you say it sounds then like William does not really have anything to do with Earthshot except appear at a few events? Is that right?

I did get the impression that Earthshot is trying to be more international. It's definitely an independent charity now. I guess that's a more sustainable model. I'm no expert though!

Bostonians’ Take on the Royals’ Whirlwind Visit? Whatevah.

As breathless online commentary tracked the royal couple’s every move during their visit, swaths of their host city remained unimpressed.

They travelled by commercial plane and were chatting to fellow passengers .
Megan on the other hand travelled by private jet to her chat in Indianapolis.

who was asking about Meghan? why are you being so petty with your whataboutery?

LadyKenya · 02/12/2022 19:02

To be honest I could not get excited either about W&K visiting my home town.

Serenster · 02/12/2022 19:04

There were a fair few people who turned out in Harvard to literally catch a glimpse of Kate walking from her car into a building. (Video from a current research intern at Harvard, who was there).

Ohnonevermind · 02/12/2022 19:13

ive seen photos of them meeting Caroline a Kennedy Schlossberg and her very handsome son, and they’ve just met the Biden’s so they’ve hardly been snubbed like one poster said.

Ohnonevermind · 02/12/2022 19:16

I know it’s not the same as being handed an award by Alec Baldwin but the POW’s will have to bear it as best they can

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/12/2022 19:27

I don’t know why they never visit local places like Bradford, Luton, Hull, etc

Hate to disappoint you couscous, but ...

Nothing about Hull though, but never mind; now you've been good enough to pick them up on it I'm sure they'll make it their next priority

mdinbc · 02/12/2022 19:46

I tend to think it is the British press doing their best to find fault or scandal. It is almost a non-event here (Canada), and not top headlines on the news or print.

onlylarkin · 02/12/2022 23:28

I did manage to find a photo of Catherine in her rented green dress with Diana's emerald choker. She looks fantastic!

Her changed make up look really made an impact.

Were they not in Scarborough recently ? Is that not near Hull ? Apologies if my geography is crap.
